- Senator Riyo Chuchi has finally made a plea to the imperial senate about the plight of the clone troopers in the galaxy. But is it too little, too late? Why did the galaxy ignore the situation the clone troopers were in for so long, did people just accept the fact that they were born as slaves for the republic's war efforts?

Just like in the episode, a lot of people don't understand it. Heck, there are people who think soldiers are stupid. It was memed when on this channel, they were discussing the IQ test and how dumb it was, one of the guests, a girl, forgot some details about her, shook her head when the other guests said they saw the one who is a US trooper as the real smart one.
It’s something I kinda understand and relate to. While I have never served in the military. Because I’m too young and I’m still in school, I feel a extreme calling to it and I know that when I graduate from high school if not the military then there will be nothing else in this world for me. Sometimes it’s just that calling. Maybe you have the skills or would be better suited for something else but it’s that calling that drives you, that shapes you. And if you can’t grasp that part of you and hold on to it well as Obi Wan said “well then you are lost!”
@@Prophetofthe8thLegion Unless you have brass nuts/tits and feel like dealing with the government weekly with medical expenses and other BS…don’t do it kid. Trust me. I served in the US Army for 8 years, and it got me nowhere with education, a job opportunity afterwards…or anything useful really. The government is very “choosy” on who gets what benefits. Before you ask, it’s not about race or anything like that. I was an E-5 (Sergeant), honourably discharged, and have a few coins and other “rewards” from my time in. Sorry to be such a downer, I just wanted to make sure you have a clear understanding of what you’re getting into. To end on a good note, I will say that I have met the greatest people in my life throughout my stint. I hope this helps, have a great day.

I’m aware it’s gonna suck I’m aware of the issues with the military, I’m aware I’ll probably hate it afterwards. But…I hate pretty much everything else so I’d rather just in the future maybe hate something I liked rather then just hate something I already hated. Atleast then I would have gotten some small satisfaction out of existence.

Anyone else find it kind of amazing that we manage to get so much interesting story, plots and analysis from stuff stemming from the Prequels while the Sequels have basically given us nothing. Ironic given how much people hated the Prequels way back when.
Party because now the gen that grew up with and liked the prequels have a voice, also partly because the prequel era has so much development potential. For all the faults of the films the world building was the best of the 3 trilogies by far
Fans who were 10-20 years old when the original trilogy was released regarded the prequels with just as much disdain as the fans who were 10-20 years when the prequels were released regard the sequels.
In time, the sequels will come to be admired by the current generation of 10-20 year olds, provided their opinions are not tainted by older fans of the other trilogies.
I think the B1 battle droids could react with fear was part of a self-preservation instinct built into their programming.

In the Clone Wars, Padme was thinking about the Clones. Saying they're living beings along with in her speech about the refugees, she talked about supporting the Clones in peace time. Chuchi took the baton after Padme's death.

I remember in college someone said they prepare troops for war but don’t prepare them for life outside the war.
This is such a true statement. As a veteran myself, I can attest to this. When I was getting out, I had a week of mostly reading about how to adjust to living, & readjustment to the civilian world. Talk about training trial by fire style. None of it would prepare me for what I was up against. Luckily, for many veterans, they are constantly thinking on the fly when it comes to adapting, & overcoming a situational shit-show. For those not so lucky, there’s alcoholism, drug addiction, homelessness, ‘ of course the elephant in the room no one will discuss, suicide.

If you count TCW's 2003 predeccesor, The 'Clone Wars' which was vastly different but gave the stepping stones for TCW (Ventress, Rex was supposed to be an Alpha ARC Trooper), then it could be 20 years from a certain point of view.

One point: Unlike the clones, the Jedi could leave the order or transfer to the service corps anytime they wanted other than perhaps in a battlefield.Not that there weren't factors keeping them in like financial security, psychological pressure, and risk of going dark, but they were allowed to leave. If a clone wanted to quit, like Cut Lawquane, they would face desertion charges.
And we all know what normally happens to deserters
I suggest you read the Republic Commando novels by Karen Traviss, she explores what exactly awaits clones who don’t want to fight for the Republic anymore..

'financial security'? lol jedi didn't get paid. And while we don't see it in the show, I wouldn't be surprised if Jedi would be arrested for leaving via desertion as well as the clones. By this point in history the laws had been subtly, consistently altered placing Jedi completely under the oversight of the judiciary and then Palpatine due to war time powers acts being passed in the senate. By the end of the war Palpatine legally was in control of the entire Order, which he never should have been.

