My understanding is that it was (at least in part) the very payments at issue here-- in particular the payments he made to Daniels were in excess of the amounts allowed under the campaign finance laws.

He did go on several news shows,but every time he always told them he couldn't talk about what he'd told the prosecution. He never revealed anything about the case or what he was going to say.
So this trial is just like an episode of Law and Order where a lawyer shouts "objection" and the judge says "overruled" without the lawyer having to state the nature of the objection? Or is the court reporter just not transcribing that part of it?

There has not actually been anything presented during the case that’s a crime. It’s not a crime to pay for NDAs. It’s not a crime to have your attorney arrange for the payments and the details. It’s not a crime to take your attorney’s advice on how to do it. It’s not a crime to pay your attorney back for having done this. It’s not a crime for a bookkeeper, who isn’t you, to label those payments as “legal expenses”.
