- Killer D'N'B and jungle sounds from two UK pioneers Fabio & Grooverider to celebrate the 75th anniversary of Windrush.
The Lab is brought to you by Mixmag & Coors and powered by Pioneer PRO AUDIO system.
June 2023 marks 75 years since the first members of the Windrush generation arrived in the UK. The impact of this migration has been incalculable, and to celebrate this legacy, Mixmag has launched an editorial series dedicated to exploring stories, issues and sounds that honour the Windrush generation and their cultural impact.
The development of UK dance music has been heavily influenced by the Windrush generation, with styles such as jungle, grime, UK funky, garage - and the concept of soundsystem-powered parties and rave culture - all traceable to soundsystem culture from the Caribbean and immigrant communities that arrived in the UK to help fill labour shortages and brought a wealth of new cultural inspirations to these shores.
Fabio & Grooverider are legendary representations of this. Both of their parents arrived from Jamaica to the UK in the 60s to work in the transport industry, with their children later forming a partnership that built on the rise to rave culture to help inspire the creation of jungle and drum ‘n’ bass. Fabio & Grooverider’s residency at Rage, which ran in Heaven in the late '80s and early '90s, is considered among the country’s most influential DJ sets, spurring on a new musical movement by speeding up styles like hardcore, breaks and hip hop in a flurry of genre-bending mixing. - Hudba

Straight up Legends
Boom set but it's the last offering that in my opinion bears the heaviest weight on influencing Jungle/ DnB 's shoulders. i remember the day when i was in the record shop in 1991 and Lenny come in delivering his track. As soon as i heard it i told him that there is a gamechanger proper and will probably get nuff rewinds tomorrow when i spin it on my early morning show when i was a Hardcore Pirate dj on Pulse FM 90.6 based in Hackney....Looking back now 32 years later i'm now 59 and whenever i hear this tune drop my face lights up with pure love n happiness...Big tune....Lemme say that one more time again to clarify it's significance...BIG CHOOOOOOON!! ❤🎶❤
Mad story that still a wicked tune today

Wow this… I randomly looked up Fabio, there was a dnb track he played on radio one years ago “Like the Sun” but I have never found it anywhere. Anyhow good to see them playing together. I was also wondering how Grooverider is doing, and here he is back in the magic combination.
This the one you’re looking for?

Are you sure it wasn't a tune by Hidden Agenda called The sun?
Not second sun by calibre?

Calibre-Savannah heat?
if one plays blade's remix of the horn 1st track, really difficult to follow that. also nice to see Fabio & Groove dancing.
Need a tracklist
That overhead view tho.......................
Похоже на old school jungle
Probably everyone in that room, apart from the DJs, did not know the first tune was a remix of a 1992 classic.
Most weren’t even born yet!
🥁 🔊 🐫❤
Do you know what it’s called?
@@muzakdeepwell there's Photek Age of Empires but I'm pretty sure it's a future cut horns 2000 I don't know who's on remix
@@muzakdeepEgyptian Empire The Horn Track remix even
It's Tim Taylor - The Horn Track (Blade Re-work 2022) 👍
Jungleeeee
Man, when he said wind rush - it took me to the real history and journey.
Caribbeans arriving in the UK (mainly London) with a lotttttaaa reggae tunes with them. Then next gen or how time played it’s part that 80s Detroit house making noise, and the more time went on the Caribbean community were vibing with the English people and the hardcore breaks stuff was rumbling under.
And u gotta remember these days were straight racist, but the Soundsystem clash culture mixed up with the acid scene and the breaks got cleaner and faster while still sampling and holding true to ragga roots, man
Music is more powerful than any political thing
1st track pls
What’s fabio’s last tune 17:20 in?
What’s that track with the Beris Hammond sample, it’s absolutely awesome @ got to bury a sound”
it’s off break’s latest album can’t remember the name off the top of my head
Anyone got a playlist?
what is that at 14:50 ??????? i need that ! !
Dons 🦁

I’m on a mission to find it too!
Tim Taylor - The Horn Track (Blade Re-work 2022 👍
@@PacManShift6c thanks!
@markmcdonnell nps, i dont think its released to the public as of yet, pretty sure its a friends only dub at this stage, i could be wrong as i wouldn't mind a copy myself for a mix on my channel. 👍
Egyptian Empire - The Horn Track (1992)
listen 2 absolute Legends in the game cant even sum up their contribution to the scene for over 30 years but what hell has happened to them, every set i see/hear their mixing is well ropey the first mix is terrible , anyone can have an off night but they just seem to have lost something
you are right that there are many mistakes, I'm just trying not to focus on it too much
Photek
19:50 gotta be critical impact?
anyone Know What the Opeining tne is ???/
Its a remix of a hardcore rave tune from 1992 called The Horn Track by Egyptian Empire.
Bet Groove hates mixing nowadays. Stood next to him on several occasions while he was mixing and he always used to have a phat spliff hanging out his mouth, No more of that!! Wonder if hes on the THC vapes nowadays. Only way to have a smoke indoors, on a plane, bus, pub, etc (sneakily obviously). I cant mix without a phat spliff myself!!!!
wouldn't it be nice not to see poxy adverts every 5 mins
I bet Gregg Broussard got no royalties from the opening track
You do realise he used samples as well in that track? Kraftwerk and James Thornton...😂
@@PacManShift6chahahaha, well said,
Groovrider one of the only og going, he's not playing with all the knobs trying to look cool coz he don't need to, he knows what musics coming too ya before even he knows it! thats mushroom talk sorry 8-)
Fabio clearly not feeling this
Legends of the Acid scene? I don't think so mate lol
They both started off playing hip hop, funk, and disco. Then they switched to house music. That was before Jungle was even a thing.
Check yourself man, Sunrise, Energy, Biology etc, lol not knowing Fab and Grooves Acid legacy, casuals😋
Lol @gazsmash do your research mate. They were playing acid way before hardcore. Clearly the comment about scrambling over roof tops went over your head!
@@louisletrekk The Pirate radio comment went over my head? yeah ok mate there where real Acid Djs back then not those that hung on coat tails. I suggest you research .
@@gazsmash Sorry my guy, but yes - you've got it twisted - it was actually a reference to Grooverider scrambling over the warehouse rooftops, sneaking into acid house raves when he was 15. I'm well versed in the history, research is not needed. Thank you for the suggestion, and I hope you have a fantastic evening fella :)
U know what is awesome bout DNB - besides everything? Its speed up T.e.C.HNo.....
Weak set. Sketchy mixing
Killer selectors and have great ear. Just spoil themselves with there dark shutoff attitude. Too late now
