"Jedi younglin'd all the Separatist leaders"
Imao best line ever.
In short, it was a combination of lack of quality DNA and Palpatine being a control freak.
Has there been a lore explanation for why you can’t just clone a fett clone? Boba at least was unmodified so i assume his clones would be the same perfect, or would a clone of a clone be disfigured?
When bots can’t use proper grammar
Lol this comment is too accurate
It’s sad how the clones were disposable in the war and were just erased like they’re nothing
Plus even if controlling the Clones wasn't a problem clones cost billions of credits to produce and would bankrupt the Republic's economy
The way he says “Utapau” made me laugh and cry.
I feel like he just mispronounces things on purpose at this point

"Officially, there never was a 'clone rebellion' on Kamino. Unofficially, approximately twenty years after we were created, a special detachment of the Imperial 501st Legion was dispatched to Kamino, with orders to eradicate an army of clones that had been bred to take arms against the Empire."
It was legend
@@collector1951 Who? Cares
Palpatine wanted to ensure that if his army turned on him they would miss every shot.
There is also the PR to consider. Palpatine needed the Imperial citizenry to have a vested interest in the military.
"Get rid of the clones"

"They weren't in the OT."
Thank you. Everyone is overthinking it
These clones were my childhood
I agree
@@sindari-22 This isn’t a matter of agreeing 😂 you either say they were or weren’t your childhood.
This is my childhood I watch the Clone Wars since the first season to 7

Question: Why did the Emperor get rid of the clone army?
Answer: "After the Kamino uprising, the Emperor decided that an army of genetically identical soldiers was too susceptible to corruption. Future troopers would be cloned from a variety of templates. Though the 501st itself remained pure, the rest of the Imperial Army gradually became more and more diverse. We never really got used to the new guys." -anonymous 501st Stormtrooper
That’s legends.
@@budgetstylestories8357 are storm troopers clones in legends?
@@Grifffffith no what the clone said is legends because what he said came from OG Battlefront 2.
@@budgetstylestories8357 It's still a better explanation than anything.
@@HolyknightVader999 true, it's honestly pretty sad that Disney put down legends for the new "canon". Some of the best stories from Star Wars were from Legends.
I think the Kaminoan uprising and them creating rebellious clones was a major factor.
that isn't canon
@@craggywag5482
Not canon yet
It seems like bad batch might be heading in that direction
Clones were too expensive and too much of a hassle. With the Jedi dead Palpatine had less reason to require an elite army of well trained soldiers. Hence the reason he relied more on Stormtroopers.
well probalby he feared some incidents with chips occured again, too
@@fabioartoscassone9305 probably didn’t fear that. He feared something else.
@Sypha Flowen The real reason is because in the OT there weren't any clones as far as we could tell, so the clones had to go.
"Too expensive" is a relative term for an empire that constructs two Death Stars and an equally powerful starfleet supporting the occupation forces of thousands of systems.
@Sypha Flowen Yes but they never would have cloned someone who was that bad a shot
Considering what was done to create the clones, Palpatine might have been worried about a possible clone rebellion.
Everybody I know still thinks the stormtroopers are clones. But I also struggled with this question and you gave the right answer.
Another reason for Palpatine to get rid of the clone army: Also included on the inhibitor chips was Order 65, which called for the removal (by execution if necessary) of the Supreme Commander of the GAR, aka: the Supreme Chancellor, i.e: Palps himself. He had to get rid of the clones before somebody who didn't like him discovered that one.
I was somehow triggered by the "Hello there, friends", I felt instantly the need to reply "General Kenobi!".
Hello there, friends
Every time he opens like that. I love it.
Let us not forget the attempted clone rebellion on Kamino was the final straw that made Palpatine shut down the clone program forever.
Coming into this video I was skeptical, but you absolutely nailed your explanation 👏
Very succinct, this is the best Star Wars channel
the pause at the start absolutely got me
Another great video.
I was going to request this video!
I love you videos and voice!
Luke's group wouldn't have escaped if the Death Star had clone troopers instead of storm troopers lol
Yes
The rebellion wouldn't of been a thing if they were still clones
tbf the stormtroopers were under orders to let them escape.
