Appreciate?! How can they appreciate anything after working 40-60 hours a week and still don’t have enough because you need an average of 60k a year across America to afford rent?! I think we need to reassess the issues here. Yeah wages still are not high enough, but our free market commoditization of necessities is conflicting with some employers ability to even come close to meet living wages. Stop giving workers a hard time. They literally can’t work any harder and the nerve to say they don’t appreciate is completely detached from reality. It’s not just wages, price controls or windfall taxes or something needs to be implemented because every penny we get more, the price of services and goods goes up a dollar yet none of that “trickles back down “ into increasing wages further. I’m in my 40’s and I’m over it! My kids are having a harder time than I did at their age plus they have to clean up the mess left by my grandparents. Aggressive actions need to be taken. People don’t want to rent homes with 6 roommates just to get by. Single parents are doomed and abortion is illegal in like half the states. In ten years we will have triple the homeless if it keeps up.

What planet does Steve Rattner live on? I can't afford meat or fresh fruits and vegetables any longer. One grapefruit cost $2 my local grocery store. A 16oz bottle of soda costs $2.80. Fixed income citizens are now on involuntary starvation diets. Once you pay your rent if you can afford to still pay rent, you are literally broke. I'm voting for anyone who is most likely able to put an end to this madness.
At retirement, this is our reward for a lifetime of contributions to economic well being of this country? The greed that is pervasive in boardrooms is unbelievable. And by the way, thank you to everyone of you greedy Republican and Democratic politicians who make poverty a reality in America.

"Why are insurance and car rentals so expensive?" Because insurance companies are driving up the prices because of EVs. I replaced a gas power car with an EV and my monthly insurance price increased $130. And that was after shopping around. I've seen lots of reports saying that very minor damage "totals" an EV, so they are ramping prices up across the board to cover it.
Same for home insurance. In 11 years, my home insurance has doubled twice.

"Inflation" is down this month because a 0.4% from last April fell out of the 12-month calculation window. Next month a 0.1% from May 2023 will fall out of the calculation window, meaning that if prices go up by half as much in May as in April (0.15% - which annualized is below the 2% target), "Inflation" will be down in April and up in May even though prices went up more in April than May.
The 12 month average is interesting to look back on but is a pretty silly metric to talk about in the context of reporting on what prices are doing right now and going forward.

When Gallup asked people how their personal financial situation is, a plurality say they are doing well and the same number who say it is poor as it was in 2020. But when they asked them their perception of the economy, more people think it is worse now than it was in 2020. It seems you're referring to the idea that a significant portion of recent inflation might be attributed to corporate greed rather than just cost adjustments related to the pandemic. This perspective suggests that companies have been raising prices beyond what is justified by increases in their costs, potentially to boost profits.
    To clarify:
    - **Pandemic-related cost adjustments**: During the pandemic, supply chain disruptions, labor shortages, and increased demand for certain goods led to higher costs for businesses. These increased costs were passed on to consumers, contributing to inflation.
    - **Greed-based inflation**: This suggests that some companies may have exploited the situation to raise prices more than necessary, taking advantage of the overall environment to increase their profit margins.
The claim that 45% of inflation is greed-based implies that nearly half of the recent price increases could be due to companies' profit-maximizing behavior rather than just recovering from pandemic-induced cost pressures.
With profits up for the rich, the gap between the rich and poor is growing. Not narrowing.

The conditions for inflation, a lagging indicator, were set during lockdown beginning with the supply chain disruptions. Increased demand and returns for investors (price gouging) played a role as did tariffs (Trump promises more of the latter). Unlike the sluggish recovery from 2007 financial crisis, the post Covid "V" shaped recovery was much quicker. The Fed finally got the inflation it was trying to stoke since 2007 so it can end the zero interest "free money" policy similar to Japan's lost decades. Inflation crisis was handled pretty well, especially compared to the 1970's and 80's when interest rates were north of 20%. Social security received a cost of living increase, now the private sector has to play catch up.

Your analysis sucks the big Casuga. Yes auto insurance increased once, rent increased once but in both cases the consumer has to pay those higher prices each and every month. My auto insurance increased 60% in December, and I have to pay that enormous price increase forever. My rent nearly doubled and it's impact is forever. Also a wage increase of 4.5% is one off while the increase in prices is each and every month so it doesn't take long for the accumulated impact of inflation to overwhelm that one off increase in wages. Bottom line, aggregate data does not reflect income disparity and more so, they distort the true picture.
