How to Make Your Transmission Shift Faster (K-Tuned)

In this video, I make my transmission shift fast!! So my OEM clutch system, is designed to not allow fast shifts, to allow the transmission to shift ‘smoothly’. It has a built in delay orifice where it slows down the speed of the fluid going to the slave cylinder, which will restrict shift times. So by upgrading the master cylinder, the line going to the slave, and the clutch slave cylinder, we can make shifting a lot faster.
If your car doesn’t have this problem, you are very lucky, however a lot of smaller non-sports cars might have this issue. So you will notice that your transmission will prevent you from shifting when you get into the high RPMs. I noticed this a lot on my car when I rev the engine out to over 5500 rpm’s. So if I was in a race and I want to redline my gears, I would have to wait about half a second between shifts to allow the engine’s RPMS’s to come down. With the K-Tuned goodies, I don’t have that problem any more.
These are the parts that I used from K-Tuned to get all of this to work.
KTD-CLK-RSX = Master Cylinder & Clutch Line Kit
KTD-CLK-KSS = K-Series Slave Cylinder
If you have any questions about the K-Tuned kits, send an email to sales@ktuned.com. Sean and his team will be happy to help you out, just like how he took care of me!!

You shouldve made a footage comparison of before and after the mod. So we could see the delay on the cluster. Wouldve been nice
quick correction, brake fluid doesn't absorb air, its absorbs moister from the air.
I am very impressed with your progress since you started your videos. I think your doing a great job young man. Give yourself a round of applause.
Thanks buddy :) Thanks for the kind words!!
been waiting for this for a long time, my slave cylinder brake down on me when shifting from 2 to 3rd and the pedal dropped on the floor and the car was rolling in 3rd gear, good thing i was in the city and not far away from home, driving without a clutch and shifting gears in certain rpm
Good video. The reason you don't use old brake fluid isn't because it absorbs air and lets air into the system. It's due to the fact that brake fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb water, when you press your brakes the fluid is compressed and allows pistons etc to move, water doesn't compress and will cause spongy pedals, corrosion etc. that is the main reason brake fluid is replaced every 2 years on cars, as that's how long it can absorb water for and still be useable. You can use a hydrometer to check this, anything more than 4% must be changed immediately. Imo anything over 1% should be changed soon. Just my 2 cents mate.
Actually it's not cause brake fluid can be compressed and water can't be. They both can't be compressed, brke fluid and water. Why you should be concerned by having water in brake fluid is because it lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid and as such it can cause brake failure. That's the only reason. Not because you can't compress water, cause you can't compress brake fluid either. It would be rather pointless to have a fluid in the master that can be compressed, THAT would give you a spongy brake and no the other way around.
For example, air is compressible and gives you the spongy feel. Water alone wouldn't do that until it boils and your brakes fail completely.
The k tuned slave lasted me 2 years and had to replace it...I daily drive my car and it just went pfff on me lol. The master slave is still working awesome though. Just feel played cause the kit was 250...but the NAPA slave feels soooo much better. Along with my stage 1 Exedy clutch and light weight fly wheel
Because ktuned uses dorman parts.
7:00 clutch bleeding and finger bleeding
Just did the conversion beacause my cmc was sqeeking and leeking. So i update it with ktuned cmc slave andfelxstainless line.
Improvements is the right word quicker shift and better clutch pedal feel. But you need to be ready do push the rest of your mechanics beacuse i give you the edge to drive(shift harder & quicker). Installation was a breeze and bleeding was not a issue with a pressure bleeding system. Hope this help you choose your next cmc. By the way the tutorials is outstanding...
Glad you liked it buddy! :)
I hope your system works just as nice as mine!! :D
No problem just wanted you to keep progressing with truthful positive encouragement.
Milan. Now you need to do mine for my accord lol i hate the damn delay...