501st was on the death star
As is made clear in the film, Tarkin let them go in order to lead the Death Star to the rebel base....
Good video!
Clones: elite Shock Troops
Stormtroopers: easily SHOCKED Troops
good deal, palp, goooooood deal
I hope we get to see the Kamino rebellion in Bad Batch
Yup, sort of.
Stormtroopers didn’t just replace Clone Troopers.
Clone troopers become Stormtroopers.
I swear to God if I hear one more joke about Stormtrooper inaccuracy I'm going to flip out
the joke so overplayed now
They aim fine their aims as good as any non named star wars characters
Everyone gangsta till han shoots first, yo.
First point, with the destruction to the galactic economy not only does the Empire have a surplus of available volunteers, it also has a surplus of otherwise unemployed citizens. The Roman Empire understood idle hands create dangerous mutineers. This is why they both increased the size of their legions and assigned those legions to construct infrastructure like roads, cities, and ports.
Second, the rapid aging of the clones created a significant issue once the war was over. A clone was perfect for a five to ten year war, but rapidly aging soldiers are counter productive in peacetime. A military wants to invest two years training a soldier so they get 20+ years of service out of them if they go career. They don’t want to invest ten years to get ten years of service.
Palpatine also needed a policing government. The Coruscant Guard had proven to be pretty poor at their job policing civilians since the civilian life was pretty alien to the clones.
Imagine if Allen never repeated saying who he is, we’d never know who the man talking to us is!
I think he needs to reassure himself that he's Allen sometimes too. Those damn dolphins massacred our boy good :(

He needed the money...for Death Stars! 🤑
This could also explain another reason why there was so few clones made in comparison to how big the Galaxy was. The clones were there to wipe out the Jedi Order, end of story. As elite forces what clones were available would go to the Jedi while the rest of the army got filled out by Natborns.
So at the end of the day the Republic could have essentially already had _two_ armies and given how the army was made up of forces from so many planets and all the turmoil nobody would have really noticed.
Also I can just picture the remaining Jedi and Vader turning around and realising that while they were busy fighting a war and out in the Outter Rim, Sidious has been amassing the Imperial Empire behind them in all but name.
So if anything Sidious would have _wanted_ the number of Clones to stay small. Enough to wipe out the Jedi, and elite enough to make them worth the continued investment, but _not_ enough to discourage Natborns joining. Also given there was likely a lot of people who _wanted_ to be able to join the army, this could have just killed two birds with one stone.
Hope they don’t get phased out too fast, i really want some new clone variants like the clone shadow trooper, it’s a sin such a cool design is left to rot on some non canon obscure 2008 figure.
they already have recruits in Bad Batch, canon phases out clones immediately and Legends slower
The clones don’t really get phased out until a couple of years into the Galactic Empire. They still remain in Vader’s Fist, the Darktrooper 0, and the Purge troopers.
@@LucyWest370 we know the new dark gray «clone troopers» are human recruits by their figure description, but in the trailer we clearly see there are still A LOT of clones left in their prime, so they can’t possibly be phased out in the first season, maybe in season 4, and theres only 3 new gray «clones» following that new clone commander, i just want some new real clone variants and obviously see them serve the empire, and maybe see how the chips have affected them.
@@goodmind4940 yeah the new dark gray «clones» but in the trailers we see theres a lot of real clones left in their prime and shiny armor, so i hope they stick around until at least season 3-4, because stormtroopers outright suck, theres no tension.
@@goodmind4940 not immediately, both are still the same in the Star Wars universe.
The Clone Army was Palpatine's tool in his rise to power and the formation of the evil Galactic Empire and the fall of the Jedi Order. Once the Clone Army fulfilled their purpose they outlived their usefulness and The Clone Army was obselete.
Baron Harkonen in Dune explained it best: never trust a traitor, even one you created yourself.
Because lucas hadn't come up with the idea when he was filming "Star Wars" (not yet called A new Hope) oh damn the actual reason.
