  • The retirement age has come and you're not sure where you want to spend your golden days. You probably have heard that a good place to retire is South Carolina. And, that is exactly right!
In this video, I will give you the top 5 reasons why South Carolina is a good place to retire and where is a good place to retire in South Carolina.
    #1 - Mild weather
While summers in South Carolina get hot and humid, the winters are mild. The sub-tropical climate makes this place an ideal one for those ushering in the golden age. Living by the ocean may sometimes be cooler than the Piedmont region found in our Palmetto State.
    #2 - The historic cities
The cities in South Carolina have a rich history. Think of Charleston, it is very famous, rich with history, and the place where the Civil War started. Charleston is not the only city with preserved history, there are others like Beaufort and Bluffton.
    #3 - Cost of living
If you live in South Carolina, you find that it is less expensive compared to many other states. The cost of living here is ranked 27th lowest in the nation. The median home value was placed at $140,300 as of late 2016 when the U.S. median was $191,200. In some selected active adult communities, prices can be higher. For example, in the town of Hilton Head and in Greenville, SC, where the median home prices reached $191,900 as of 2016.
    #4 - Retiree benefits
If you are aged 65 and above and you are a resident of South Carolina who has lived in their house at least for a year, you can take advantage of the Homestead Tax Exemption. In this program, you are exempted from all property taxes on the first $50,000 fair market value of the primary residence you own. This exemption also applies to other properties such as those held in revocable trust. The program is also extended to surviving spouses of 50 years and above.
There are also other retiree benefits which you may qualify for such as the choice to or not to serve on state, county, or city jury duty. You can enjoy discounted admission fees charged to visit state park facilities. If you have a residency in South Carolina for at least one year, you can get free fishing and hunting licenses. In state supported education institutions, if there is space available, you can get free tuition.
#5 - The Active Adult Communities
South Carolina is spotted as one of the fastest growing active adult community places. With the big names in the business including Del Webb [www.55plushomes...], Pulte Homes [www.55plushomes...], K. Hovnanian [www.55plushomes...], and Minto Communities, this says something about South Carolina.
So, Where Is A Good Place To Retire In South Carolina? We think the Charleston Area. You can be sure you will find a home [www.55plushomes...] in areas like Charleston and Summerville, among other places across our beautiful city.
If you are asking yourself, “Should I retire in South Carolina or North Carolina?”, in our opinion you should really consider South Carolina.

Charleston is the last place to retire to in South Carolina. Over populated, poor infrastructure, terrible traffic, expensive housing. Great place to visit.

Hilton Head Islands the best by far! Lived on the island for 30 years, owned in Charleston for a number of years, graduated from USC in Columbia, etc. etc. South Carolina is a wonderful state, but Hilton Head Islands the best!

Come on. I grew up in Spartanburg. It gets down to the 20's and even upper teens in the winter time. The temperatures in the summer get into the nineties. It's a good town, but I have been in San Diego for over thirty years. I'm not about to go back.

@@glenprovenzano6956 I recently retired and I'm moving from Park Circle North Charleston to the upstate. It all depends on what you're looking for. I bought a 2009 2200 sqft house on 4+ ac and added a 16 x 20 addition, 30 x 40 metal bldg(man cave), 20 x 20 concrete patio, 6' chain link fence(over 2 ac) to keep the majority of the local animals out of my backyard and still don't have $400000 invested. About a mile and a half from a nice landing on Lake Hartwell and there always seems to be a nice breeze. Neighbor has a 100+ yard gun range and we hunt on his property. Neighbor across the road(300+ yards away) shot a nice buck from his pool deck. You can get grass-fed beef, chicken, goat, eggs, cheese, milk, veggies, and fruit locally all year long because many of the large farms around here also have huge greenhouses. Indoor farmers market every Saturday. If you like horses there are several riding stables in the area and trails. Moved here because my wife has MS and just can't take the lowcountry summers anymore. Of course I'll still be driving down to the coast to hit McClellanville for shrimp several times a year. The restaurants in the greater Charleston area can pretty much hold their own with anybody in the country and 100 mile barbeque is pretty common. There's a lot of different environments of South Carolina and you might find one you like but do your research on the flora and fauna around here. Pollen is just😝 and the mosquitoes and sand gnats are😱🔨

The rent here in south Carolina is high. From Orangeburg sc it was good to retire but now its not. And Charleston is not a good place to stay. Special the north side of Charleston. Summerville is ok but bamberg, Columbia, denmark, and etc is not the crimes here was doing better but its not and its not only sc crimes bad just mind your business and keep it moving and it will be ok.