Wanna say thank you! I just replaced the CMC on my FA5 to the Hybrid Racing one. I didn't do the slave like you did either but this video helped out a lot!!!! The cars are literally the same. Difference between the too is the location of things but it's literally the same in my car. This mod is night and day and I recommend it to anyone! Clutch is a thousand times more responsive now
Ricardo Cardona so this got rid of your high rev shifting delay? same out come without the slave cylinder?
YES!!! I did the CMC and i also got the MTEC shifter spring. that tightened everything up and its a solid shift. Im gonna do the slave cylinder in a couple of days. i just figured its $70. so why not lmao
Ricardo Cardona lol you could have adjusted it yourself the CMC an removed the cdv out of.the slave cylinder for free.....an got the exact same results ...
FOR FREE!!
wait...so you changed whatever the CMC hybrid racing came with....with the oem one?
Son and I did install on rxs today. Really not bad took about 3 hrs. Shifts soo much better.highly recomend the k tune swap.
I'm glad it helped your car out!! It makes a world of a difference
Balancing the weight from front to rear is a great start for the Accord's.
He needs to make shirt's that says will work for part's. Seriously though the route he is on is really good because when he or anyone else is ready to upgrade to an 3.7,3.5, or last but not least a 2997cc 3.0 liter engine. Check out Evans V6 tuning. He is got a great setup for a naturally aspirated engine. I myself have been playing around with a 3.0 and been slept on and woke up alot of turbo 4 cylinder's with little tricks here and there and never lost reliability or many run's against whoever. For pennies on the dollar is the best part. Plus I was really surprised because I have always been building American car's until my girl pulled up with her Accord EXL. The Accord is a safe car to put power into because the crash rating is incredibly safe. Safety 1st is a must. The 3+ liter and suspension is a very necessity for the Accord to compensate the heavy side of these car's but they are great and fun with a fat slice of safety.
Upgrade?
That power wire exposed like that is waiting for disaster. Great walk through video.
Bro your vids are always the best , super clear on what to do and steps to take 🔥
thats the first thing you do to a Honda. its crazy that you did other small mods and forgot about this one
They also say you can use automatic transmission fluid for power steering fluid but I wouldn't suggest that. I personally always put DOT 5 synthetic brake fluid because it has a much higher boiling point but never mix with regular DOT 3 which is not synthetic and you would normally upgrade to DOT 5 when you upgrade to stainless steel braided brake lines which is highly recommended. The brake feel is so much better and predictable and consistent with no fade or squishy feel. Even for daily driving it is a huge difference you would never want to drive with rubber brake hoses. Especially on motorcycles.
Could have saved some money by just buying a clutch master cylinder from a 03 civic ex without the delay valve, the slave cylinder doesn't have any kinda delay valve it's just the master cylinder
You should have shown fellow CZcams's, the difference we drive with OEM slave and K tuned drive difference on the street. But, still a good video.
you should reconcedering the x battery connection dude . the + wire might touch a part of the body and shorts the charge . get it sealed or hooked to a safe location . informative video btw . keep it up .
Hey man, I just made a video installing the ktuned cmc and it fixed all my problems. I didn't take the time in my video to explain how to install the kit so i will be adding a link to your video in my description. by the way great video I enjoyed the information.
I don't think it's air that gets trapped in an open can of brake fluid. It's moisture aka. water, and it makes the boiling point much lower, than the specified for that fluid. So this doesn't really matter for the clutch, however it matters for the brakes. (also moisture -> rust so this might be a concern too.) Correct me if i'm wrong... :)
Both air and moisture can be problems with the braking/clutch system. They both work hand in hand, so with air, there is moisture, and with moisture, there is air. The moral of the story is keep your brake fluid bottles closed when you're done with it :)
Yes, but you bleed the air, that's why there's the bleeding procedure.. The brake fluid does not absorb air, hey, it would look like soda with bubbles... :) But the point is the same, close the bottles properly (but I can't imagine someone leaving half full bottles open anyway :D)
Keep up the good work man! :)
Hey great video as always. I would love for you to show a video of a short shifter for the accord.?
