@@youngcapitalists9714 yes I do, hello there 👋
What do you expect their home world was in danger well closest thing they have to a home full of brothers so no losing the outpost was not an option.

It's scary how true this is.

no, thats not how we do things. We arrest our own for warcrimes
@@bigredwolf6 the internemnt camps weren't "warcrimes" but they were horrible
Answer: Droids aren't really programed to surrender, and clones are basically unbreakable unless you do something really bad. Also you can't exactly interrogate a droid
Droids can be hacked though.
But apparently they're programmed to show fear and be comic relief?
Tactical Droid: I am programmed to resist interrogation.
Does this imply some droids can be interrogated?
@@LysimedVenteel Well there is no reason to interrogate other droids because they don't know anything
@@calvinmatthews1527 Droids in Star Wars are able to become fully sapient if given time to grow. Which due to lack of maintenance and being over programmed many B1’s did trust that.
It’s a good thing Stormtroopers never wears Beskar armor, or else, young Luke and others wouldn’t have the chance to win against the Empire.
They never had a chance anyway, but plot armor fixes it.

Yeah that’s the canon reason
Solider: Lord Mickey what should we do with the survivors.
Lord Mickey: There are no survivors. *Mickey laugh*
CIS: Because they're droids.
GAR: Because of Obi-Wan.
And Anakin. Don't forget that he did basically the same war crime as well.
When I first saw Clone Wars, I thought Anakin and Obi-Wan's strategies of using surrendering as a tactic as brilliant. Now... I see them as war criminals. Then again I also didn't see the clones as child soldiers (biologically 9 years old - and the same mentally)… So basically everyone in the clone wars was a war criminal.
That the galactic republic for you . currpoted

the republic is the equivilant of the roman senate, democratic by the most loosest of terms and cares way more about control for the sake of control.
course the sepratists did resort to a lot more civilian terror in order to win, but eh both wound up getting stomped on by the new regieme anyway so whoopdiedoo lol

Programming a droid with fear and self preservation is actually a very sound strategy. A droid that can flee and escape can deliver intel and experience in addition to having time to recalculate strategies and tactics. Naturally, this would be most handy in low end droids, like the B-1.
Also it would result in less casualties as the droids would be less likely to walk into open fire, and would help reinforce to the droids that as individuals they are worthless but as a group they are strong. Which we often see battle droids holding hope in a hopeless fight so long as they still have allies, but often break ranks when they’re alone or only a few left
Hey Allen, I’m not sure if you’ll see this but if you do I just want to say thank you. They would simply reprogram them and use them themselves in battle or in other position (in one episode, Anakin and Obi-wan do meet someone who has used battle droids as servants).
Because Obi-Wan and Anakin screwed over everyone by constantly pretending to surrender and then creating a trap (which is an actual war crime in real life). So the Separatists Generals didn't believe it anymore when Republic Troops genuinely wanted to surrender, and just executed everyone. The Seperatists couldn't take the risk. I don't think the Separatists programmed fear into the droids. The droide just likely developed it themselves as quirks. Droids have been shown to develop personalities.
One of the comics stated that destroyed battle droids were reconstructed and shipped to the battlefield again. In the first episode of the Clone Wars tv shows a droid commander said "But I just...got...rebooted!" as Yoda cut him up.

I think it makes sense to program droids fear because then they can estimate the situation better and not just walk into death as fear is a very important instinct
well that doesnt stop them from marching in large formations, the canon reason why they have fear and other emotions programed into them is because of sensory overload
Hey Generation Tech got a fun thought project
What if Tarkin Targeted Lothal instead of Alderaan.
Lothal was in open revolt and threw off imperial control just prior to the battle of Scarif.
Sends a better message than blowing up some pacifist space hippies.
Unfortunately, no one on or relevant to Lothal had the death star plans. Leia came from Alderaan so her world could be threatened so she would reveal those plans. She didn't so she was punished for it. Which involved destroying Alderaan. Anti imperial activity was simply a good excuse.
Plus it sent a message. No matter how powerful, wealthy, beautiful or culturally significant a world is, no world is above imperial law. No one cares what happens to an outer rim world. The whole galaxy stops when a core world suffers. Especially one of the galactic republic's founding worlds.
@@marrqi7wini54 True but it also backfired spectacularly and when the deathstar blew up it became a recruitment bonaza for the rebellion.
of course Tarkin is too damned arrogant to see this as a possibility.
"Evacuate in our moment of triumph? "
But if Lothal was the world made an example of and then the events of Yavin happened?
opinions might be
Well sucks to be Lothal but they were in open revolt and "sided with the rebellion"
unlike the
you blew up a bunch of pacifists that were a center of art & culture.
The destruction of the deathstar would be humiliating either way but if they took out a "legitimate" target before that the fallout might not be as disastrous and the propaganda mill could spin it to make the rebels as the ruthless terrorist organization bent on galactic conquest.
@@marrqi7wini54 why Imperials need their own plans? Rebels probably already made digital copies
@@goodmind4940
Those were the imperials plans, the rebels stole them. If anything they should have had copies.
(But villains can't be smart now can they.)
Also, according to rogue one and a new hope, the rebels just stole those plans. They would have no time to get a copy.
@@marrqi7wini54 Seriously, people? No one needs to get back plans of their own from the enemy because they don't have a copy. You want to stop your enemies from learning about your weapon/army because they can exploit this knowledge to find a flow in your defense and exploit it which is exactly what the Rebels did.
Think about it this way: you're a general who plans where to place your troops to get the best defence or attack position you can. Then a spy, steals your plans. Do you want to catch/kill him because you don't know where your own troops are or because you don't want the enemy to learn this and use it to their advantage?
Droids: *Find surrendering clones*

