I love my Thorogoods. You can definitley get a couple years out of them, and more if you resole them. I prefer the heritage, non-waterproof style beacuse they don't have a liner and are less hot/easier to break in. If you don't need the steel toe, the non-safety toe feels considerably lighter. Thorogood also makes a new slip on, but my feet are too narrow to use them. The only boot I've found that's a little better quality (but harder to break in) is the White's Perry or Red Wing Heritage moc toe, which are both considerably pricier.

Hello Austin I am a locksmith in Europe, I almost never weld, a little TIG for manufacturing and a little arc (6013 only) for distributions on gates or guardrails. I don't intend to become a Pipeline Welder but your mindset helps me do a better job and learn something new every day and have higher demands in my job. Thank you very much for sharing all this knowledge around the world. Simon from France

I get that sometimes it’s maybe ok I guess to go downhill on some welds but looking at this I would think of nothing else but uphill , I mean maybe if it was not needed to be very strong maybe a 6010 downhill root but uphill 701the rest but I’m also a certified structural welder with stick so idk crazy to me to think of people working out there that get good jobs but don’t know the right way to do things because just looking at it I would first instinct think ok 7018 root with a 2 bead cap or whatever but never 7018 downhill that would be more of a mess and harder to deal with then just going uphill anyway so I’m happy you got out there and did it right much respect

Learning and experiences will take you to new levels. Never be afraid to register for school or university. I wasn't college material, but I applied. I was a 1988 VICA champion welder, a few years later, a tool and diemaker. I returned to school and now a dentist. Your skills can only build you!! Apply them!!

Ya I was pretty disparaged about trades when I got my welding cert. couldnt get a job, then the jobs I land a couple of years ago paid less than McDonalds. I was really hoping to raise a family on trade work but the pay is so low, I got job recently that I had to drive 1.5 hrs to the jobsite which they paid milage but it was $18 hr (the "new" average with inflation for manufacturing) but they said they wouldnt pay milage anymore so I left. My last trade job before that was as a machinist but it paid $13 an hour a couple of years ago. I am done with trades now, hopefully I can become a programmer and actually make something that isnt 50 hrs a week min. that isnt paying bottom wage.

Hey Austin, at the moment I do HVAC full time right, just trying to get my feet in the door doing welding, but anyways I use silicone almost every day and as silly as it sounds, if you want a really nice solid bead of silicone without it sticking to you, spit on your finger or just get your finger wet, idk how but it doesn’t stick to your finger when it wet, it blew my mind when I found that out but it’s a nice trick to have.😅