I have an 12 accord 4dr 5speed and I already did your big brakes upgrade, thanks for that I love them.
lol I went through 2 k tuned clutch slave cylinders in 8 months. Oem is the way to go on the slave cylinder. I have their clutch master cylinder and no complains on that so far
Christian Garcia, with the k tuned Master cylinder plus oem slave, do you notice faster shifting?
Well explained..Thanks for taking the time to make the video.
I just realised I watched the whole video and I own a VW.. I do love your videos though!
ThatGuyNamedScott. C f you i dont even own a car 😂
Abslg I own a MX5, Hyundai and VW haha. Track, work and daily!
Why don't you use the same car for work and daily and save money?
BlacksterFX carry tools in my work Hyundai (free insurance is good as I'm only 18) rather not mess up my VW!
I think the oem slave module feels much better.. The Ktuned upgrade without the restrictor is just too fast. I went back to the OEM after a few weeks of trying to get comfortable with the Ktuned slave module. Maybe it will work better for some of you. Its just not right for me.
you should really tape up that battery positive cable up before it shorts to the body of the car
i'm pretty sure the ''restriction'' is there to take the pressure of the oil higher, as fluids can't be compressed, so they build up pressure.. I can't think of why would a manufacturer want to make you shift slower, surely they can't make me stop speeding with this..
The Weird part is that the regular EM2 Civic (which is on the same platform as this car) does not have the restriction in the CMC.
I was wondering why you were shifting like my grandmother. Waiting for a new track day video to see the difference :P
:D it'll come!!
thanks for this video, all this time i though i was messing up my shifts somehow. getting this for my ep3 asap
Yeah they're very good upgrade for the EP3 as well :) cheers buddy!!
Great video..great explanation 👍do you recommend updating the clutch before adding any tune to your car?
Awesome freaking video 🙌🏻🙏🏻🔥
I've gotta do this, hopefully it helps with 1st to 2nd in my 8th gen, I've grinded it twice so far when trying to shift at high RPM. Really hope that it's not my synchros/gear sleeve.
@_v.ha did it fix the grind between 1st and 2nd
@@Nikko-zi3ti bruh we both have the same issue i can’t put my car into any gear consistently and it’s really sticky. i’m changing them today
nice video! Oakville has great roads
Great video man!, keep up the awesome content.
What. That means your muffler bearing is going bad. Or you need to grease both sides of your drum on the drum brake assembly.
Thank you for this Video Bro!
Hey Milan, great videos. Could you make a video on removing salt from carpet?
I am in NY so I can advise you if you want via telephone or email. Keep up the great work young man.
brake fluid absorbes moisture, not air. it is not good to let it sit open that is true. it will give you brake fluid with a lower boiling point.
Nice video and great job body, one of the best video about this, i have acura tl 2006 base 3.2 how can order all the items , slave ,master and the line , ..! Can you tell me please
Great video for rookies , ideology on point
I realize this is an older video, did you bench bleed the master cylinder prior to install?
Again great content man!
No clip of u actually shifting lol
Milan. Now you need to do mine for my accord lol i hate the damn delay...
Lets do it ;)
When and where? I'll be there
Great video, how long will it take to gravity feed bleed a master and slave cylinder in a honda civic? Is the gravity fill the best way to do it? Thanks
yea that helps a lot
Can you get a traipod or a gopro with a head mount or chest mount so we could watch you do the work? Im not saying your instruction is not clear. But i just like to watch the actual work being done as it is more satisfying... Just a little sugesstion.
You're doing a great job as always! but I will have to advice people. This kit is junk, they tend to fail at around 5K-10K miles. My Ktuned CMC failed @ 5K miles, then the Slave @ 7K miles. I am not the only one, I've had 2-3 friends too that had the same experience. Search in google and you'll find lots of people with the same issues. Ktuned CMC + Slave kit is great only when it works, if you are looking for something that last more than a oil change then do not get this... you'll be wasting your money!
