I'm liking this recent resurgence of turn based JRPG titles, there's still a place for them and its not merely an obsolete way to represent action as some may believe
Ahh so this game was the reason Mask of Deception Skyrocketed in price before people realized it had very little printed copies compared to the rest of the games.
Played it on steam and loved it now im getting on playstation to show my support 🙌 😊😊
Is this a good game really? Like final fantasy X or lost odyssey? Miss those kind of games 😢
Agreed with your rant about NIS America, was used to the names of characters and phrasing of words from the anime before the translation of IMask of Deception came west. Still can’t wait to get the game!
Keep in mind that the translation of the original anime was done by a group that didn't really know anything about the setting and was doing their best with zero context. Aquaplus' earliest official translations of character names and terms come from AquaPazza, and they've been consistent since then.
Many of the character and place names in the series aren't *supposed* to look like Japanese names romanized using Hepburn-shiki, because they're not Japanese names, and the cultural distinction is important.
Also worth noting that NISA was not involved in the translation of this game -- in fact, the only Utawarerumono game they actually translated was Prelude to the Fallen.

This game looks awesome!! Love some good old school turn-based JRPGS. I appreciated that about Dragon Quest 11, and I know I'll appreciate it about this too.

I'm fully with you about that translation issues. Especially if there's no English dub they should keep the translation closer to the Japanese. Though I'd like to mention that there really are some single words in Japanese language that actually need translate to a full sentence in English. There often are more elegant ways to do so for sure than having a whole sentence.
Finished Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception about two year ago and then started Mask of Truth. I have yet to finish Mask of Truth yet I'm looking forward to playing Monochrone Mobius soon. Thanks for the helpful review
According to the Wiki, the game takes place before Mask of Deception. so it takes place after Prelude to the Fallen
Yesterday I thought about this game and I had my doubts, thanks to you I decided to buy it. So now I'm waiting for release.

Me over-levelling: I levelled the first two characters to 54 and the third was 12 when I reached her. I LOVE being able to that! 😁
Good for the story, but the gameplay is pretty much lacking and there are some nasty bugs

Does anyone know if they are making, or have made a hack n slash version, of Truth, like they did with Deception, titled Zan? It wasn't as heavy on the story, since im guessing it was just meant for those who already played Deception, and was a basic retelling of it, but with action hack n slash battles. Was still a blast tho.
They already did nisa and no one else wanted to pick it up since first one game didn’t sell

Sea of Stars is not a real JRPG, just an homage by a western indie company, it won't stack up to this in any way except music since they got a couple tracks by Yasunori Mitsuda.

Look at the footage, it barely runs on the PS4. It might come later to the Switch but expect another Death end Request 2, performance wise.

Game looks great but I need to play this mobile due to long travel to work. Switch 2 where are you?
Doing the game in hard mode, i don't really try to overlevel the enemies but just kill everybody on my way and now by following the usual path i just one shot everybody and with that get even more exp.
The game is cool but i think there's many flaws in the gameplay.
Like you said i feel like the difficulty is only made by boss doing big damage, at this point you just have to keep resurecting your characters but well, i could still always beat the boss anyway.
There's also the fact that there's too many usable items for nothing, if at least there was english names that makes sense that would be more bearable.
Sigils are useless, and especially more when they're fan shaped, and the fact that Shunya needs to use her stones to use them make them even more useless (and even more when you also take the fact that evertyime a boss one shot her she loose her stones), the only one i use is Mikazuchi's for speed buff/debuff, but everytime i feel like it doesn't really matter.
The defense button is near useless, most of the time my character is out of staggering before being hit so i prefer to use an attack, even if the ennemy get's in a inner ring, it never really bothered me that much.
Halu though is a good addition to the gameplay, if you use him at the right time you can kinda make the boss loose a turn and thus add a layer of strategy.
The overzeal extra turn with the ascend skill is nice, when fighting boss i usually use it to resurect a character rather than ascending sinceyou can't have more than 4 characters in the inner rings anyway.
But still i enjoy the game, and especially the story since i really like Utawarerumono.

Wanted to play this game, but antyaliasing is fucked up and this game is very jaggy and looks really low quality.

Is it the same English script as the Steam version? Because NISA didn't publish that version. So if it's different and NISA really did their own translation when one already existed, that would be stupid and wasteful while also explaining why it took an extra year to come out. But if it's the same, we can't blame NISA for the dialog problems this time.

I do not think he is that good. He is a passionate man who does deep analysis but he is not the greatest strategist.

The game isn't hard but it's true that you can face some boss that just one shot you. You can still resurect them but i find it annoying, i would prefer to have less ways to revive/heal but have my characters more resistant and have to manage my ressources this way.
In general I like the idea of a strategy oriented battle system - I loved the Grandia style. In Grandia you could really defeat the mightiest bosses with good coordination of your attacts, counters and magic. The big advantage was that the randomness factor was removed - each skill could either break the flow or not - you just had to chose which one to use and if a break effect war required/recommended or not. Being told that your attacks and skills in this game have a random component it effectively defeats the purpose of such a feature.
That this game is part of a series is for me more a dealbreaker than the random elements. Even if this game is a prequel to another game you still lack the backgrounds to understand everything and have the best experience. That is also a reason why I cannot play the Trials games.
It is like starting now with "One Piece" with a backlog of over 1000 episodes - it is demotivating to be always behind. For me I will skip this game - I think with Sea of Stars and in a few weeks Super Mario RPG and Star Ocean 2R I will have enough games to play.
Have some beautiful looks. But unfortunately it's from a series that I don't like.
