I started at 68 during Covid using your course, it was so easy to be motivated because it was broken down so simply, I just took it a step at a time, now 3 years later I can play some intermediate pieces and don't sound horrendous! thank you for all your videos.
I started your course at the beginning of 2023. I am 52. I had never before learned to read music. I absolutely love the violin. I am currently struggling through songbook 1. I know I have improved, but I am very hard on myself and get frustrated that I’m not improving faster. I try to play an hour, but I have a lot of shoulder pain when I play. It’s a big part of my frustration.
I am 70 and just started learning at the beginning of the year. Crazy eh? I feel like I'm on a 1000 mile journey and if I'm lucky I stumble a few inches forward each week.
i'm 73 and have just started to learn to play the violin and as long as the neighbours don't kill me i will learn!
My mom wanted me to learn the violin as a kid but I had no interest at the time. I became very interested in the violin at around 17 but thought that I had missed the boat on it. It’s been consistently one of my bigger regrets. My fiancé just surprised me with an electric violin with headphones (we live in an apartment and would prefer the neighbors not hate us). I found your videos last night and actually feel quite hopeful and excited.
I'm 61, and the first time I picked a violin up was January this year (2023). That's also when I started my first lesson. I have a lovely teacher, she's fantastic and as the patience of a saint. I try and fit in one lesson a week if possible and practice as often as I can at home, and I absolutely love it.
It is a hard instrument to learn, but if you're willing to learn, then you've got a good starting platform and can only improve from there.
At the moment, I'm going through a Bouncing Bow problem (another topic al together) but I know I'll get past it with practice and patience.
It's a great instrument to learn.
Thank you! I totally agree with you, I really am too hard on myself sometimes. I record my progress and when I go back a week or to in my recordings, I can't help but cringe a little and then I need to remind myself that I will get better and that I shouldn't take it to serious.
The other three videos in your information list are showing up as not available. Can you assemble these "...as an adult" videos into a playlist please.
And thank you for this one!
1. I for one never learned how to read music, so I am absolutely struggling at the start of second finger notes - I'm on my third week on the second finger!
2. I use an app that tells me when I'm on or off the note, and even when I'm on the spot - my cheap (all I can afford) violin has absolutely no resonance.
Do you have any ideas of what factors contribute to someone finding it 'easy' or harder to learn violin?