Test drive video please :D
The user manual says to fill the clutch reservoir between the min and max line
Damn. You had like 20k subs when I subbed to you not even that long ago.
Got a few more subs since then ;)
I'll say
milanmastracci which car option did you select to fit your Accord ? Accord doesn't show under the drop down.
thanks bro!
its a total bitch being under the dash. I had to replace the clutch & brake pedal stoppers a couple of times.
bloody knuckles!!!
Justin finger bleeding
Reason why the factory did that is to reduce the force from when you dump the clutch, put less wear on the granny's main shaft(I think greddy made something like the delay slave cyclinder)... Check your trans oil after your mod for silver shavings unless you're taking it easy but then what was the point for you to do this mod. Shift faster? Ive been using my 06 rsx's CMC with the OEM slave cyclinder on my 97 Hatch. Replacing clutch or trans rebuild.
help with my honda civic 94 i did change slave and master first one hour work fine next day hard cannot shift i have to pump it 30 times work little but if i keep the car another one hour need to do pumping again what is problem
Hola el ktuned me hace el pedal mas duro??? Yo busco que el pedal quede suave Gracias !!!!
well, noone needs the k-tuned slave cylinder for this. It's just money business. You can delete the delay valve. And there is a part number for a slave cylinder (JDM) that comes without the above named valve.
Cool video.
With the k tuned cmc do you have to use the stock push rod like with the hybrid racing kit or is it just a bolt in but using just the Clevis .. 06 si
Milan cuz did you check out the you tube video on Evan's V6 tuning? He also got great tech advice on 4 cylinder's. Just saying with the Accord's that not just you, myself and others need to go V6 J series engines because the weight of the Accord's.
@milanmastracci I went with the K-tuned CMC kit including slave. There is some squeak and I think it's on the slave, what grease do you believe is required for the end of the plunger where it mates with the fork? I tried bearing and break grease on it but no success. Also the slave was un-assembled, does the plunger entering the slave side need some sort of grease as well? Any help is greatly appreciated!
You should say adjustments for stick shift transmission
I just installed my ktuned master and slave cylinder. my black line where it hooks up on both ends were leaking. I notice where it connects it spins. and I don't think I blead it right...I need help!!
would this work for an automatic?
Give it a shot ;)
2JZ Don't know if you being serious or sarcastic
I'm only a nub trying to understand this so yeah I am serious
No. You don't have any one of the parts he is talking about. The best thing you can do is disregard this video and the a tranny cooler(it's like a mini radiator for your tranny). That will help but you need to tune your car that will also give firmer shifts. After you put the tranny cooler on then you bypass the antifreeze coolant lines that run into to the top of your tranny. Also you can run an override switch on your main electric fan to keep the tranny cool. That works best when you relocate your battery to the trunk. This way your fan has a clear path to being cool as well as more room to run a dual intake y with 2 cones.
ohhh makes sense now
good video thanks
Thanks buddy!! :)
shared and liked ur video
Could I install this on an 8th generation civic EX? They mention the SI model but I'm not sure if there would be any difference in this instance?
i have the same problem with my car but when i redline in 1st and i try to go to 2nd it grinds even though the clutch is pushed in all the way what could it be i thought maybe it was my synchros or my clutch
Mauro Beltran research cdv delete....it's the exact same procedure for 8th an 9th an manual accords.....it's a free upgrade that does the exact same thing as this 2-300$ unit
Rodolfo Munoz dont waste time its 26$ at any autoparts...people dont research these days...em1 master,ep3/rsx slave, flex line there you go...
Good vid
I'm confused. Is the clutch using the brake fluid?
Both the clutch and the brakes need to use brake fluid for the pedal operation to work. They both have separate reservoirs where they store their separate fluid, however the fluid is the same.
No. Pay attention to the video again.
+milanmastracci yeah you are shifting quicker but that delay was there for a reason... It prevents stripping of synchronising gears... Now you are DESTROYING YOUR GEARBOX BRO!!!
