DQ 9 is my most played childhood game and the reason why i love the genre
DQ 9 was one of the first games I ever played. I played it a lot too.
So underrated gane. It's a execelent RPG.
Yeah we need a DQ9 remake on the Switch or Switch 2 with updated multiplayer for sure

Actually, the localization class started in Dragon Quest 3; or Dragon Warriors 3 as it once called. It than reappeared in Dragon Quest 6 & 7 and than come back in Dragon Quest 9.
crazy that you had that music in the beginning, because i just started playing super robot taisen og saga.
i started playing it before but never finished it, it's a pretty long game. hoping to finish it this time and play part 2 after. it's an amazing and unique game.

Luminous Arc is so good. Was one of my favorite childhood RPGs.

Super robot taigen was one of the first DS games i ever got.
Can't remember much of it but it was definitely fun.
Played it till the end.
the next one, endless frontier exceed is even better.
but the story of SRW is hard to follow, if I had to give a chronological order :
after namco x capcom (for reiji, xiomu and KOSMOS):
-super robot wars ogs (never get out from Japan)
-endless frontier
-endless frontier exceed (axel and alfimi from SRW ogs are in the game)
-projet x zone (Haken and Kaguya ARE in the verse of reiji and xiomu; Sanger from SRW is in the game)
-projet x zone 2
- SRW moon dwellers (Ashen, Haken and Sanger are in the game, project x zone is canon because it's the only time they meet...)
yeah, it's really tough...
But one really good thing : for every cross game they appear, these events are canon for the Super Robot Wars lore (except mobile games)

3- Super robot taisen endless frontier exceed
2 - Dragon Quest 9
1 - Suikoden Tierkreiss

Where does Golden Sun Dark Dawn fit?
Idk if it counts but Harvest Moon DS had some of the biggest scale, biggest secrets, biggest everything in a Harvest Moon/farming game to date. Theres so much in that game it would take hundreds and hundreds of hours to unveil, it was so cool to discover things in that game as a kid.
Avalon code on nds seems to be forgotten, scenario was meh but the game's idea was quite original and there were a bachelor/bachelorette system
Battles in Suikoden DS looks like a portable Chrono Cross!
Metal max 2 reloaded is great. You can buy a aftermarket cartridge with the English translation on it. But only plays on original ds and the lite. I only know one person selling it.

yo they actually did an eng patch for luminous arc 3 a while back so here's to hoping that they patch infinity next.....and better yet for vita3k to patch itself...

Super Robot Wars OG Saga... i bought it and imported it ... i tried it SEVERAL times and i always drop the ball midway. I still don't know why.
DQ9 was cool :) i played it during lunchtime with my co worker a bit
I prefer Luminous Arc 2 over the first. Also love Grimoire of the Rift.

Suikoden tierskin is so good
I am on a long Nintendo DS kick right now, currently stuck into Dragon Quest 9... there is so much to do in that game. I don't like SRPG's, but I will definitely check out Suikoden Tierkris after I am finally done with DQ9.
play super robot taisen og saga if you haven't. i'm playing it now, it's such an amazing and unique game. i think you'll like it more than that suikoden game. i played that suikoden a while back but og saga is much better imo. and if you're playing on emulator like me you can get the fan translated version of og saga 2, which i'll probably jump into immediately after finishing part 1.
Custom Robo Arena, thats the gem
You should definitely check out Suikoden Tierkreis. The whole multiverse setting makes the story much more interesting!
jeane d'ark on psp is an amazing game. it's a srpg but a pretty simple one, not a bunch of complex systems to learn but still manages to be decently challenging.
Let's hope Nintendo Switch 2 will allow these ports.
Also, maybe Nintendo online will have them. Might make paying for the service worth it.
I definitely would’ve added Dragon Ball Z attack of the Sayians. One of the best JRPG’s on that system that is still stuck on it. It’s a shame
I would have put Rondo of Swords above several of these!
need 1 of these for ps4 its the only console i cant emulate ;/ and would have to do research and buy the console plus games i need
Inazuma Eleven is a good RPG, I just don't know if it's a DS exclusive
Yippee, I am one of the first twenty five commentators! My favourite RPG on the DS was the remake of Chrono trigger. I will now obtain the game again for only 60$. I played some of the Dragon quest games on the console, too. Have a nice weekend, Erick!

Where is "Battles of Prince of Persia"? It's a very good game too and so underrated.
I swear I really wanted to like Covenant of the Plume and tried several playthroughs, but it is just too damned difficult for most humans to enjoy. If you miss the high Overkill requirement for even one battle you're stuck with a nearly unbeatable Revenant on top of the normal enemies in the next story battle.

The World Ends With You has been remade and ported to PS4/5 and Switch, so it’s no longer exclusive to the DS.
I enjoyed Covenant of the Plume & beaten all 3 Paths, it's difficult for a reason

Retroarch or probably desume. You would think citra would have backwards compatibility like the 3ds does
I like the MelonDS emulator on PC.
Then you'd have to find digital copies of the games to download, right? Since PCs do not have ports for NDS physical game cards. Or am I missing something?
@RSimpkinuk57 yes you can sail the high seas for it, or. , or hear me out. What most people actually do and buy the physical cartridges with a physical cartridges dumper , to make the files on their pc and play it
You know the top 5 has to be absolutely insanely good when Radiant Historia is not even among them. That means there are five games better than that on the DS.
And Dragon Quest IX is only at number 5 too...
its not on the list because its also on the 3ds, otherwise it would have been #1

No Black Sigil, Nostalgia or Rondo of Swords? All waaaaaaay better than either Dragon Quest 9 or the Valkyrie Profile imo. (even Sands of Destruction is better)

Tried to play Sands of Destruction a couple of times, couldn’t get past the horrendous voice acting. I swear it made my ears bleed!

Suikoden Tierkreis….. my god that voice acting. I would have rather they just been silent text. That voice acting is so bad anyone…. And I mean anyone could have done better with a little effort.
Still don't know how they had "huh" be essentially the most used word in the script yet managed to consistently get the inflection of "Huh." vs "Huh?" backwards.

Wdym, the GBA had so much shovelware that i could legit count all the good games there with my fingers

The DS has one of the most solid libraries of games.
If you can get past the gimmicks (dual screen/touchscreen) it has some of the best games ever released on any console.
Can we stop bundling SRPGs in with JRPGs? They're not the same genre, with virtually no world exploration, and often have different audiences. Saying you're going to list the top 5 JRPGs only to have a third of them not actually be JRPGs is a bit questionable.