Its worth remembering the animosity that the republic citizens had developed toward the GAR - they had no emotional connection to it: their sons had not died in battle, there were no folded flags on family shrines. The only connection the general population had to the GAR was the endless taxation levied to fund the war. Loyalty to the Empire could be enhanced if the general population had links through familial loss rather than economic deprivation. Animosity toward the GAR and the Jedi was a sentiment that Palpatine used to good effect - and visible in several episodes (e.g. Teckla Minnau's description of her village, a bar keepers response to the Jedi when they went looking for information on the lower levels).
grievous death makes a new meaning for heart burn
Do a video on what kind of military the US defense budget can buy in Star Wars I think it would pretty cool for a video.
Should have at least kept the commandos, those guys were amazing and he totally needs that kind of trooper
Clone vs stormtrooper
Not even a fight
Clone would win no brainer
Clone wins! but there are a few good Stormtrooopers out there but clone vs storm CL all day
He just has a soft spot for the surviving jedi and knows the clones would have better aim than the stormtroopers
I think in order to grow the army not only did they continue to hire other humans but they cloned not just jango clones but dozens of the toughest humans both male and female to build the galaxy army
0:30 Isn't that what you call,
*A decapitation strike?*
Something I thought while watching this and finding myself looking at the posters, "You know, Alan would make a good Han Solo."
What is the banging sound in the background of this video? Is someone knocking on a door or hammering something?
I feel like it’s the heart and minds of the people. The average citizen is less likely to rebel if they know someone in the GAR. It gives a face to the faceless stormtroopers and becomes more personal.
I love how many people are quoting from the original Battlefront 2. It is my favorite star wars game and has provided some of the best stories for the clones and will always be my canon
Building a death star is extremely expensive also.😁
"Remember no clones"

Execute order: "Do it" 😂😂😂👍
I agree with your thoughts here, but I do think that another factor would have been to thin the ranks of the planets in the empire - by taken their children, the emperor reduced the number of potential troops that could have been recruited by insurgencies on those planets.
Utapau (ooh- ta-pow is how palpy pronunces it
"Jedi younglinged" LOL
Not sure if anyone else said this but palpatine stopped clone production after the kamino rebellion where some kaminoans made their own clone army called anti-troopers to fight against the empire look up the 501 journal kamino for more
Legends, he would have a great many more reasons to get rid of them; he was preparing for an extragalactic war basically with the vong; as Allen mention, they didn't have the finances to operate the clone troopers, let alone their ships, etc. all while waiting for the vong to come. Also, stormtroopers really get a bad rep in cannon, it's true they're not clone troopers, but they didn't suck first combat scene; we see they dominated the rebels in the Corellian corvette in a hallway with a door as their only avenue of approach, and people say skywalkers own hallways. Try doing it without the force and lightsabers. Also, in the OG Thrawn Trilogy, it clearly shows the empire valued its stormtroopers when they weren't engaging any plot armor they could be more than equal to many of the galaxies militaries, they put down the clone insurgents on Kamino and separatists hold outs, they enslaved dam wookies and took out Jedi though rare. Disney just fucked them over. Other than that, their only awful moment was on Endor with the teddy bears.
In legends however, those were the 501st clone troopers in Stromtrooper outfits that took down the CIS in Mustafar and needed Boba Fett with the Kamino uprising from the Clones
@@Venom3254 thats true but the stormtroopers at that point severly would have hampered their effectiviness compared to the clone war 501st
I've always had a strange belief that the death star was going to hit mandalore first, I also put the decommissioning of the clones was to keep them frm joining mandalore, at least part of the many, many reasons.
He just didn't want to deal with numbers.
Im curious where is that clip from 5:25
You may have already though about this but I’d love to see a video on the evolution of light speed in Star Wars. Why did it go from light speed to hyperspace? And is there a difference in canon or is that just Disney’s decision
I'd point out another issue that goes into that expense/return problem. If someone in, say, the US Army started at 18 and went full career (like a Clone trooper) he would retire at 60...42 years. The double aging clones may serve farther into their old age but you still get 25 years of useful service at best...and as you said you have to spend about 10 years to train them. 35 years expense for 25 years of usefulness vs a few months of training for 42 years usefulness. REX IS A RARITY SO DON'T SAY IT!
