You look so satisfied through the whole lap. A dream came true!
congratulations. you have earned it.
We can all appreciate Misha's face and how he savored every turn.
I don't typically buy merch but that is a really awesome design and even better (what looks to be) a quality product
@Stephen Garemogg as a caterham driver i can't support this DoFo-thing of course ;-p
We can all learn from Walter Rõhrl not just driving but how to be, legend is an often thrown around name, this is what real legends look like 👍
Lebensjahr. Also schweige!
@IKnowIt Genau das! Der Mann verdient Respekt! aber ich glaube nicht, dass er unsere Nachrichten lesen wird 🤣
True is it selfish of me to wish that Sabine was here to participate as well?
It's incredible, Walter moves this Porsche as if it were a slow delivery van delivering parts. You'd think he was driving to the bakery to get his rolls. Every steering angle is perfect, no corrections, no wild turning of the steering wheel. With a stoic calmness he moves the Porsche towards the limit, I understand why Micha could close his eyes and just feel the perfect flow of the ideal line. At 77, Walter remains at a world-class level. Simply unbelievable. Thanks for sharing🙏.
Yea the flow was insanely how smooth and precisely he changed gears let it roll in -high get low out to High and shift im optimum rpm.
U saw how he changed always high gears at 5600-8/9000 and lower gears as 7500-5000 he knows how a Porsche engine works as a test driver for Porsche it self he feels all also just on the sound if u saw his expressions
@Löx Epyou... Shift always on Sound lol. You think you have time to watch the RPM Meter in a Race?? I see.. You either never driven a Car or just Automatics lol. Its more interesting to see how he can't keep his left foot quiet. He is so used to driving old Manual Cars.
@Aliver87 I know how he works with pedals. And RPM is on sound of the engine. U don't need to see rpm I can drive and I was always able to listen. That's why my drive test was shorter and faster as usually
I am the same age as Walter and I know that my driving reflexes would not allow me to drive like he did here, whatever my skill level. He was driving using his brain's "habits" memory where all of his years of rallying are stored, ready for recall without "thinking". A great demonstration of how years of experience can carry you well into old age.
It did feel that Walter was partly on auto-pilot. But this was only possible with years and years of blood, sweat and tears. Impressive.
@ianoverseas Exactly as you say. We all use "autopilot" every day . Our incredible brain has evolved to do this as it frees up much processing power to devote to new situations. (This is very much a layman's description which I learnt from my therapist while in hospital after suffering a brain injury myself)
The simple feat of surviving the physical assault of that car at his age is staggeringly impressive
At a point, driving fast just becomes instinct especially if racing is your profession.
it's also because he was a porsche lead development driver for ages, the cars react to how he helped make them become, in another car it could be more problematic, but those ones probably feel harmonious to him
He is absurdly smooth driving, the whole thing looked so under control is hard to describe.
Yeah he use to drive those pos understeering audis :D prob helps to drive real racing car.
Smooth indeed.
I loved the short shift at 4.15.
Pure class
Smoothest driving I’ve seen on this channel on the Ring.
This was the smoothest lap ever on this track, and yet a 7:20 one. Absolutely staggering.
You must drive smooth when you drive fast, you are on the limit and any rough movements can make you loose the grip, you learn that if you been driving in snow for years
@Basuki Sugitoespecially when switching lanes. Gentle and steady, jerking over will send your butt into a skid or spin from the built up snow in between lanes. Smooth throttle and gentle brakes too
@Deetroiter
No brakes.
@Basuki Sugitothis is röhrl"s credo: he never works against the car or the road. He composes them together as one.
Always was a smooth driver with attention to detail. When with Opel (81 and 82 world title) he was always clean, avoiding any lost time sideways. But one of his best feat is how he won San Remo 1985 with a beast like the Quattro S1. He never liked Finland because the jumps, but what people said that Loeb was pioneer, Rhorl already has done it near 30 years before. Rhorl was the pioneer of the "apex drive", clean like no other especially with the Ascona 400 and Lancia 037. With the Gr. B he showed something else and why he won Monte with so many different cars / manufacturers!! That's what makes a GOAT on WRC. Be able to win in different cars from different eras.
I absolutely LOVE that he's still just using his right foot, the way his left foot twitches for a clutch, I swear while he's braking you can see him wanting to help toe. He's absolutely on muscle memory what an absolute legend. It is a bit sad to hear him talk about the "Fire" not being there like it used to.
@John Wood because old school drivers didn't have only 2 pedals
Walter still tracking time with his wrist watch is just legendary!