Apathy is death.
The warriors created to betray their own commanders eventually got discarded by the Emperor and betrayed by the galactic masses. It's almost poetic, if you ignore how tragic this is.
I guess despite their sacrifices, the clones were ultimately seen as relics deemed obsolete and living reminders of a horrible war that made everyone more miserable. After all, clones were birthed by machines and most likely had their faces covered in the presence of civilians, which could make even humans struggle to empathize with the clones as fellow sentient beings. At least people were made aware that Stormtroopers are their fellow citizens underneath all that sterile armour.

I used to be a young boy when the Clone Wars came out
It was amazing, seeing those brave soldiers defeating Clankers, cracking jokes, shooting and driving tanks
Then I grew up a little bit and wanted to become soldier myself. Badass Special Forces. But I started to understand the politics in Clone Wars, I started to listen to what's happening in the world. How actually world works.
And then I grew up even more. If not for a fact that you're just an asset, being a soldier would be actually pretty cool. Shooting targets, blowing up stuff, parachute jumping.
But you're just a tool that can be sent to another part of the world to "defend freedom" in a land that you first have to attack before defending it, introducing invigilation before the so called freedom may come. And it never comes. Because it's all for our safety.
And no one will care if you die. You family will care. Your brothers in arms will care. Maybe someone in your country will care. Higher ups won't.
Clone Wars is an amazing series. And fucking scary when you actually realize what's happening in OUR world...

Not really. Not at least with the comparison of young adults fighting in wars vs clones. Maybe the Putin thing, but outside of Russia most places have either a volunteer age or conscription age of starting at 17 with 18 being the close second.
The Clone Troopers were highly respected and decorated in the Galactic Empire as veterans of the Stormtrooper Corps being the best of the best in EU Legends.
Even then, they were phased out but slowly and gradually for years until becoming a small minority, not instantly replaced the moment the Clone Wars ended.
The nu empire has go be cartoonishly evil.
Well they're not being rapidly phased out here either. It's stated by Chuchi in the episodes that each clone will finish their term of service (approx 10 years, 20 for the last batch of clones with at least one clone being in imperial service in the new cannon in 1ABY, albeit in his final year). But it's what happens to them after that service ends which is the issue, and that lack of a retirement plan will then be grandfathered into the stormtrooper corp.
I don't hate this version. It's very Palpatine like to discard something once its use has passed. Even Vader he was constantly trying to replace.
This is one of the outlying things that actually works well in Disney's version. The original idea of clones just naturally shifting out of deployment in favor of cheaper soldiers makes a lot more logical sense, but with Palpatine actually controlling that, it does fit his personality to just view clones as trash or leftovers after their original purpose was done. The older story still works better, because while he would certainly not care about clones, he's still a smart character and should recognize that using the already available clones who still want to keep their jobs is a lot more useful that rapidly replacing them. It also works better to use with more story, because you have more room to write certain clones as being more imperial, while others see it for what it is and want no part of the empire. That dichotomy is almost totally gone if the writing says that all clones are forcibly phased out.
Except that Palpatine was paranoid as hell , and for good reason since he'd screwed the galaxy over, so he didn't really trust that his attack dogs wouldn't turn on HIM some day. So, he basically gave them the Old Yeller treatment. Though he did keep a few around here or there to train Stormtroopers /carry out difficult assignments.
It’s videos like these that remind me why Generation Tech is one of my favorite channels on CZcams. Alan has a way of getting a message across that not only pertains to a fictional universe far far away, but one where we can look at ourselves and learn to become better.

I wonder how many of those clones joined the Rebellion as a middle finger to the Empire that discarded them. I like to think that the rebellion had some training from a defected clone to be able to stand up against the empire for as long as they did before a magical farm boy from Tatooine destroyed the first Death Star.
I remember many people thinking that using clones was a stupid creative decision on Lucas’s part. I remember RLM commenting that a story about droids fighting clones stripped the emotion from the conflict and make people not care about the story. Almost 20 years on all I can say is what hell that they know about story telling or moral ambiguity.
I love that scene with Yoda and the clones because not only did Yoda demonstrate that the Jedi were not the clones and actually treated the clones like individuals but he taught the clones themselves that big word unique individuals with unique personalities. I love a lot of the starwars Universe especially the animated stories & the clones will always be some of my favorite characters
Look at how Vets are treated when they come home. And how society treats them.
For me parts of me like others never came home. We are still with our brothers and sisters that never made it home.