If you're double clutching properly like you should you shouldn't be using or even need the synchro's
If you are double clutching you are shifting waaaay slower than stock clutch cylinder was made...
could u show us u driving the car to see how u shift?
Sure :)
thanks I really appreciate it:)
@@milanmastracci wheres the video for the shifting? Thanks for the video was really detail oriented. So you just gravity bled and it worked the 1st time? Thanks for your reply
Is the fitting 17mm fitting on your slave cylinder free to spin after your clutch like is tight? Cause mine is.
Brake fluid is hygroscopic meaning it absorbs moisture and not air.
The CMC just failed on my Accord. I replaced once on a RSX Type S and it was hard as hell to get it back in. Was there ample room to get it back in easy on yours?
Maybe I didn’t get it, but what is the year of your Honda Accord?
Hi, is nice what r u doing
Can we have some videos of BMW E39 - (1996 - 2003) year
Clean!
How long is that clutch line? I want to order the kit line you but it says sold out so I'm just going to buy the master and slave and get the line somewhere else.
Where would u recommend for me to order the ktuned master cylinder kit if a 02 RSX type R???
I have an automatic transmission. I really hate automatic transmission. But I have one, and it sucks so I wanna make it faster.
How can I make my automatic transmission shift faster and be more responsive?
I really hate automatic transmission.
What camera are you using? I might start vlogging when I get my car , I'm not sure what camera to get or should I just use my GoPro hero 3+ or my iPhone se
Any body, please feel free to respond.
I'm using a Canon T5i with a few different lenses :)
Hey Milan, great video. But I was wondering if this mod makes the pedal shorter, have less travel to the floor?
Anthony Brazeau to make the clutch pedal stroke shorter i placed a rubber stopper on the floor behind the clutch.i just made the height of rubber stopper thick enough that the clutch will only depress much lower than clutch bite point
You have to adjust the clutch pedal and cmc. There’s bunch of videos on CZcams on how its done.
Any change to broke gearbox wict this fast slave cylinder when u shift on hi rpm?
I have an Acura CSx 2006 2.0 you think is the same
I have a K20A swap with a LSD trans where can i order these parts from??
Hey Mill the link is not working, i need this for my 6-6-6 sedan man. Sup
Do u have to change the line?
Never noticed any delays or problems with shifting in my GSR, at any rpm.
Brian Barnett only on newer Honda's
If you see this message in What car model / make / engine type did you installed this parts
Is that a custom intake ?
Are all the k series clutch kits the same? Can’t seem to find ours but the all look identical
Most of them will bolt up, but the problem with running a very lightweight flywheel on a K24Z engine is that you will have to turn off misfire detection if you want to drive it. What car are you looking for?
@@milanmastracci 8th gen accord…cars got 200k original slave and cmc on its way out so might as well upgrade🤷🏻♂️…now your a 8th gen guy maybe you can answer the question for me lol what would it take to put the 2nd gen tsx motor in the accord…20 extra hp and electric power steering sound amazing but I can’t find anything on it,also I can’t find any accord z3 only tsx motors
cover up that positive battery wire. You have 12 volts going to it, if a wrench touches that and grounds itself on the car.. prepare for fireworks lol
How is the cmc and slave cylinder after 2 years ?
What happens if you don't count the threads when removing/reinstalling the sensor on the clutch pedal?
I believe it changes the clutch engagement point
2006 TSX will this work on my car just the line tho
interseting mine came out all as one unit no problem.
edit: different car i think nvm. i have 07 civic si
should do some before and after on videos
Where did you order your parts? I have a Accord 03 and I want to change mine too. Please inform me where to get the parts. Thank you
Try axion industries bro they legit I believe they have accords gear
Just installed mine and now I get locked out when shifting at high rpm. I didn't remove the clutch position sensor during the install. Could that cause a lockout with hard shifting or is it possible air in the clutch line? Thanks.
Did you ever figure out why this happened?