I thought he had an app in his iphone that told his apple watch the lap time
@Lethabo Mthimkulu hahaha do you really think walter has an apple watch, he is way to oldschool for that
Yea I love that, everytime I see him doing a lap or a rally stage it's always this wrist watch. Habits don't change even after 40 years.
@MatixOk Exactly, why changing something that still works best for you
@nick eicat least a Tag Heuer😂
I love this video. The twitches of his left foot still reaching for the clutch pedal that isnt there. Misha's smile, just pure bliss taking it all in. The calmness of it all at 230kmh just absolutely amazing.
Walter seems to be very polite, private person, glad to see him here.
Such a calm and collected person this Mr. Röhrl. Still so enjoyable to watch him drive at this age. Very impressive.
I love that, even at his age, he is still timing his laps.
watching misha closing his eyes....that gave me a unique feeling, what an honour for all of us.
Misha never looked happier and clam like this.
this is what is all about
seems like he was feeling sick, no? being a passenger is completely different from driving
Man Misha looking like a happy kid going to the luna park, while Walter was 100% into it, so much he was making all sort of weird faces 🤣
With the tongue going like trying to thread a needle. Very therapeutic.
Or when he closed his eyes and just enjoyed the moment
Don't forget he's almost 80 years old, by then your reflexes are completely ruined, it's a tremendous effort from Walter to manage the lap at this speed, hence the weird faces from time to time. Saying he enjoys and prefers a twisty open road more says it al, being a driver of his calibre. We all get old unfortunately.
Yet his lines were superb, not pushing it of course, but beautiful lines all over, i wish at 80 i could still drive a car@SuperWhiteBarry
I thought he was dying or were already dead at times
What an honour it must be to ride alongside this Legend! Misha looks happy as a kid in the candy store! Amazing to see Walter Röhrl "at work" at his age!
This man will always be a Legend to me. You can see that he is getting older like we all do, but how smooth he still moves the GT3RS around the track is amazing. My greatest respect to him and Thank you very much for the video.
Two living legends, skils, talents..., togheter: RESPECT!
The entire lap, nothing was said, yet everything was spoken. That was a very powerful moment. Love the channel Misha!
for an old boy he still handles that car great and is still as sharp as a razor much respect to you both from England
What a Legend! ❤
"I won't put on a helmet for anything over 8 minutes on the Nordschleife!"
- Walter Röhrl
Not even with a motorbike...
I missed that part. When did he say that?
@Thebeastfromnorth75This was long ago, not in this video!
77 😮
Wow, 10+ years ago 8 minutes was very challenging for a supercar, nowadays they are simply built for this track
Simply the best racecar driver ever. The precision is insane. It never looks like a fast lap with him, cause it's so calm, but it's very fast indeed.
Walter is an international treasure. Aside from being a certified legend the man is such an inspiration to never give up your passions at any age. Truly incredible how relaxed he and the car are while for most of us it would be at the absolute ragged limit.
Cet homme est vraiment dans son élément compte tenu de son âge, c'est vraiment un passionné, je n'aurai même pas peur avec lui ...bravo pour cette belle maîtrise 👍👍
Incredible that he can even physically do what we just watched him do effortlessly, beautiful thing
So cool. Look at Walters eyes. He’s living the life 😎
Misha looks like hes in complete zen the entire lap
Tbh for having a ride with a good driver vs one with... less experience, its easy to get comfortable with a skilled driver. Inputs are smoother, you feel the car reacting and being perfectly fine with the inputs. A more novice driver upsets the car, it also makes me feel nauseous. Tbh it looks like i could sleep on that lap, so smooth, i can only admire the talent involved.
@PaulChoixI was thinking the whole time,
What a smooth ride,
Not even pushing it,
That dude is a true gentleman,
77 respect that sharp mind.
Some say that seniors are bad drivers, and I say that the seniors that can't drive were always bad drivers. This man only furthers by belief. Legendary driver!
Looks like a Wii avatar
In Germany we say: „Er grinst wie ein Honigkuchenpferd!“
His streering control was so smooth!!! Smooth lines, no jerking the wheel, just all smooth transitional direction changes. Magical!!
oh my God.
The look on his face like he is facing death.
A million years old.
Yet his movement on the wheel is smooth and minimal, his lines perfect, the car flows through the corners like honey and the talent that gave him his success is still there for all to see.
Unbelievable.
What a legend! Still got it at 77 years young! 👏👏
He admits he is getting old, taking it a little more relaxed, but can we appreciate the race line he took. Absolutely mindblowing 👏😊
What a great video Misha and especially the end. You didn't said to much and let him talk, that was very respectfull 👌 What a legend 💪
From the first corner I knew he was not pushing it to the limit. It felt so calming to see him driving around the track. It felt like pure magic to me. His words only confirmed that feeling.
