I didn't lose any relatives, but dad was navy, uncle was Air Force, Cousin was A/F, etc. It feels so wrong that good, hard-working, civic-minded men from the 30's, 40's, 50's, 60's and more that fought for our country are not getting the recognition that we should be giving them. I am always amazed when reading/watching docs about the US before the attack on Pearl harbor. I do not know enough to know how visible/persistent the anti-war movement was. As someone who will fight always for everyone's right to speak, and to influence, this shows the power of disinformation campaigns, and the insufficiency of most democracy implementations. We see the same in the Netherlands, with disproportional time and energy spent on misinformed resistance against well-thought out ideas and policy. Second, helping Ukraine provides the impetus to restart our military production. And third, we are learning a lot of valuable stuff from the Ukrainians, and we are able to field test weapons and tactics that have been developed over the past few decades.
Supporting Ukraine is such an obviously smart move that I seriously doubt the sincerity of Ukraine critics.

Neither Russia nor China have communist economic systems, and haven't for some time - despite the name of China's governing party. China is a mix of state and private capitalism. Russia is also capitalist, though the state has a controlling interest in many of the larger corporations.
I would guess most Republican politicians understand that Democrats aren't communist - they just use the term as a form of abuse, and to rile up the base - who, like many Americans, don't really seem to understand what socialist or communist actually means - except that both these things are definitely bad, having been raised and programmed to believe this since birth.