It may have been the same planet there was seen in the Solo movie.
Well you would have to program fear in droids so that they don’t walk of cliffs or needlessly perish for things like environmental dangers, also if droids try and run from the enemy of its clear they have lost a skirmish they would be able to report back to a commander if signals are jammed.
I’ve been watching star wars videos for so long now that when I see a video like this my thoughts are always “Hm, I know the answer but I’ll watch it anyway.”
When both sides are expendable, there is no need for prisoners.
cool vid Alan enjoyed it
I have nothing to say about this video except that when it comes to taking prisoners, both the Republic and the Separatists are willing to commit such actions only when they are in the right places and the right times.
No prisoners, only trophies.
Bee.. I think they're going to... kill us
"I think they're going to kill us!"
Intro of the first Bad Batch episode:
Shows surrendering Battledroids
It really is not the first time the idea of capturing droids or having them surrender has been raised, Obi wan captured one by locking him in a cell and two droids discussed whether they should run or surrender to Mace Windu (before being shot ), but this has been the first time that the matter has been treated seriously and not as humor.
"mace windu can do what he wants"
he literally punched droids to dust in the 2d clone wars so you're not wrong
Personally, I'd probably accept surrender from battle droids. They seem to be at least somewhat self aware, and I wouldn't feel good about wiping them out
@@bigredwolf6 yeah. They would be good for menial work since they don't seem to have strong disdain for whatever orders they're given. Jobs like fire fighting and hazmat would also be an option since droids are more durable than humans. Idk exactly what a B1 likes to do, but I imagine sufficient fuel, a very small stipend, and a bit of free time would be enough to keep them content
What if you gave them rights and free will and such, just like regular citizens?
Amazing video.
I find it weird when people bring up that droids can’t surrender when there are many examples of them attempting to or discussing surrender

@@pyeitme508 "So the Earthlings really do fire primitive projectiles at their enemies! I had always wondered if it was true"
the clone wars had so many unnecessary casualties
It's quite the miracle that Monnk and the other scuba-troopers were taken prisoners instead of executing them on the spot.
The organic forces that fought for the separatists used to take prisoners since they considered them slaves forced to fight for the Republic, so they tried to be as merciful as possible with them, usually when the defensive forces of a separatist planet captured clones they tried to also give them proper treatment, this is different when those who capture the clones are Siths or megacorporations, since these were almost always those who committed war crimes, also even Dooku himself said:
"If we kill every Jedi who surrenders, we simply encourage them to fight to the death. "
The reason the Separatists didn't take prisoners is because their army was made up of cold calculating driods who executed their POWS after a battle. All the Republic did was steal a B1 Battle driod head to unlock Separatist troop movements.
Incorrect because: not all separatist soldiers are droids, and those that are have as superiors to individuals who are organic, the Republic in the same way takes prisoners to organic soldiers and sometimes also to enemy droids who surrender or are captured.
The droid army did take prisoners, commanders, even clone prisoners, if they felt said prisoners would be useful. The problem is first, the droids KNEW the grand army didn't care about its clones. If they captured 2000 clones... the grand army wouldn't care. There wouldn't be an attempt to repatriate clones. There wasn't even a care for how prisoners of war clones would be treated...
on the flip side, any time the separatists tried to negotiate regarding taking prisoners of war, it ended up being a trap. A trick by the jedi. given that, there was no reason for the separatists to even consider taking prisoners unless they were of some use.
Thats true.
In the Clone Wars series, the droids do raise their hands in the air in surrender and are killed anyway multiple times
Wow and literally first 🥇, well it's because most combatants are products (clones and droids) so not much POWs.
No prisoners cus the clones would just go right back to the front lines
The beginning of this video gave me an idea for another video this channel should do: What war crimes are there in the Star Wars universe, besides those regarding targeting civillians and the enslavement of non-clone sentient individuals? This probably could spill over into droids and clone rights and such.
Perfect, uploaded just for cleaning time ❤
Because the Jedi kept using surrender as a way to get a tactical advantage so there was no reason to separate us to ever heed such calls.
Interesting tid bit about the separatist droids on the citadel (reprogrammed ones) there are actually 4 deaths among the 3 droids. It’s during the fight for the shuttle, one gets shot, then later on when they make their last stand there are still 3 left
The answer is: because of Obi-Wan and Anakin always making false surrenders, separatists decided just to not take anyone in captivity anymore
The head in the middle at 7:50 looked sus to me
The first episode of the Bad Batch really made this a bit outdated with a bunch of battle droids straight up surrendering.
The truth is that you are right XD.
U can make a video about 10 honorable jedi deaths
4:45 can some one tell me what's the name and number of that episode????
A rational explaination why the Republic didn't use anymore captured droids could be that CIS forces placed a self destruction chip in battle droids' heads, so if you captured one, it activated, avoiding similar situations.
there is actually one scene in the clone wars where a b1 surrenders but is struck down. i dont know when this happened, but i will notify if i found the scene
I mean didn’t the droids ask in season when when facing mace windu on ryloth if it would be better for them to surrender? So they had to of had at least the thought of surrender programmed into them at some point
In my opinion, only droids who develop personalities can come to the conclusion that in a losing battle where you cannot flee, it is better to surrender.
I love you Allen
Adding fear could have a tactical advantage, if an at-te walked up on some b1s they would seek cover and hopefully launch group attacks to overwhelm the tank or any other threat
Would be cool to see a separatist commander not accept a genuine republic surrender due to having wised up to the jedi's war crimes and thinking it was a trick
"Prisoners of the Clone Wars" good name for a metal band! 🤘🏻
I don't know, I've swear in the clone wars series I've heard a droid yell "I surrender" before a Jedi destroyed it.
I mean after a certain amount of anikan pattern false surrenders I imagine he CIS may get sick of their shit. The man does it so often without repercussions I imagine it became tactcally unviable to consider accepting a surrender due to the sheer quantity of false ones this man had his forces preform.
There was a droid prisoner on ryloth
When it was cleaning a cage
I remember him
Why wasn’t it mentioned
@@republictrooper1944 I don't know, maybe because he did not surrender voluntarily but was captured, although in Bad Batch it has already been shown that the droids can surrender so ...

