  • Repairing the intermittent switch in my Fenix LD02 flashlight.
After 6 years of daily use, the switch in this flashlight started acting up. It still worked but would take multiple button presses to get it to turn on. Finally it got bad enough that I decided to try and repair it.
I found this thread on the Candle Power Forum:

That showed how to take the flashlight apart. I made a quick tool out of some scrap aluminum to hold the bottom of the flashlight and then used an adjustable wrench on the flats on the body to break the thread locking compound loose and remove the switch end. The switch assembly was pushed out and then the switch was pushed out of the metal housing.
At this point, I opted for some contact cleaner and silicone lubricant to try and restore the switch operation without tearing it apart further. That seemed to do the trick. I found you need to get just the right amount of twist on the switch end when it's screwed back into the flashlight body. Perhaps that's one reason they used thread locker there, to hold it in just the right position. If you need to fully disassemble your switch, see the thread on the Candle Power forum above.

I wonder if part of the problem was caused by intermittant/poor contact between the metal tailcap and the flashlight body. Glad you tackled the problem and your efforts paid off. See you on CPF.

I think that was the case in the CPF forum post. In my case it seemed to be mostly the switch contact. I was able to duplicate the issue with the switch part separate from the body of the light. Although there seems to be some degree of a continuity issue to the body as you need to get that switch end tightened just so to make it work.

Glad it was of interest. It's so nice to have my little EDC flashlight working again. You don't realize how handy it is until it stops working.

Funny I had issue s . Fenix light.I loved it .fenix was so nice they sent me parts. Free. Yeahh . I gave up trying to fix after a month. They forgot to tell me. Manufacture a thing. Or hire a machine shop manufacture a thing to hold a thing in a clamp. Then try 25 steps after that. That I have no idea about . Man I was close to fixing it . I still have it. That’s been over 10 years( can I send it to you. I actually have. 2 Fenix light s now that don’t work) you can make cool video. ??
