Leave your guess for pricing! Will a fully decked-out Trailhunter reach $65K??? I think it very well could.
The interest rate will kill people’s too.
I hope not otherwise it will make more sense to just buy an off-road and do the modifications ourselves. We all know the Toyota dealerships are going to be doing markups on top of whatever the base price is which already sucks
They won’t sell well at 65K. A ZR2 is 57K. it needs be around that or it will be a bust. They’ll need to stay around the Big2 midsize pricing or they won’t be building many TrailHunters/Pros.
I'd say $69k in Canada over $80k
Idk, but if it's over $50k for the base TH then I'm out.
I'm going base because I'm really probably not going to use it much for what it's made for. I just think it looks cool. I also would probably stick with the 6 foot bed.
Yea a bigger bed would be nice for a fully loaded Trailhunter. More room for sure
Same
You Sr. Think like me lol wouldnt buy a 5 foot taco
Base trail hunter with a 6ft bed for me
I don’t do off-roading but I can appreciate how awesome these trucks are. If it’s around 60k I’d be getting a platinum tundra heh
I had someone ask me "60k? Why not just get a nice Tundra?" My answer is that for one: it won't be the top of the line Tundra, and for 2, I live in Houston. Parking is already difficult. I'd rather have a smaller truck. A lot of guys have that little man syndrome here though, they can't fathom wanting a smaller truck. lol
I like them both for different reasons. I've always struggled with a truck having full molle panels versus more open bed due to options. Both are amazing trucks.
Great point!
Great review of the different options. I'd prefer the base because I don't need al of the accessories. Thanks for showing the differences.
Of course! Thanks for watching!
Base, I already have a camper shell picked out. My buddy sent me pictures of the underground trail hunter build at the ARB booth. That one looked great
Are you really spending 70 K on a Tacoma? May God bless you
Looks good! Thanks for putting this together. I wonder if the rack blocks the bed camera?
Awesome Review! I love this truck. Did I notice cooled seats on the control panel?
Hopefully there is a base option sans stuff that will most likely never get used like the snorkel and that Baja rack that’s cosmetic. This has less stuff that’s gonna go right off the lot than the TRD Pro, at least for me anyway. I love the ARB bumper, Old Man Emu suspension and the 33’s, I’d ditch the bronze wheels for black Method’s and switch out the tires for KO2’s or Wildpeak’s.
Solid wheel and tire choice! I personally like all the bronze accents but the black would look solid too!
Informative review.
I'm definitely looking at a Trailhunter in the summit white. If i had it my way as is, id only do the ARB fridge and wireless booster. I love the back cap but i don't like getting dirt and snow in my rig when i go camping. I'd probably wait and put a Smart cap system with an ikamper tent on the top or a GFC. Cannot wait till these reach the Florida market!
I have a white 2014 V6 that i bought 6 months ago with a 6-inch lift and 52K miles for 23K. I love that these new ones look similar to the 12-15 Tacomas. Makes me feel like i made the right move in terms of style
Great video as usual, can't wait for driving impressions embargo to be lifted. Since I don't go off road any more and want a bad ass one, thinking a loaded hybrid Black / red combo sport, add power side steps and swap out grille with Pro one with light. I love how the frame is pre-threaded for side steps and the power button area has room for customization to add/move buttons. Can't wait, I have a deposit down with no markup dealer 🤑
Nice man! Thanks!!!!
I'm looking at the Trail Hunter, but with the bed rack I don't see how you can add an tonneau cover because of how the rack is attached.
Definitely going base bc it comes with everything I'm looking for for overlanding. In all my years of off-roading and overlanding I never needed a full metal cab and fridge in the back. It'd be nice if it came with a recovery wench, though.
Recovery wench
I think a Winch is an option, at least it was when I was building out a Lexus GX550 Overtrail.
I love the Trailhunter interior. It’s so nice! I hope the Tundra gets something similar. I’d get the base Trailhunter, but I don’t even want the thing in the bed. Rims are 50/50 for me.
I’m gonna kinda hybrid between the two. Instead of the rack I’m gonna go with a canopy, a slider on top of a decked system. More lockable storage that way. I’ll still able to attach stuff to the outside, plus with the right setup you can add some high output light bars. This should be a great truck…. I just hope it has a better seating position because the older ones are really uncomfortable.