People can say what they want about plot armor. Almost every Jedi dies during the purge, Kenobi is killed, luke endures massive physical trauma, Anakin does the same even more so until finally letting go, Qui-Gon is killed infront of his Padawan, Ventress was killed, Voss turned because of it, Jaba dies, Jango Dies infront of his son, Boba comes out scared and worn, on and on. Everyone that lives in the Galaxy Far Far away has a hell of a hard time it seems, excepting an elite few.
"Droid would not surrender"
Then why do they surrender all the time, only to be mowed down by the "good guys"?
Nobody thinks about droids!
How is the Earth vs the Republic coming along?
Have you done a video of the and history from the side of the separatist and what would of happened if they had won?
Also what happened to the separatist, did thy help the rebels?
Also Dave Filoni has serious favoritism towards the GAR. That's what I hate the most about TCW, it mostly portrays the CIS as the badguys and we're only told, not shown how dirty the Republic is. I mean, have you ever seen a Jedi not kill a B1 for fun or because it's supposed to funny?
Mercy, please!
*there is no mercy!*
Plot twist: The one asking for mercy is a droid and the one not going to give it is a clone.
Because that prisoners may run away and leak secrets?
Saying it now, echo sees the say hologram of fives that rex did and that's why the bad batch turns on the empire
I have to disagree about the fear thing. It makes perfect sense to program it in to them. Not even considering the possiblity that it wasn't programmed in, but that they may have learned it. But even ignoring that, and assuming its programmed in, it makes sense. Fear, just like pain, can help an orginasim to stay alive. Help them know when to avoid things or not. So it really would be useful in the droids. Only thing is they had to much of it. But programing some fear would make sense.
At some point they would have issues with mass routs, maybe keep fear to a minimum imo
@@sethvandelft4337 There wasn't as they had it. And while routing is always an issue with real arimes, it isn't that huge a thing when an army is managed and run properly, unless it goes against odds it shouldn't. So long as they kept fear to or a bit under what most organic beings felt should be fine.

Battle droids don’t surrender they fight to the death
In the bad batch you can see some droids surrender
@@pc_115 most of them do I miss the bad batch in there
@@sheepystopmotion7713 It really depends, droids have 3 options as to what to do when a battle is lost:
-Fight to the death (usually done by non-sentient droids or those who are cornered and cannot retreat.)
-Escape (usually that's what they normally do as you don't want to waste doids in a losing battle if you can save them to fight another day.)
-Surrender / beg for mercy (usually done by sentient droids that no longer have a chance to flee, although if the droid in question is very brave he may choose to fight to the death.)
Keep in mind that the decision of a droid depends on several factors such as: the type of droid, the place of the battle, the level of sensitivity of the droid, the enemy they are facing, the hopelessness of the situation, etc...
It is not that easy and as with clones there is no universal answer.
Imagine being a clone POW on Umbara..
Actually it wouldn't be that bad, the Umbarans didn't really violate the Geneva Convention at any time, I guess they would just put you in a maximum security prison, until the Republic captures the capital of Umbara, after that they would release you once the hostilities are over, and the Umbara campaign didn't last long so you won't even be a prisoner for long.
