At my shop there are 2 foreman and 4 team leaders. The team leader dispatches work and does light duty diagnostic support for the 8 team members and advisors. Team leader main job is to get the work flow into the shop. Team leaders are on flat rate. The shop foreman are paid salary/hourly. The foreman do the heavy diag with rechecks, buybacks and scammers. Shop foreman also deal with shop maintenance, upkeep, training, difficult customers, schedules, employee problems...shop foreman are managers. Team leaders are techs

I would like to see video on how to deal with bad management in a shop. Been working at a tire shop for six months and have a pretty bad manager.

You mentioned that if your foreman is just putting out fires all day he needs a better crew. I can agree to some extent but for example, I work in a ford dealership with over 60 techs in total. With that many cars, techs, advisors and customers, there are many days where YES that is all he does, put out fires all day. Once you break 40-50 techs in a shop, your going to absolutely need a dedicated, no repair, foreman.

I just became a shop foreman. Was a lead tech before then. Been working at a GM dealership for a little over 10 years now. Ive been researching advice on the new role. Seems like you hit the nail on the head. I always feel guilty for taking small to medium sized jobs because I feel like I get pulled away so much throughout the day. Glad someone can relate. I'm half salary half flat rate btw. I really like to see the other guys do good and come up. I try my best to help out all techs diagnose things properly and love teaching

Every shop I’ve worked for was a free for all, just had lead techs that put all the lower guys down. No team leadership. It was real hard for me starting out.

Great video thanks brother. I can't comment on a flat rate or dealership side. I have been a Forman and it's not easy. Keep up the great work see you in the next video thanks again brother

In the dealership we had a foreman who did gravy work while we had to do most of the headache customer work. Im glad to be out of that scene.

Haha bam bam thank you Sam! We don't have a shop Forman, it's just two diag techs and two GS. I'm a part time firefighter too lol gotta rediag sometimes. I did have a good shop Forman when i worked in tires plus, he kept the work flowing, and helped out when needed. Taught me alot actually🤔 even how to do his job. I can't speak for dealerships though. Don't think I'll ever be able to. Good topic Mike 👍

One topic I'd like you to touch on is knowing your worth in the shop. The expectations you have a C, B and A tech
