This is a common problem I find on led flashlights. I know many brands of this type sold. I have many of them, free from harbor freight always get them with coupon. hope this helps. Thanks and good luck
These little flashlights are SO inexpensive but so very useful and it is very annoying when they quit working. THANK YOU so much for this tip!! I will try this on the 2 that I have been babying, John Ag Smith!!
Thanks this is very helpful. I just took a dremel wire wheel to those threads. I noticed my switch was flickering while I pressed it, so I sprayed the exposed contact end with some electrical contact spray cleaner and cycled it on off several times while it was drying. It is shining strongly again.
Your right about bad contacts due to anodizing or oxidation. Also the button switch is so cheap. Sometimes just rolling the batteries within the casing helps.
In my experience its been that cheap button switch and i just pitch them. Those things are always unreliable. Pretty sad they cant make such a simple device work like it should without messing with it all the time.
I have 7 of these waiting for my attention. Suggestion... after de-anodizing the neg contact surface area, squirt it with a contact improving spray like DeOxit5. It will keep the repair, repaired much longer. I also put Dielectric grease on my battery terminals to stop the green Meanies (corrosion) as these are famous for living in the glovebox. Finally, I would assume one could test the switch with a continuity test to rule that out. These china-cheap wires are not soldered to milspec grade tolerances and part every so often. My $0.02 Thanks for the sandpaper trick!
many thanks for this video, i have many cheap chinese mini-flashlights and always fails of the cap and always i throw them to the trash can!! now i will repair them, very useful video!!
I just got an old LED flashlight going again. Not the kind seen here! BUT what I did is went to local Dollar store and bought a set of three small metal brushes. Steel, copper and nylon clean up brush. I brushed all screw on contacts. Also brushed both ends of the batteries. Success! _______Me old Canon digital camera needs full strength voltage to work. I brushed all contacts and the batteries. Success! On this thing too.
I have one that seems to have the loose wire at the top, but I can't get that part out to correct it. I prefer fixing an item to replacing it, but they make it pretty hard.
Hello, very informative, thanks. I have an Imalent DT35 with 4 cree xhp 35 leds (2017) and 2 of them are flikering, blinking... I recently bought it used, but it had very little use, so it is like new.... sometimes a 3rd led will start ok at 80lm setting, but then will turn off at 1000lm or 5000lm settings. The 4th one will never turn on. Do you think is there some solution for it? (by the way, with just 2 leds working the amount of light is impressive!)
So how do i fix my strobing 45 dollar Streamlight? It doesn't have that function and I have gotten 4 or 5 replacements, all ended up doing it eventually. Some did it on the tool truck, others lasted a few months.
Hey my flashlight broke when i decided to clean the len of the flashlight but wiping it with a dry cloth and after i wiped it it BROKE, i tried to use some metal part to see if the cap of the flashlight is faulty but it's not, help me.
I second the Perfect video comment. In my case, the little wire on the LED asm wasn't there. Apparently would still work through one or more solder joints which tented to touch the housing. Soldered a 30gauge wire and all is good. Again, perfect video!
Well I did what U did. I sanded everywhere U said & 1 worked, but only if I didn't tighten it down. As some as I tightened the top it would go out. The smaller cheap led light flashlight still didn't work no matter what I tried. I think they r the $1.00 or maybe $3.00 led flashlights. so how can I tighten down the top & keep the light on?? It only works if the top is loose. it is a bit bigger than the other one not working, but still cheap. led flashlight.. Do U know why it works when the top is loose, but not when it is tightened down as it was made to do? I know, I know it is a cheap ass led flashlight, but I just like to fix things & put them back into circulation. Any ideas what else I might do to get the 1 that is working to let me tighten down the end so it doesn't fall off?? Thanks for this video too.
You can use 1 x 18500 Liion battery with some tape around it to make it fit a little better and never buy AAA batteries again. Plus its much brighter !! Just make sure you buy a Protected battery.
Wow you also use an inexpensive film camera for recording. The first 35mm shot video I've seen in years. Needs oiled tho. Maybe you could do a video on that.
The main problem in push button swithch spring and black rubber cap which alway breaks after few uses! Switch sprin snd cap is alway bad in these batteries! Don't buy them. West of money!👎👎☹
....and fill the landfills with non-biodregradable garbage. Something not work? Don't fix it, even if it's easy, just chuck it. It actually takes longer to go down and buy a new one - even if they give it to you free - than to fix this problem.
This guy described everything about these lights perfectly. Every single one has these issues.

Thank you! My children have so many of these torches that are temperamental. I can finally fix them now.
Thank you very much without this video I wouldn't have known that the negative wasn't connected
AWESOME VIDEO!! THANKS FOR TEACHING!!! I HAVE THIS MINI FLASHLIGHT IN BLUE!!! VERY SHINY AND ATTRACTIVE LOOKING!!! ALSO, VERY BRIGHT!!! RECOMMENDED

Thx! It worked for me on two flashlights. 😊
Nice, I had a free cheapo. Different design. Used 320 on it. Works now. 👍

Buy an Acebeam
I’ve looked & looked, but do all 3 batteries go n the same direction? Thanks to whoever responds. 😊
Apparently negative battery sides go on the springs, so basically 1 of them doesn't go the same direction as others, this fixed my problem.

What other single battery can replace these AAA batteries?

How to fix da botton side from inside of object..the inner of botton side
Thank you almost threw away a $40 flashlight :D
I wonder how the cap can be taken apart on these.
Well I did what U did. I sanded everywhere U said & 1 worked, but only if I didn't tighten it down. As some as I tightened the top it would go out.

thank your brother
So how did you knock out the LED assy without busting it?
Makes you wonder hey.

Why no info/video of how you opened light end of red flashlight ?
just push from the other end
Wow you also use an inexpensive film camera for recording. The first 35mm shot video I've seen in years. Needs oiled tho. Maybe you could do a video on that.
Sounds like. But it really a air compressor running in back ground. Sure quality about as good.
The bulb assembly must be pushed in so it touches a ridge in the tube. This how the assembly makes electrical contact with the tube.
I have one and I can’t even get to the battery compartment. I’ve tried using pillars. It won’t budge.
Buy 2 vice grips
everytime i press on my button it dont work so i have to press where it shines from
Didn't work for me. Maybe I didn't sand it enough.
My button got stuck what to do
CAN YOU REPLY THE STEPS
my flashlights often die because of leaky batteries...
Welp mine is stuck shut lol

CRAP
Spend a dollar and buy a new one...

It actually takes longer to go down and buy a new one - even if they give it to you free - than to fix this problem.
