Usually being a dad to very little kids means you don't have time to offroad like you used to, but Doug hasn't come to that realization yet. The burden of parking this beast in small spots, and getting kids in and out of doors that swing outwards will take a toll within a matter of minutes. @splkzyy Před 29 dny +57

sequoia gets comfier when it’s fully loaded. because of how heavy it tows, the suspension is significantly stiffer to take on the the heavy weight. so when it’s under pressure is where it really settles in and becomes comfy. also the TRD PRO has stiffer side walls and off-road tires generally make a car feel slightly stiffer. if you are looking for comfort you should probably try the limited or platinum with no more than 20” wheels. it’s the way to go. also, the trd pros need at least 3000 miles till the suspension gets run in and gives you its max comfort

While I think the new Sequoia does many things well it lacks things for the price. I am referring to the Capstone trim level. The seats are too stiff, I felt like I was sitting on bleachers. The lack of a folding flat 3rd row is unacceptable when everyone else can do it. The hood is flimsy and flexes when you drive in a decent wind.
Very sharp vehicle, I was let down when I actually saw it and drove it over 150 miles.

I just bought a white Tacoma and have owned more Toyotas than anything else over the years and Toyota has never failed me. We traded in our 2008 Highlander with almost 300K miles for the Tacoma because we're at a later change in life. Our son is an adult and our daughter is driving her own car, we really don't need a third row... or even the second much, but we like hauling kayaks and stuff. As life goes, your needs change and I think you made the right choice for this stage in life. When it comes to reliability, Toyota remains the best choice.

I'm surprised he didn't consider the Lexus GX. It's essentially a Toyota, three rows, arguably looks better, has a better interior, and not too far off in size to the last gen full-size Land Cruiser Doug just sold. I also suspect it will retain more of its value than a Sequoia over time as well.

The storage space in the trunk wasn’t good. If you are going across the country you will need a roof rack or tow hitch box. Sold it for a new Sienna minivan. While it doesn’t off road or tow, it beats the sequoia in every other way. 3 times the gas mileage. 5 times the storage space. Smoother, quieter. Easier to live with with sliding doors and easier to park. Our other vehicle is a model x. Shockingly it is a perfect road trip car for 6. Tons of storage for soft bags. Great tech. Loved the torque of the powertrain, especially on the highway. Was clearly much more refined than my 2013 Tundra. I prefer the V8 for regular driving and the space of the last gen Tundra/Sequoia but the newer features were very nice. It's a damn shame they left the roll down rear window off the Sequoia. These SUVs look killer when you add the Wescott Designs leveling kit and some bigger tires/wheels. Toyota rarely wows with standard features and point by point reviews, because they just don't care about them. They're giving you a product that is comparable with it's peers that is going to cost less to own and be reliable. Never the sexiest choice but often the right choice...

I think Doug has a point. The TRD Pro has the hardware that some of us want/need, but it also features styling elements that don’t really work for some guys over a certain age.
The TRD Off Road package in the 4Runner has all the TRD Pro hardware that you need but without the Fox shocks or the gaudy styling touches. The TRD OR 4Runner is extremely capable off road but features more subtle styling than the TRD Pro. That is sort of the theme for the previous generation Land Cruiser in some ways.
Maybe Toyota should improve the native off road capability of the Sequoia (which is frankly disappointing off road) and offer the TRD OR package on the Capstone. Then there would be a legitimate replacement for the old full sized Land Cruiser for people that didn’t want the Lexus LX.

Doug, I’m in the same boat as you. 3 children in car seats and want it to do everything you pointed out. Sequioa or a 4x4 Sprinter Van is what I’m leaning towards.
My biggest gripe is the rear cargo floor on the sequoia! Ugh, that’s it’s biggest downfall.

It would be cool if on some of the "higher end" vehicles you talk about you toss in something about what kind of stereo it has from the factory. Most car companies are finally offering some pretty nice 3rd party (Bose, Harman Karden etc.) as an upgraded OEM piece of equipment. And some of the car companies have gone "crazy". Like Mercedes Benz S-Class now have a top of the line stereo with 32-34 speakers in it. Yep, that's not a typo. So it would be cool to hear a quick 1 minute description in your review. Thanks.

Waited years for my new Sequoia. Don’t love it. The Navigator was more comfortable, better drive, better space, better stereo, better gas mileage. That space in the back is a terrible design. Many of us are trading in for something else. Maybe you’ll enjoy. They “look” nice but that’s it…IMHO😊

Navigator is not a competitor of sequoia, compare it to lexus lx600 and the lexus is more comfortable than the navigator.

Falken Wildpeaks are easily my favorite all terrain tires right now. Had a boss put them on our work pickup close to 6 years ago and now they're what i run on my personal vehicles.
Nice ride on dry surfaces and great traction on snow and ice, especially for being all seasons and not snow tires