Yeah seemed like a leisurely cruise for him
@dAbaPEsTA123 a 7min20s btg cruise ;)
Felt like a 6-7, 10 is when he's giving it everything. Hes just going through the motions and enjoying it
Remember is half a day of driving person after person around and showing the car off which most know to be the best. They can't have the car overheating, faults etc. and probably have limited tires plus time.
Still amazing I would just like to still in a car with him.
The fact that he still got a 7:20 at the pace he was going is still crazy. I mean, it literally looked like he was chilling. If you pay close attention to how smooth his inputs are, you can see he literally points and shoots the car with no understeer or oversteer. The throttle inputs looked so smooth. Misha was literally chilling in the seat smiling and even closed his eyes lol probably because how relaxing that drive looked. You can definitely tell he has so many laps around the ring
Diese Ruhe und Präzision ist einfach, Walter Röhrl!
What a nice chap. Scarey quick at 77 years old, but never out of shape. What an amazing man and driver.
What an honor.. Walter will always be one of the truest souls in Motorsport.
This man is 76 years old and is as relaxed while driving as if he just turned 26!
His driving is so smooth. I think I heard no single tire squeal through the entire lap.
He starts his Chronograph under the Bridge like a Gentleman. A Legend. Great Video!
And looks at it at the end of the lap at the gantry. Did not even notice it. What a LEGEND.
@Misha Charoudin That's what you get when driving with a legend: a free track ahead of you
How often does that happen ?
@Johan Van Hoof .....never????
Can you tell what watch he is wearing?
@Craig Groves he often was seen with a Hacher Watch. He is/was also Brand ambassador, with a pikes peak Edition
Misha is always looking so genuinely happy, as if he asked his mum to go to McDonalds and she agreed. Love it :D
Walter is such an awesome person and unbelievable driver 🤩🥳👏 it seems like he could push way more but still would be 'chilled' 😅 his driving looks so smooth 👍
So keep on enjoying the driving Walter 😉🤩👍👏
He’s foot work is amazing. Looking at how he moves he’s left leg in each turn and how he backs it out 👌🏼👌🏼 incredible.
i find it heartwarming how Mr. Röhrl occasionally looks for the clutch pedal with his left foot every now and again. also, Misha looks like the happiest kid on the planet
Misha lookin like a happy school boy being driven to school by grand dad, only grand dad is an absolute legend and drives faster and safer than most drivers we see here on YT so happy for you, and this was so cool to watch.
Smiles like a “Honigkuchenpferd“ (german for Honeycakehorse). Makes me laugh seeing hime smile like that, in a good way.
In the first 5 seconds of the video he looks bored and distracted. What's up with that?
He explains it in the end. The age makes the fire go away on track.
@frasertones If he would have this car back in Group-B era he would drive absolutely mentally bonkers thru the crowds of people like he did with Audi..
I love how Walter casually lifts for a split second mid corner and as soon as the nose of the cars tracks the apex again he just floors it :)
I watched Walter Röhrl drive his former works Porsche 911SC in the 2011 Targa Tasmania, and he was unbelievable for the first two days before history repeated and he broke a driveshaft. Even at his age, his technique and competitiveness was amazing
Seguir pilotando lo mantiene de alguna manera joven. Sus reflejos, su musculatura. Un pilotazo que merece simplemente respeto. Una leyenda!!!
What a Legend. When I saw the Audi S1 rally video on CZcams back in the day I was shocked by his driving skills. After all these years he still has a fire 🔥
Walter driving at 7/10th is still faster than most of us will ever be able to drive. He still got it!
Walter is an absolute icon, for someone born within the last 23 years watching back old footage from his Group B days is just mind blowing as to where cars were in terms of power and also their safety systems (Or borderline lack there of) He is an absolute class act and a gem of Motorsport, so glad he's still getting behind the wheel and if push came to shove would still probably school most of the other drivers out on track
very interesting way to say that you're 23 years old, lol
They had safety systems back then. They called them seat belts.
@inaNis Yeah wasn't worded in the most efficient way lmao
@sugoruyo Thanks Sherlock, hence the "Borderline lack there of" statement
My hero since watching as a kid Group B, later watching him in IMSA and DTM - including legendary final race with Audi V8 in the rain (one can imagine)
What an absolute master Walter Röhrl is. Such a smooth driving style. Unfazed confident and still has his reactions. LEGEND.
Remember him battling in group B back in the day. Some of the best driving you will ever see. Never forget those days.