ALAN YOU ARE WORSE THAN A CLONE ! YOU ARE A NERF HERDER
Hey someone has to make sure nerf steaks arrive on peoples tables
Storm troopers are Army. Clone troopers are Marines! Semper fi!
Ole uncle palpie!
Legends showed that there were in between stages of the Empire being weaned off of clones and depending on birth born humans. The in between stages were cheaper clones of different people from different cloning centers. Remaining Fett Clones were consolidated to Vader's Fist.
By the time of the original trilogy, most of the stormies were normies, but I believe Vader's Fist was still largely Fett Clones, and one of the earlier Legends books has Luke discover that there were a battalion of stormies that were clones. He tried to use the force to detect them and found it odd because they were all of the same person.
Was this thumbnail a house of M reference?"no more mutants"
It would cost more but the retention rate and commitment level would never compare to conscripts or enlisted troops.
It would be interesting if crimson dawn or some crime organization in the Star Wars universe would buy them or high ranking Mandalorians
The Kenobi series finally showed us what happens to the Clones.
Execute Order 65- NO WAIT!! 66!!!
Interesting thing about conscription and volunteer is in the military you have good soldiers and bad soldiers, the very individual has so many variables that while 1 might relectantly accept blood and gore as prices of war another might turn into a mass murder because they enjoy blood and gore. With clones they have the same mentality, genetic predisposition to think the same way. Clones who defected done so because they was always genetically predisposed to feel like that. They chose to leave or stay, something the clankers didn't as the battle went on they developed personalities and the opposite happened to the clones. They lost humanity as many brothers fell, feeling hopeless and Captain Rex even developed Survivors Guilt by Order 66. Captain Rex could kill his brothers because his template (Jango Fett) became battle harden as he fought as a bounty hunter, there is no right or wrong just people who ended up on the wrong sides of the track. Captain Rex was accepting that he chose the wrong side but felt it was right and prepared to die.. In a way, Captain Rex transitioned from a clone to an original the moment he defied the chip. His chip might have been defective or will power won he chose to fight the effects.
In summary, Conscription vs Clones, Clones are better because the uniformed raised history as Conscription allows to many defects into the ranks
The biggest threat to the empire was a popular uprising. The clones were more than skilled enough to wipe out any force. But the easiest way to prevent the uprising was put everybody in the army in the first place. Then the clones sre not even needed.
I wouldn't mind having my own clone army. It's be pretty kool to see.
One, because the Kaminoans tried creating a clone uprising. He had Clone Troopers fighting all the way until the Battle of Hoth.
Two, because for whatever reason, he decided they are no longer needed.
I would argue that clone troopers would actually have a lot of transferable skills.
* If you can fly or maintain fighters, shuttle and frigates, you're already extremely valuable in a galaxy whose society is highly based on interstellar travel.
* Clones, while not 100% loyal, were far more loyal than the average galactic citizen and used to hard trials and tribulations. This meant that for all intents and purposes, any employer hiring a clone would be guaranteed a reliable, hard worker.
* The base skillset of clones would be excellent for policing.
Not to mention the level of organizational and leadership skills. Clones knew how to operate and work together in armies numbering in the millions.
i love the puns
Man, during the intro right before you said your name, You started sounded a letting sad. Hope all is okay friend!
I don't know but having a chip in their head that turns them against the emperor seems like a good reason to eliminate clones as a threat.
The Kaminoan product does look nice and sleek. But if I were buying a clone army I would rather go to the Dominion and buy their Jem'Hadar with a Vorta as a bonus. It only takes about a week for Jem'Hadar to be fully mature and combat ready.
A new iOS update to the bio chip would have solved a lot of issues.
But they better be thorough with the beta test…
Correct me if I'm wrong since I did not watch any of the shows but their accelerated growth rate would eventually lead to an early death right? I mean they didn't mature fast and then hit a normal pace in their aging?
Yep, that's what I thought too.
Palpatine a genius for a clone army
Man this was awesome, but I prefer SW Battlefront 2 Pandemic Kamino mission for the canon answer until Bad Batch gives us another one.