what you say about young kids in the military....strikes a chord in me...after my 1st tour my 2nd unit was being stood up fresh...for weeks only E4's with combat patches and exp were in charge till our first crop of NCO's showed up....the naivete of the kids fresh from boot was astounding. Especially the ones that thought they knew it all cause they played Call of Duty and were sure they could kill another human first time out. On the battlefield though....those ones especially were the ones ppl like me had to yell at, grab, jump on, or otherwise somehow get them to move or save their ass when shit hit the fan. Those same ones were the quickest to wise up and become better soldiers of course if they survived their 1st or 2nd firefight.
Well said bro well said .... Stars wars is a hit story because deep down it's a reflection of our human society ... Like you said in the real world Young men fight in wars started by older men... Young people face the economic hardships of policies that unfairly favoured the older generation.... May we never sacrifice the ability to think critically on the alter of sentiments, tribalism ,racism or ideological differences ....
We already have as a nation.
What's even sadder is that every cloned that died from Geonosis to order 66 died in the belief that their death meant that the Republic would live and that maybe even they themselves would become citizens of said Republic. As tragic as their deaths were they were in this case the lucky ones. The clones were never gonna be the returning WW2 Style veterans with open arms and bottles of champagne waiting for them. Instead they got the Vietnam war treatment in that despite doing what they were need to do they still got the cold shoulder from citizens and it would really only be years later that they would be truly appreciated for their service. That just makes the Clones story even more tragic.
The clones definitely deserve way better than what the Empire is doing to them
They were pawns in the beginning, only to serve Palpatine's purpose of establishing a new order and eliminating the Jedi. He could care less about them or any one for that matter. The same with the droids of the confederacy.
As Achilles said in Troy: “Imagine a king who fights his own battles.” Instead kings and modern leaders sent and still send younger individuals into battle over land and resources, religious differences, or general political reasons.

One thing I don't hear people talk about enough is how the more civilization develops the slower it is at doing things. I mean actual things. Bureaucracy slows things down hella.

A "disgraced Kaminoan Senator"...... think back to Episode II, when Obi-Wan asked Dexter about the saber dart. "I'm not familiar with the system, is it in the Republic?" To which the answer was, "No, it's beyond the Outer Rim."

This is why I keep saying that the BB should not be using stun rounds against the Empire and should be using lethal force along with aiding the Rebellion not going on their pointless filler adventures. This is why I was so happy seeing Echo leave to help Rex cause that actually made sense and was a legit good reason to make a difference.
You almost got into something interesting when going over why we have to make ethics so complicated while we knew since a child what ethics are. This is because of control. The people in charge of us, wants to make ethics as complicated as possible just so that changing society or controlling a government will look more complicated than it actually is. This will make it seem out of reach for most people, and most people don't think they are smart enough and leave it to politicians, CEOs and other higher ups "because they are more educated, they know better what they are doing than me right?" While the reality is that anyone works knows what is best for their job. The higher ups likes to divide power into layers and layers and make it as difficult as possible for you as someone below them to get anything done, just to demotivate you from even trying.
I used to think the same way as you. I thought, well certainly right and wrong isn't that hard, of course everyone knows. Then I went to college and met a wider circle of people than I had previously interacted with, and I realized that it isn't that easy for some people. There are a lot of grey areas, people who have been taught wrong ideas and ethics growing up, and then there are unfortunately people out there who don't believe in ethics or care about doing the right thing, and those people only follow the rules and do ethical things because they have to to get somewhere in society. Society has and must continue to put a lot of effort into coming to a shared set of ethics and what is right, since there are a select few people who can do a lot of harm if there wasn't a system in place to discourage "wrongdoing." Hence why there are so many scholars, bureaucrats, ect. who dedicate their lives to trying to figure this stuff out. That said, it should be up to each one of us to contribute to the pool of understanding ethics, government, and deciding what is right for society, and I agree that there are people out there who want to discourage us from thinking for control purposes, and we must always reject this

Dude the prequel era is such a strong example of bad and good ethics and a lesson on not granting your government leadership too much power in a crisis. Man Lucas and the creative team had a strong vision back in the day.
Also, you did a great job making the effort to relate Star Wars and the lessons it shows to our modern world and the questions and thought processes we need to have. It is essential to make sure a consensus or idea is yours or if it is from another person you have looked into it and not just decided on a whim or social media post.