The bronze is stunning. I think it would be crazy to get a different color for this trim.
bronze on bronze kinda dull. Bronze on black wheels or red on bronze wheels.
I saw in another video, silver with black rims trailhunter and it looked sweet!
I kinda wish that the hybrid power trains came in Manual stick shift. I am all for improved emissions and improved MPG. But I also would like to enjoy my time driving it
That’s a well integrated snorkel 👍🏼
Super sleek right?
If it comes with a Camper Shell instead of the rack I'd opt for that.
Once again, well done video. I didn’t think I would like the trailhunter in White but it looks good with the bronze accents. I wish there was a two tone option like they have the trd pro setup with the black top. Man I just don’t know what color I want. What are your thoughts on the underground color in person? On camera it looks good in some angles but others make it look like a plain gray and kind of boring.
Hey Jon! I can't wait for the test drive review. Hopefully that will be coming out soon?!
We drive it in a few weeks. Not sure when the embargo will lift.
I hope that the trail hunter badge gets rolled to other models like the 4Runner/Land Cruiser as well it would be really popular. I think that Toyota paid attention to what ford did with the bronco.
I want this Tacoma:
Best mpg engine
Crew cab
Six foot bed
4x4
Softex or leather
Dual climate control
Nothing else
Celestial silver - easiest color to care for.
Also me: Tacoma xrunner with the Tacoma hybrid max with two seater in supersonic red with gloss black roofline lowered to only 5.5” ground clearance.
hahahah two completely different trucks
If Toyota knows bed is weak, they should have fixed it internally and not have stiffners taking up space in the bed. Other than that, they did a good job with this redesign.
I want the longer bed with that wicked tent rack system in the back. No fridge though.
Is there more rear seat leg room in the TH vs non-TH models, or are they all the size?
I'm going full with that fridge since I've been waiting to go over landing for the longest time 😅😊
Base, it'll be my 4th Toyota Tacoma. I've been complaining "why no hybrid" for 2 decades now. Base has most of the add ons and them some, that many off road driving needs. Air compressor is awesome for field repairs. I use the bed a lot so having the camper like bed offers me little and I've got yeti like coolers.
Pricing will be critical to the success of the new Tacoma.
Do you know if there is an option for a factory lift and 35"s?
I know vehicles are getting more expensive but I still can't convince myself to go past 40k for compact pickup even if it's fully loaded. Maybe if I win the lottery or hit my self with the stupid stick I'll come around lol.
Yeah prices for vehicles is getting stupid expensive. I guess I need to get hit with the stupid stick 41 times lol.
$40k will get you a Honda Ridgeline or Ford Maverick
Enough of exterior and interior reviews. Tell Toyota to let you drive the damn truck already.
Jon....great video...do you know if there will me a mid-height bed rack for the Trailhunter?
No sure of all the accessories yet.
I would go base and attach an AT Overland shell with an Atlas popup.
Great review.
Nice trucks.
Glad you liked it!
Fully decked out, $70k. Base model, $64k . that's my guess. Wiht he TRD Pro's hitting $50-$55k in the last gen this seems to be on track to me. i hope I'm guessing high, but we all know how the last few years have been. Took my normal guess and added 15%
The TRD Pro is higher than Trailhunter
I hope we are wrong too
If prices stay the same range on these new models I’m trading in my 22 Tacoma TRD Pro lol
Looking very nice I am going to trade in my Tundra TRD pro 2020 for the Trail hunter the green one look very nice.
Nice 👍
Will the trail hunter be a offered trim for Tundra in the future?
I'm going to wait for the next gen 4runner
Can't wait!
The trail hunter looks really good, but, I think that there's a whole lot of people that are waiting for the debut of the next generation 4RUNNER.
Super cool, I just don't like the "headache rack". Does the TR come without it? These could be cooler than the Pro if you don't have to have the Headache rack. I guess you can always just take it off though. haha
Yea just take it off and you can sell it
i'm just waiting for 6th gen 4runner Trailhunter... you know!
A Toyota rear seat/seats delete system would be great.
So from a suspension standpoint, which has the better ride, TRD Pro Fox suspension or the Trailhunter Old Man Emu suspension?
Not sure yet.