Really great great video with a legend, and Walter too;) It was nice to hear him talk about what he likes to do now. I am 66, quite a bit younger than Walter but no longer have the fire to want to go fast on a track. I did that on motorcycles for 10 years and that was great. Now just the occasional quick drive on back roads in my 911 is plenty enough! BTW Misha you looked blissful!
Even though Walter Röhrl is such a successful legend, he still seems so down to earth! Just like Stucki! You could see how much you enjoyed this round Misha on your face at every second! Great action from Bilstein for making your dream come true! I have NEVER seen a passenger on the racetrack who looked so happy but at the same time so grateful & awestruck! Congratulations on achieving something like this with your company!✌️
The way he looks like this is a regular Sunday cruise for him is cracking me up. Another great video Misha. Thank you!! Also great change to see you in the passenger seat for once just taking in the moment.
Closing your eyes and trusting the legend himself. Sometimes we look at old people and forget what they have accomplished in their lifetime. This man is probably one of the most talented racing drivers to ever exist. And he keeps rocking at 77. Amazin video, thank you.
Thank you Misha for just leaving the chat out. Magic.
Probably? Probably? 😕
Not probably; he is.! 😆😂
I know he felt he wasn't anywhere near his limit but watching his speed but with such smooth undramatic, Zen like steering input was quite amazing! A proper legend 👌🏻
My gawd. This man is a legend, literally, and also for this epic run at his age. "Impressive" falls short of describing this.
Er ist im gesamten Rennsport der Champion er wäre auch in der Formel 1 die 1 geworden darauf kannst Du Wetten 😊
Man's 77 years old and still driving better than most people, goes to show how much of a legend he is.
Hard to say if Misha is happy, scared, terrified or impressed.. 😂
AMAZING!!! Thank you Misha and Mr. Rohrl for everything you’ve done for Motorsport!
Absolutely incredible, and it looks like he did a 7:27 BTG. If that is him driving the ring at 76 years old, I'd have loved to see him there back in his racing days. He is 3 years older than I, and I haven't raced in almost 30 years and I know that I have nowhere near the reflexes I had in the past, yet he seems to be almost super-human. What a treat to watch this video.
My father is 5 years older than him, and he still doesn't drive slow, but his coordination is all over the place. Age _will_ get you. That Walter can still do this now is absolutely amazing.
I dont think about this while watching the video. But this is very true. His reflexes are amazing. I am still watching but amazed and had to see the comments
and he was short shifting a lot
@Joe Marano He was short shifting, and he was going into corners slowly enough that he was able to get deep into the throttle well before most apexes. He was taking it easy. Still he did a 7:27.
@Fantabulous Snuffaluffagus -- At 73 I still only own sports cars with manual transmissions, and I'd say that in the last 5 years I've missed more shifts than I did in my first 53 years of driving. I've even killed the car at stop lights a couple of times and never did that before. I guess age gets us all at some point, although Walter's "point" seems to be much higher than mine.
This makes me feel happy ..when you have driving in your blood it doesn't dissapear in the golden years .. i hope to have a chance to put some big wheels on this fabulous track
Obviously you enjoyed that round very much. Walter Röhrl is such a legend and great, as well as a humble, sportsman. Many greetings from Frankfurt!
Ok. One is so incredibly relaxed and the other just enjoys being driven by a legend. Beautiful to look at. 🙂
80's Rally as a teen I followed Walter in the Audi's and man did he make them Dance, Acropolis Rally was where he really put on a show and I still have footage I watch from time to time so for me although a treat watching a tarmac lap of the ring it is a bit anticlimactic even though its obvious Walter still has "It" :-)
Walter Rõhrl is a living Legend
Walter is and remains the icon of motorsport in Germany, if not the world. He is simply a down-to-earth guy. How I would love to take a lap around the ring with him. Misha I completely understand you saying it was a dream. This video reminded me a lot of the laps I was allowed to do in the taxi with Sabine. Thank you for always managing to bring back joyful experiences of the ring that are often forgotten.
In memory of Sabine Schmitz “Queen of the Nordschleife”
You can calmly skip the "if" about icon in the world. I'm not German.
I feel it a privilege just to have been able to follow Walter Röhrl on television during his prime (whenever that is - seems to be still ongoing),
I've met more known race drivers (or at least known within the racing community) during my visits at Die Schleife through decades of Touristenfahrten, but meeting Dr. Röhrl in person would most probably leave me completely speechless and get completely stuck in the questions that I had otherwise collected for him over 40 years.
But it is really lucky that we have YT today, who since the beginning has meant that I have gotten to know him better as a person. His humble approach to everything and self-effacing personality and always matter-of-fact approach to things.