Years ago when I went to the D-Day Museum in New Orleans (now the WW2 Museum) . They had a little movie running in the front that they suggested people watch before going through the museum. I was by far the youngest person there, most were WW2 veterans. Well, they, the US military, purposely chose the youngest and smartest guys to hit the beach. If they were seasoned troops knowing they would have to hit a fortified beach, they probably would not have got on the boats, second they had to account for the tides to bring the landing craft as far in as possible. There was a storm that nearly messed up the time table. Eisenhower made the decision to ride in on the end of the storm. Those guys on the boats were all sea sick, sick as dogs, and they just wanted off those boats. One survivor was interviewed, he said the sergeant told them that only a couple of that boat load would survive the landing. Everyone one of those guys looked around and thought "OH you poor SOBs". Thinking they would be the one to survive. That guy was the one who made it. Youth and enthusiasm meets old age and treachery.
Your videos are always fantastic for the content we all love in the fictional galaxy, but you bring to life the subconscious comparisons some of us make, but can't articulate. Thanks Alan. Keep using your platform to spread great, unbiased, and morally positive messages. For the Republic. For Democracy.

as a human clone I fully appreciate the sensitive reading of clone discrimination that the 'bad batch' has made. I have often found myself 'written' off by employers as 'the same' or 'similar' to other clones. In truth, I am a human being like everyone else, with hopes and dreams of my own.

Me watching this: People being upset at how the clone had no senate representation and no say. Not realizing that in a couple of years, NO ONE would have any senate representation or say in anything.

An absolutely brilliant take as always, especially the similarities within our worldly societies that you mentioned, the need to sympathise with Frontline Soldiers, many of whom are kids and the need to engage in one's Nation's Politics.
At the end of the day, Lucas's Star Wars is a cautionary tale about the dangers of Moral and Political Apathy in Society and we indeed should take notes.
PS, this Channel is still one of the most underrated ones on CZcams and I am just really glad that I found you early and saw this community grow here in the comments section.

I tried what you did, Alan. I tried to form my own political opinion. And my only conclusion is destruction of the society.
Also, Geetsly's can tell you what droids behaved as such, Alan. Because they've been upgraded from Central Command Computer to be able to independently function on their own. But without the Tactical Droids to strategize and tell them what to do, thinking of multiple things on their own are such pains in the butts that resulting in them developing emotions and personalities.

I see it as a reflection of our society. People love the troops as long as they’re out there winning battles and seem bad ass. Let a soldier, sailor, marine, or airman come home and need help or support. A fair number of us went in at 17, not 18 or 19. This is a good call to be involved and examine ones responsibilities to be informed and make decisions and take action through voting and volunteering with organizations that support your views and goals.
These are the right questions.

As a young kid, the Clone Wars was a cool show about tanks, soldiers, and lightsaber-wielding Jedi.
As an adult (and conscripted soldier) god damn the series takes more turns than a Initial D road, and darker than midnight.
I did computer science in college. Ethics wasn't a big concern, but we had philosophy classes. I really enjoyed them, because the professor brought possible future threats, like the IA itself... With movies like Terminator and Matrix.
So, in a way, he ended up putting a very good amount of ethical debate there. Specially around things like the Asimov's laws of robotics.
Pretty fun stuff.
I imagine ChuChi probably did speak up earlier, or tried, but she was young and inexperienced and it took her until the empire to get any traction.
That's how I realized the Jedi order was no longer worthy of survival. They were quite happy for an army of sentient slaves, the clones to fight their war for them. Shut the door on your way out Jedi.

You’ve presented a very interesting version of the Tabula Rasa theory. This theory has influenced our culture for many many decades. The one obvious proof that reveals its inherent flaws is contained in your underlying theme: we have an instinctive longing for justice - whether for ourselves or for those without power, like the clones. So, to answer your question; No. We are not all blank slates waiting for the powers that be to dictate what is right and wrong. We have the ability to make those decisions (however flawed) ourselves. What we, and the members of the Galactic Republic lack is fortitude and the willingness to make personal sacrifices. Self preservation and comfort is what drove the policies regarding the clones. It was easy for the Republic to turn a blind eye to the cruelty of their policies rather than risk their own comfort.

This is one of your best videos. Easily a topic that has bothered me for some many years even before clone wars. Star Trek dealt with the moral issues of slaves and used soldiers more than once. And both star wars and star treks do bring to the forefront how disposable men and women can become by their leadership and the public apathy.
Your later touching on the matter of leadership as opposed to followers at the end over a lack of critical thinking is a topic far too huge to simplify but it always leads to strong men leadership and propaganda.

great video! i appreciate how you always showcase the importance of political messaging in star wars. it’s such an incredible franchise and it’s instilled some of my strongest values from a young age, and it’s always a little sad that people don’t see how importance the messaging of star wars is. the clones are human like you and me, and their tragedy is one of the things that’s basically guaranteed to make me cry. but it’s really not just a story, there’s monsters in the real world who are sending their incredible youth to die on some battlefield, and it makes me so fucking angry that some people will ignore that fact and try to excuse war