Basically why buy 100 Ferrari's when you can get 1,000,000 Honda Civic's for the same price.
there's also if anybody ever figured out how to deactivate the inhibitor chip the clones would have been terrified what they've done would have seeked revenge on the emperor
8:46 "That didn't have any skills that would be useful in the private sector". They could become Security Guards, or become private investigators or bounty hunters and chase criminals. As for security work though, it may be hard to find security work that is not hard, dangerous, or otherwise in high demand when its cheaper to use droids, which are good enough for most situations. In real life, in war torn parts of the world such as Afghanistan, there is a demand for heavily armed security contractors and private military contractors, with the same thing in the maritime industry for ship security guards.
Also, the Clone Army can be utilized for crime fighting and disaster response, especially on outer rim worlds the the Coruscant underworld, and individual Clones can join sector and planetary law enforcement. I do know that in my own country, the United States of America, it is common for law enforcement officers to be former or reserve military members, and some countries have a gendarmerie (military force for policing civilians) and/or otherwise allow the military to be used to fight crime and terrorism.
Not that I'm saying that the Clone Army was a good idea, from a long-term or moral standpoint.
Actually, we'll probably see some of that sort of "civilian" market for clone skills in the Bad Batch.
In Rebels, Rex said the Emperor declared the clone army "obsolete". There didn't seem to be a big effort to purge them. He just let them rapid age out of being a significantly threatening force over the next years.
Was it ever explained, canon wise why when the 501st marched on the Jedi temple their helmets were just plain helmets and not painted up to show their individuality?
Interesting how they included nationalising the banks, very interesting.
Could Palpatine use Carbonite Freezing to have the Clones as a backup in case he needed such elite Soldiers again? I mean Carbon freezing was already used in the Clone wars during the Citadel Misson. This way he would still have the best Soldiers in the galaxie ready to use in the fight against the rebels and he didn't need to pay for their food etc. He also woudn't need to pay for new clones if they wouldn't age while being frozen. The easier jobs could still be carried out by "normal" Stormtroopers.
A whole army without genetic diversity would be to easy to take out using bioweapons. With the Separatists this wasn't a problem, Dooku would see to it that such research would quickly end, but when the enemy was not under Palpatine's control a weapon like that would definitely be developed. I don't think the orders on the chip were the problem. Even if the existing troops couldn't be updated, new clones could get an updated set of orders. After which it's just a mater of time till the old clones have died in battle, which with the right orders can happen very quickly.
I always wondered how good the healthcare benefits were in the Empire.
You know I bet the chips only had place holders for all orders other then 66 you can see an order but just a blank space holder
Woo!!!
Ventress is also killed‼️ She's killed by Dooku and then Anakin kills Dooku in a Space craft above Coruscant. Not to mention that Obi-wan destroys General Grievious on Utapau. All this happens before the Order 66 is decreed.
One big reason that I think you missed is that by having an army made of citizens, you have leverage you don't have with clones. Clones do not have families or homeworlds; so you can't extort or threaten them. If a clone deserts, you can't threaten their family. If a unit rebels, you can't blow up their homeworld. Likewise, knowing that your family member is serving also diminishes your desire to rise up because that person could easily be the one sent to pacify you, or be killed in retribution. By enlisting citizens, Palpatine gains the ability to rule by fear in a way he simply can't with clones.
Because in legends officially there was no clone rebellion...
I think you missed the two biggest reasons:
First, to sustain a planned economy around the Military Industrial Complex requires a massive amount of employment by both the industries supporting the military and the military itself. Without recruits from the civilian populace, there would be too few jobs under the control of the planned economy to maintain control.
Second, Palpatine was a control freak, and having a large portion of the population in the military and under the regimented lifestyle that is involved would have that portion under control, or at least would have potential problems within be easily identified.
Either way, having a large portion of the military not be from the general population would be a disadvantage for his plans for maintaining control going forward.
even though it is not cannon, I like the clone rebellion arc. the imperial 501st was sent to subdue a clone rebellion on Kamino, and Palpatine chose to abandon the fett clone template because it was now susceptible to corruption.
it would have been cool if it was a drop dead order or better yet a kamakazi order