A man in complete mental balance. A man in complete control. Who takes things step by step.
And a person who you both feel could be your closest friend and at the same time on a completely different planet, to which you never get a ticket yourself. And know it with a completely settled feeling.
I would have done anything for some laps with Sabine.
The legend still got in him, what a man. ❤
Very clean lap! Not in search of the lowest time, but on the purest driving. This guy is a living legend and still fast.
Thanks Walter Röhrl and Misha!
Misha, in total bliss. Love this.
Amazing Misha, thank you so much for documenting a legend. Incredible performance at his age, yet he says he did not push the limits. Just look at his neck stiffness when turning or breaking. I wish everyone will age healthy like this. This was one of the greatest videos of you even if I did not watch Walter Röhrl myself but I learned him from my dad.
Walter looks fanatical on lines and precision. A masterclass.
I have no words for people like him, just someone who truely is humble, extremely skilled, amd seems ro be an amazing person. Good to see he is still going at it despite his age. I think for all of us car enthusiasts he truely is a role model of what we should be.
Walter and Motoharu seem to be alike both with their driving and how they are as persons 🍻
He's such a calm/wise guy... What a role model. Being 77 and thinking 7:20 is easy😂 Unbelievable.
That was really good to watch… a master class on how it’s done. Very happy to say I’m here this weekend for the racing.
Omg, smooth, flat to the boards and composed throughout the whole lap. Early rally footage of Mr Rorhl is also an eye opener. Seriously my driving hero one place behind Senna. A giant !! Thanks Mish
What a privilege it must be Misha, to be a passenger in a 992 GT3 RS being driven by Mr Röhl at the Nürburgring. Thank you for giving us the privilege to enjoy it too. As always, a pleasure watching your videos!
The legend that tamed the S1. Met Walter as a kid, one of the nicest people I've ever met.
The fact he raced group B says everything you need to know about this legend.
I loved the smooth lines and the gradual but early on the gas. He's a legend for a reason
This was really heartwarming.. The previous generation just enjoying the time together with the current generation.. Great content 🙏
Absolutely beautiful video! And the words of the wise guy were really charming! For me this was one of the best videos on the channel! Something different. Fantastic experience, Misha! 👍🙂
This made my heart so warm. Thanks Misha for inspiring me and all of us. One day we’ll be on the track together!!
Zen lap of the Nürburgring with Walter and Misha 🧘😂 Loved every minute! This is what it's all about! 👌 4.0L flat six mated to PDK soundtrack helped set the mood.
Walter,Always so cool and calm,what a legend
Glad to see Walter having different kind of facial expressions when driving, I thought I was a bit weird for doing that. 👽Great lap!
His lines are impeccable!! So smooth…. A 7.20 short shifting at 8000rpm with another 1000 to go…
He was running at 80% and still faster than 99.999% of wannabe ring pilots.
A true legend in every sense.
Terrifying how easy Walter made this look…. Class.
what a legend, he enjoys every second of it!
Well done Walter! Times are changing and you're just coming down into the "floating modus"... Love your way, many greetings from Salzburg/Austria...🍾
The legend himself drove perfectly I throughly enjoy it just like you did Misha. That was just awesome !!!!
Walter Rohrl 77, timeless n effortless. can only imagine the feelings Misha had on this lap all i know is i smiled the whole lap with u Misha.
Will always remember being in High School and watching Walter drive that Audi 4wd beast around the track...not only was that car legendary it had a legendary driver....so awesome to experience him driving again!
Amazing. It´s a real privilege to be able to watch Walter Röhrl driving like this at 77. A true legend. Hope to see him for many years!
Mein Gott Walter das Zucken im Kupplungsfuss hast du nicht verlernt für mich einer der Besten und legendärsten Rennfahren der Welt ich hoffe du bleibst Aufrecht und für immer Ehrlich Gott beschütze dich
A true legend, with a future legend , legendary ❤
One of, if not the smoothest and calm laps I have seen. Undramatic. Perfect car. Thank you for this video, and thank you for all the variety in cars and experiences you have showed throughout the years.
Misha's face at 7:51 was epic... what happens? 😂😂 looks like strange thing about the car, maybe downshift.
Anyways, one of the best laps with the myth!
I'll never forget watching this man in his Quattro in my teenage years. Just legendary. Thanks for that👍
Everything feels so 100% smooth and controlled. What a master. I could close my eyes and feel relaxed on the passenger seat. If Walter Röhrl drives the car, you are safe!
Walter Rohrl is a class act. I remember watching him drive Asconas and Quattros in the 80s.
Possibly the greatest driver of all time.
An absolute legend.
