Great video as always Baz.
Glad to see you back Baz
blink twice if your family is being held hostage by shadow raid legends
well come back bro lovely voice to hear and listen
have some dignity with your sponsors please
I thought Baz stopped for the longest time. Glad he's back!
He was my first Historical CZcams Channel I ever checked out! Maybe 3 years now, I remember the series too Alexander's Campaign😁💯
Me too!!
@@Enward834 me three . He was my first history animated channel :)
I thought Raid was gone too lol
@@elpatronmamba2911 HistoriaCivilis was my first, BazBattles my second.
BazBattles, blink twice if your family is being held hostage by shadow raid legends
He must have blinked at least twice by now
@@freddythefrog9832 if he has blinked more than twice his family is fine.
I'd rather he takes the sponsorship every time than go another 8 months without an upload.
@@akiramasashi9317 this tbh

Hype!
Two youtube historians who I enjoy greatly for their takes and ways of explaining the past :)
What ignorance.
Two from the very best.

@@shoddyknight I wasn't replying to you.
Hearing Dan Bouds voice regularly again…all feels right with the world.
That's the name of the narrator?
@@TheZestyCar his name is in the description, and yes
A lot of the other history channels don't understand just how important a good narrator is. I enjoy Dan's voice and tone more than any of the others, even Kings & Generals doesn't have as good a narrator imho.
@@supersvane Devin is also very good, man. Invicta does not hire a professional narrator and you can feel it.
@@S3rjiu I'm not sure if I misunderstand you. But I didn't imply that the Kings & Generals narrator wasn't good. Just that its a much bigger channel and yet I feel like Dan is better. I don't watch Invicta for that very reason.
Miss your content, your channel is for sure my favorite as far as historical warfare is concerned. Hope all is well!
Words cannot describe how happy I am that this channel is back in action. One of the best military history channels for sure
So true!!!
I’m with you haha. I was so excited when I saw new videos :)
Kings and Generals is better
@@cheeminthao7819 Kings and Generals are good but Baz is better much better.
Can you recommend any other military history channels? I love Baz but sometimes need more to scratch that itch!
Never knew so much history could be represented by rectangles
Historia Civilis: Am I a joke to you?
Watch historia civilis. It will blow your mind.

Great to have you uploading regularly again. As a history teacher, your visual representations of battles are so helpful for my students!
Woah i wish my history teacher would show me this channel during the lessons. Your students are lucky to have you!
Notice when Bazbattles wasn’t posting, the world went to high hell.
I don’t have to wait another 8 months for a video? Today is a good day!
Miss you Baz!
Yours is one of the pillar history channels on youtube. History Matters, Kings and Generals, Historia Civilis, Simple History and you. Even if you won't be able to return soon, keep us updated and infomred, including on whether or not there is any way any of us can help keep the channel alive.

I spit on simple history, they're a disgrace.

Everyone: The Return Of The King!
"Emperor, being that i am your closest ally and friend im afraid i have to inform you that 10,000 roman legionnaires rebelled against you today. In some good news though, my new personal army has seen 10,000% growth in manpower in just the past 24 hours."
In good news though, Emperor, you are no longer burdened with ruling this mess of an Empire. I'm going to do this for you from now on. You're welcome.
I hope one day you chose to come back and make content such as this, I deeply appreciate your work !
I love ❤ any thing about Rome and the Roman history.
I've been missing you all so much welcome back
Seeing one of your videos after so long just made my day, thank you for the content!
God damn, i can't help but feel nostalgic. The narration, the beautiful maps and the deployment of top-notch entertainment, fascinating military history and a content that makes you wan't to throw yourself into deeper studies of every calendar
year and the surging conflicts that put immense pressure on the western part of the
roman empire. The time of the goths is near. The countdown has begun.
i havent started to watch the video yet, but snack food is ready and bazbattles just uploaded a video, 10/10, appreciate it man
Man, what took you so long? To be honest I am going through a very hard moment in my life and I just saw this new video, you drew my first smile in the entirety of two weeks. Thank you!

Finally you're back and making videos. This is one of my favorite history channels on CZcams!!!
Favorite CZcams channel of all time. Hope all is well.
Glad to see you folks back.
I'm dying to know though. For a battle like this - Circa 300 and 400 AD - how do you research this, and how reliable are the recounts and/or data?
I'm not doubting you, I'm fascinated!
I can answer this question in regard to two of the sources. Orosius does not describe this battle at all, only the capture and death of Maximus at Aquileia. In fact, he claims the opposite, that the army of Theodosius pretty much went unnoticed until they had crossed the Alps, though that should be taken with a grain of salt. He is very much idealizing Theodosius as a great christian emperor. Zosimus brings up some sort of ambush against troops of Maximus without further details. Otherwise, I know of a Panegyric written to praise Theodosius which might mention this battle, but I have not read it. Due to the nature of its form, I suspect it would lack details or very much exaggerate them. Unfortunately Ammianus stops his account at the battle of Adrianople, his very detailed accounts are unique in the 4th century.
Honestly, I doubt much can be said with any certainty on this battle (and quite a few others at this time), I do not know what later researches might have found outside these literary sources. That's why Baz gives so little details on the battle, mostly some context and then general descriptions with colorful language of things involved in pretty much any battle. The focus is more on entertainment and evoking interest, which he does great.
Many or even most classical historians tend to write about events that happened centuries before they were even born (I am looking at you, Titus Livius), so it is highly unlikely that the information presented here is 100% accurate, or even 50% accurate. Even when writing about contemporary events, period historians (or any historians, really) rarely go into detailed descriptions of troop movements on the battlefield. Battles are usually mentioned in passing or given an general overview. Best case scenario, we get the names of the officers and perhaps a slightly more detailed description of the decisive moments, but that's it. In fact, in most cases we don't even know where the battle was actually fought until someone starts digging and recovering archeological clues. Basically, many of the things we "know" about classical or medieval military history are mostly down to the power of deduction. BazBattles and other similar channels are very entertaining (I personnally enjoy them very much), and they get the general history surrounding the battle mostly right, but I wouldn't take the battle descriptions themselves at face value.
Yes, there is a lack of sources on this particular battle, in fact some historians even put it in the Vipava valley which makes a little more sense as there was a major road to rome in the valley. Emona and Sava were out of the way for Theodosius troops. There even is a legend about the Bora wind frequent in the Vipava valley giving Theodosius soldiers some advantage over their foes.
@@lukaruter You might be confusing the legend about the wind with the battle of the Frigidus, nowadays taken to be the Vipava river. That's where a ("divine") storm supposedly helped Theodosius against Eugenius and Arbogast.
@@DeutscherDummer You are absolutely right, ist a mistake, the Goth vanguard got me on this one.
So glad you're back, so glad!
Glad you're back Baz, keep up the great work!

When you think of all the Battles, the Black Plague and migrations, it's amazing that any of us survived all these millenia later to be watching this.
Love to see the new videos!
Great video ! Glad to see you're back ! :)
I'm not sure if you're interested about the story of the swiss mercenaries ? Since there the ones who inspire the Lansquenet.
I think that could be a good subject to talk about, whenever it's comming to the battle of St-Jacob on Birs river that in theory, greatly made there reputation.
Or the war against Charles the bold and all the consequences that followed.
