I want to be your in-between guy. Your friend and first "in," on your way to making rig welding or pipeline welding your career. You know how to weld. Now, you just need the secrets.
Hi, I'm Austin. A family man, rig welder, and pipeliner. Eleven years ago I didn't know squat about pipeline and what it took to be a pipeline welder. Since then I have learned how to not only live this lifestyle but how to succeed in it. Here I will teach you what I know in hopes that it will save you a lot of time, money, and hardship.
I believe truly finding success in this industry means you have to learn not only your skill, but how to make the lifestyle work for you and your family. No more going in blind and learning the hard way. I will lay it all out for you ahead of time so you will feel prepared and educated.

Concrete Work to Pipeline Welding By 21 Years Old
Teaching myself stick, and i've been practicing with 6013....tried 7018 today and I ruined probably 10 rods trying to get an arc. Damn thing just wanted to stick.
Do it young to is key
I broke a job wasted 8 years in my teens to 20s I cried , old bosses were awsome understand just guys around guys get it sometimes and I still feal like a man no shame
I learned from a stelco contractor that rebuilt there equipment, if you get a chance to apprentice under a old timer take it ,don't make mistakes in life I did
I used to fix busted snow plows after I was done plowing I regret not pushing harder to build a business I did it for 20 cash a hour and it would have been great lol I love curbs and my Onan Miller stick bobcat
need a pair of dice and a large welding shirt in the store
Hypertherm makes a little plasma with its own air compressor built in. It would be perfect for what you do. Your welder should power it I think. Check 'em out, come on. Keep keeping on my friend ✌️
Stop doing what? A weird face? I think it's only you bud
Yes, I clean everything, and comfortability is a must. 20+ yrs as a boilermaker. Great video.
Waited on welds to be made a couple times last year on mid Michigan 36” line operating on a HDD pull working nights. Didn’t bother me any kick back and enjoy a break, eat a sandwich or 2, nice to have a breather for once. Pipe hung up 300’ into the pull twice and with the way the row was it had to be spliced during the pull so that weld got cut and remade a few times
Thank you for such awesome videos! I have to say you definitely have the best attitude and love your job!! I have been assembling a small machine shop to support my CZcams channel that will start with the building of a 1928 Morgan/MG special race car. I am will be specializing in pre WWI race cars and fabrication. till recovering from getting hit on my 1957 Harley while I was riding to work. I am almost back on my feet and I have been binging on your videos.
How did you make your shade tree stand ?
I've welded with one, but I wouldn't trade my Pro 300 for one. It's nice to be able to run any power tools I want, plus the diesel means I can literally weld for days without having to refuel. The nicest thing about the Pro 300 is I can hook a little inverter welder to it and run two guys at once off the same machine.
"what i would do different" thats what im gonna be asking myself a lot more from now on
That Weld is extremely clean & Tidy. Thank you
Hi, loving your content! Which type of rod would you recommend to use for a root pass on pipes if 6010/6011 not available at all (for example, in Europe)?
Why can't we get the 814-4235 here? And in a steel toe? I love t e brown 8"upper and the black wedge sole
You don't have time to file the end of the half rods if your trying to meet deadlines and tapping hard enough to break through the re-solidified flux will like shatter the virgin coat.
12:00 Just letting you know you can run a plasma cutter off oxygen vs. air compressor. It is a cleaner cut, too.
I bought just a cheap amazing reboot plasma for $400. I think it cuts as good as the hypertherm for smaller material.
You have no idea how glad I am you posted this I have to do this same job tomorrow. Thanks bro!
I have one at work. It died recently, I think. I haven't had time to diagnose it yet.
My machine at home is the older version with a tap switch instead of the digital voltage. Separate wire feeder. I plan on modding the wire feeder to add pre and post flow so it will run more like a 252. It uses the same transformer as a 252. Welds great with a Bernard gun.
Great work I think I'd just cut a hole in the larger pipe myself, saves alot of time
You killed the blade by having it buried. Should have on been set at 1 inch.
So this is what I get when I click on random stuff to confuse the algorithm 😊
Glad I'm not the only one that had trouble with 6013. I built a mounting bracket for my swamp cooler last week and ran out of gas on Sunday. I borrowed the neighbors stick welder thinking I could probably get er did, even though I've never run a stick in my life. Inwas mig welding with the best in a couple hours, granted I had some good guidance. I could not run 6013 for the life of me. Asked if he had any other rod I could try. 6011 ran like a dream. I had best luck with flat and downhill. No weaves l, just straight welds
Hi Austin, did you try going up a gear and down on the volts to stiffen the puddle?
Ahh subway. The restaurant where every sandwich taste exactly the same regardless of the ingredients on it. How do they do it?
Clean metal also
Just wondering if you were ever go back to pipeline welding.
8-5 .?? That's office hrs. To pay the bills and have a life in the UK, quite normal for a 10 he working day plus Saturday..That was as 10 yrs ago, no idea what the guys have to put down now.. But if you put the effort in, you get the reward..miss those days tho.
F. eueope,we do better from Canada saved your ass 2 god times
I am changing career paths, but when is it too old to start in this trade I’ve been thinking of going to my local ironworks start an apprenticeship but 43 yrs old 😅
get a wire feeder , stick way to slow
I can really feel the atmosphere 🤩
I'm a lefty. I always felt like grinding on the left was a left hand dominant thing. So, it's definitely the same.
My service truck is a single cab but if I had to buy my own service truck I'd buy a crew cab so my kids could tag along lol
Practiced 4G 1" plate tests today. Lost count on how many passes went in each weld but it was a lot. My shoulder is tired. Need to find a more comfortable position for overhead.
I can strike an arc with 6010 6011 very easy 7018, not so much. If I'm doing a bunch of tacks, I'm grabbing 6011 first
I always loved hearing the welder rev up. Sweet Music.
I've welded for some Tacos, and I've also welded for a haircut
Hey guy, before doing your video, you should watch "The Container Guy." He would make you look a lot smarter in your own video. You could probably pick up a lot more content for what you do.
Austin thank you for this great information. Greatly appreciated.
Just like those 2 bottles of oxygen, that stuff is key for flavor! Totally agree, way better out of a mug. I've gotten good at turning my right arm into an independent suspension for a classic mug while driving. Thanks for these videos and sharing all the knowledge you've gained. I start school in the fall!
🤣 I love it! I can totally relate to that independent suspension. That is just too great. And that is exciting that you start school soon!
Nice set up brother. But here in Canada everything you do, you have to think about winter. The jack stands you have for example, in the winter it won’t come out until you sledge hammer all the ice off of it. Then you have to worry about the MTO. They pull you over give you a warning first time then next time $1000 ticket.
I advise you to clean the weld after each pass when capping the hole, but make sure it cool before cleaning. This make your weld easier to accept pervious pass and reduce the porosity after grinding the weld.
I have just applied and visited the American welding laboratories, very excited and ready to learn from some of the best!
If you're going to make conduit then wire and plumb it for water and electricity
Very very good video Austin, great information and easily understood. Thanks for sharing with everyone. Fred.
I love the “coffee” part. You got yourself a new subscriber
Thank you! We greatly appreciate your support!
Who cares
Edit That turn was clean* i couldn't hould a straight line that well need more practice
