How to Make Your Transmission Shift Faster (K-Tuned)

    In this video, I make my transmission shift fast!! So my OEM clutch system, is designed to not allow fast shifts, to allow the transmission to shift ‘smoothly’. It has a built in delay orifice where it slows down the speed of the fluid going to the slave cylinder, which will restrict shift times. So by upgrading the master cylinder, the line going to the slave, and the clutch slave cylinder, we can make shifting a lot faster.
    If your car doesn’t have this problem, you are very lucky, however a lot of smaller non-sports cars might have this issue. So you will notice that your transmission will prevent you from shifting when you get into the high RPMs. I noticed this a lot on my car when I rev the engine out to over 5500 rpm’s. So if I was in a race and I want to redline my gears, I would have to wait about half a second between shifts to allow the engine’s RPMS’s to come down. With the K-Tuned goodies, I don’t have that problem any more.
    These are the parts that I used from K-Tuned to get all of this to work.
    KTD-CLK-RSX = Master Cylinder & Clutch Line Kit
    KTD-CLK-KSS = K-Series Slave Cylinder
    If you have any questions about the K-Tuned kits, send an email to sales@ktuned.com. Sean and his team will be happy to help you out, just like how he took care of me!!

    quick correction, brake fluid doesn't absorb air, its absorbs moister from the air.

    been waiting for this for a long time, my slave cylinder brake down on me when shifting from 2 to 3rd and the pedal dropped on the floor and the car was rolling in 3rd gear, good thing i was in the city and not far away from home, driving without a clutch and shifting gears in certain rpm

    Good video. The reason you don't use old brake fluid isn't because it absorbs air and lets air into the system. It's due to the fact that brake fluid is hydroscopic and will absorb water, when you press your brakes the fluid is compressed and allows pistons etc to move, water doesn't compress and will cause spongy pedals, corrosion etc. that is the main reason brake fluid is replaced every 2 years on cars, as that's how long it can absorb water for and still be useable. You can use a hydrometer to check this, anything more than 4% must be changed immediately. Imo anything over 1% should be changed soon. Just my 2 cents mate.

    • @atraxr603
      @atraxr603 Před 7 lety +3

      Actually it's not cause brake fluid can be compressed and water can't be. They both can't be compressed, brke fluid and water. Why you should be concerned by having water in brake fluid is because it lowers the boiling point of the brake fluid and as such it can cause brake failure. That's the only reason. Not because you can't compress water, cause you can't compress brake fluid either. It would be rather pointless to have a fluid in the master that can be compressed, THAT would give you a spongy brake and no the other way around.
      For example, air is compressible and gives you the spongy feel. Water alone wouldn't do that until it boils and your brakes fail completely.

    Just did the conversion beacause my cmc was sqeeking and leeking. So i update it with ktuned cmc slave andfelxstainless line.
    Improvements is the right word quicker shift and better clutch pedal feel. But you need to be ready do push the rest of your mechanics beacuse i give you the edge to drive(shift harder & quicker). Installation was a breeze and bleeding was not a issue with a pressure bleeding system. Hope this help you choose your next cmc. By the way the tutorials is outstanding...

  • @vt2704

    He needs to make shirt's that says will work for part's. Seriously though the route he is on is really good because when he or anyone else is ready to upgrade to an 3.7,3.5, or last but not least a 2997cc 3.0 liter engine. Check out Evans V6 tuning. He is got a great setup for a naturally aspirated engine. I myself have been playing around with a 3.0 and been slept on and woke up alot of turbo 4 cylinder's with little tricks here and there and never lost reliability or many run's against whoever. For pennies on the dollar is the best part. Plus I was really surprised because I have always been building American car's until my girl pulled up with her Accord EXL. The Accord is a safe car to put power into because the crash rating is incredibly safe. Safety 1st is a must. The 3+ liter and suspension is a very necessity for the Accord to compensate the heavy side of these car's but they are great and fun with a fat slice of safety.

    They also say you can use automatic transmission fluid for power steering fluid but I wouldn't suggest that. I personally always put DOT 5 synthetic brake fluid because it has a much higher boiling point but never mix with regular DOT 3 which is not synthetic and you would normally upgrade to DOT 5 when you upgrade to stainless steel braided brake lines which is highly recommended. The brake feel is so much better and predictable and consistent with no fade or squishy feel. Even for daily driving it is a huge difference you would never want to drive with rubber brake hoses. Especially on motorcycles.

  • @beedee95
    @beedee95 Před 8 lety +3

    I don't think it's air that gets trapped in an open can of brake fluid. It's moisture aka. water, and it makes the boiling point much lower, than the specified for that fluid. So this doesn't really matter for the clutch, however it matters for the brakes. (also moisture -> rust so this might be a concern too.) Correct me if i'm wrong... :)

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  Před 8 lety

      Both air and moisture can be problems with the braking/clutch system. They both work hand in hand, so with air, there is moisture, and with moisture, there is air. The moral of the story is keep your brake fluid bottles closed when you're done with it :)

    • @beedee95
      @beedee95 Před 8 lety +1

      Yes, but you bleed the air, that's why there's the bleeding procedure.. The brake fluid does not absorb air, hey, it would look like soda with bubbles... :) But the point is the same, close the bottles properly (but I can't imagine someone leaving half full bottles open anyway :D)
      Keep up the good work man! :)

    i'm pretty sure the ''restriction'' is there to take the pressure of the oil higher, as fluids can't be compressed, so they build up pressure.. I can't think of why would a manufacturer want to make you shift slower, surely they can't make me stop speeding with this..

I am not the only one, I've had 2-3 friends too that had the same experience. Search in google and you'll find lots of people with the same issues. Ktuned CMC + Slave kit is great only when it works, if you are looking for something that last more than a oil change then do not get this... you'll be wasting your money!

    Reason why the factory did that is to reduce the force from when you dump the clutch, put less wear on the granny's main shaft(I think greddy made something like the delay slave cyclinder)... Check your trans oil after your mod for silver shavings unless you're taking it easy but then what was the point for you to do this mod. Shift faster? Ive been using my 06 rsx's CMC with the OEM slave cyclinder on my 97 Hatch. Replacing clutch or trans rebuild.

      No. You don't have any one of the parts he is talking about. The best thing you can do is disregard this video and the a tranny cooler(it's like a mini radiator for your tranny). That will help but you need to tune your car that will also give firmer shifts. After you put the tranny cooler on then you bypass the antifreeze coolant lines that run into to the top of your tranny. Also you can run an override switch on your main electric fan to keep the tranny cool. That works best when you relocate your battery to the trunk. This way your fan has a clear path to being cool as well as more room to run a dual intake y with 2 cones.

    I'm confused. Is the clutch using the brake fluid?

    • @milanmastracci
      @milanmastracci  Před 8 lety +5

      Both the clutch and the brakes need to use brake fluid for the pedal operation to work. They both have separate reservoirs where they store their separate fluid, however the fluid is the same.

      Anthony Brazeau to make the clutch pedal stroke shorter i placed a rubber stopper on the floor behind the clutch.i just made the height of rubber stopper thick enough that the clutch will only depress much lower than clutch bite point
