    I was once a welder helper. There are those welders , who are grumpy , or as-wholes. The welder that I had to work with was one of them. The moment he started yelling at me or calling me names , I had to stop him real quick and let him know what’s up because there was going to be problems. Everything turned out good and became good friends .

    A good work ethic (go getter) makes up for a lot of in experience . If you are always on your cell phone stay home . If you aren't asking questions you are not learning . Always be thinking what next . You are also constantly looking out for yours and the welders safety .when a welders helmet is down his view is limited to a 2x4 outlook . hahahaha if a welders grumpy it's because of eye strain -----2x4 out look . hahaha always keep reminding your welder to blink -----eye strain ---hahaha keep up the good work Austin

    Man, I watched a few of your videos and I like your attitude. I have a few buddies that are pipeline welders and they always complain about their helpers. I use your same methods for greenhorns in my shops for both organic and contractors. I run two avionics shops for the Navy but work ethics are the same. Notes and questions are my main requirements. Ya we all show up late here and there but I would rather that than someone on time every day that doesn't know what they are doing. Great vids man. Subd for sure.

    Hey Austin big thank you brother to a welder that's up and coming trying to figure out what angle I can approach this from and I believe with no experience if all I wanna do is weld get my experience then branch off to become an independent welder who markets himself the best way to do this would be through Pipefitting. Now I would love to be in a fabrication shop but it seems that they all require some previous experience.

      Safety first. Protect your EYES, wear safety glasses. Protect your EARS, wear hearing protection. Protect your HANDS, wear appropriate gloves. Protect your Feet, wear safety toes boots/shoes. Protect your SKIN, long sleeve shirt and pants. Protect your HAIR, wear a cap. So you do not wind up like me and others who grew up in a culture were safety was not taught. My hearing has suffered,but now I'm careful to wear safety gear. Almost forgot protect your lungs work in a well vented area or use a respirator.

But the company was small, the guys already had their perfect way of doin shit and every little thing I did just made ALL of them mad. I haven’t welded since cus I thoroughly gave up on the subject altogether.

    My dads military circle when I was a kid they always told me “if your gonna F--& up, you might as well F+=/ up impressively”. Now my parents years ago I always heard them complaining about parents don’t teach the kids how to fail anymore. It took me years to figure that out. Because as a kid im thinking why do you wanna fail. But it’s because you will fail no doubt so you need to be taught how to quickly recover and it be a non issue.

    I have a question for you. So I'm goin to be attending TSTC Waco for Pipe welding and I needed to know some stuff I have been hearing. I hear that a lot of companies wont pay you overtime because they treat your employment as just "contracting" so they dont have to pay you time and a half. And also, I want to weld my butt off so I may have land and a cattle ranch someday. If you put in a lot of work, will welding provide enough money for me to put away towards land and starting my dreams? I know God has a plan for me and He wont keep me from my goals, but I just need to know what I am lookin at so I can find the best way to make my ranch happen

      The first thing to do is go on the 798 website and fill out an application. Then you might call the business agents every once in a while to visit with them. It’s hard to get in and they don’t need anyone right at the moment but don’t let that stop you from socializing and introducing yourself to people.

    • @arosswelding
      @arosswelding  Před 5 lety +4

      The mind is a powerful thing. To me, the mind should be top priority as far as self care. I would say focus on what fulfills you personally. Work on what you absolutely love and enjoy doing. Focus on today. Try not to get flooded with tomorrow’s issues. I’m prob not the best person to ask but I wanted to reply. I hope this helps.

    • @brianf.palmer4875
      @brianf.palmer4875 Před 4 lety

      Austin gave some good advice and I'd like to offer a couple of things that might help. I've found after 30+ years of welding, you better like who your in that hood with because thats where you're going to spend most of your time and what I mean by that is, you have a lot of time to think so try to keep it positive and focus on getting better every day. The other thing is that sure you're going to come across tasks or events that just seem like a huge mountain with no way around but don't focus on that. Take that overwhelming feeling you have and break it down into manageable pieces. I'll give you an example and then I'll be quiet. A few years back I had double knee replacement and in less than a year I took a job welding frac trailers. Loved the job, sometimes picky but that only made me a better welder, but it was 12 hour days and 8 on Saturday. At that time, 12 hours of standing and welding was huge. To manage that in my mind I had to break the day into sections. Starting at 6, I just focused on getting to first break (9), then just focused on getting to lunch. After lunch, the 2pm break was my next goal, then 4pm, then cleanup and go home at 630. The mind is powerful like Austin said, just try to give it things to think about in portions it can handle. Just like eating an elephant, nobody can eat it whole but you can eat it one bite at a time.