Check out Chloe Kuo’s ride along in a TRD PRO Tacoma at Barret Jackson (I think) in Arizona
Jon, if you get a chance at some point, can you do a under hood video of the snorkel and how it’s tied in to the air box?
For sure! I will try my hardest the next time I get my hands on this
@@TRDJon awesome, thanks man!
Wonder how useful the snorkel will be with the hybrid drivetrain and hybrid electronics. You'd think deeper water would become an issue. Some guy said he was an engineer on one of these comments and said hybrid power train won't like deep water. Wonder if there's any truth in that.
I want the decked out TH ❤
Thanks for the thorough review because at the Chicago auto show you couldn’t even get inside of it
No problem!
I hope ARB makes a matching front bumper.
As much as I like the new Tacoma, i really want the six gen 4runner to take on the trail hunter package, i love my 2016 4runner trail, but I'm really curious to see the six gen what's that going to look like.
I am thinking around that price range too. What do you think the pro would be at? I am thinking 60k?
I hope $55K is. The only reason I say so much for this TH is the RTT, Bed rack, fridge, rack, antenna, etc. All those accessories add up fast
Id rather buy the fully stocked Trailhunter. Might replace some of the things but overall, I'd rather have as much as I can from the get-go rather than having to get the stuff later on.
I hope they put on a Trail Hunter badge to replace the iForxe Max on the hood.
That would be cool!
It looks like I’m going to be more into the off road premium
If I am getting a trialhunter is for over landing. Actually only reason I’d get a Taco. So I’d go fully done up. Would want the bed sprayed with liner.
I really hate that front front center wireless charging speaker. That makes the battery a fire hazard from baking in the sun.
Pretty sure they thought that one out...
@@TRDJon yeah I just tried building a basic one on the website so the options are there. Also the jbl bluetooth speaker seems optional which I would pass on.
What is the payload?
The rear seating definitely needs more room I am hoping that production model will have more room. I can’t imagine going on a say 8 Hour Dr. with a couple of people in the back like family or friends around 6 feet tall I mean I think when you get out of the truck you won’t be able to walk for a while that’s how tight it looks back there Should’ve added at least another foot of legroom make it a little bit more comfortable and also the seat backs in the back looks to be a little bit too upright. That’s also going to get a little uncomfortable after a while so I don’t know.
Is the snorkel and sport bar standard? I really wanna see one without it.
I am 95% sure they are.
I have a paid off 23 Canyon AT4X and I’ll be trading in for one of these if I can find one without ridiculous dealer bs
Do you know if they are going to offer the trail hunter in a manual transmission?
No they aren't
Hello @trdjon I bought the rrw rr6 wheels but which lug nut will fit can you help me please I know you hace the rr7s
Lot a variables to this question. What truck you bought it for and offset. I would get with RRW to make sure you got the right ones. Enjoy!
@@TRDJon I have a 2016 toyota 4runner sr5 and I got RR6H in -12 offset
God, I want that Ice Cap one so bad. I'm guessing at least low to mid sixties for the loaded one.
Hopefully we are wrong on price!
It's also the first time seeing it with a short bed.
True as well! Completely blanked on that
I'd rather wait for the Tundra Trailhunter.
I think it would be nice to install a winch on this car
Wrangler tire on a Taco lol Yokohama or Falken A/T tires would compliment it’s Japanese heritage much much more.
2024
2024
So it we the people how come I can’t build my own TRD pro truck ! Like I would like a 6 foot bed cause I live in Alaska and I do need more room in my bed ! I don’t get it.
I'd probably get a base with a few additional options, but things like traction boards and 12v frig I could get cheaper and more to my specs than buying from Toyota. Ultimately, I have little interest in the Tacoma and am still waiting for "official" word from Toyota that they will actually (ever) produce a 6th gen 4Runner!!
65k? When you can get a tundra for that?
Tundra is not a pure offroad/overlanding truck though. Offroading is never cheap. Off road centered suvs, jeeps, midsize are always just as expensive as full-size trucks. Also I'm sure a trd pro tundra isn't 65k. Also I bet a overlanding tundra with old man emu shocks and roof racks wouldn't be 65k. Every vehicle has its uses and it's value given intended use.
This blow away the 2024 Honda Ridgeline TrailSport
Most body on frame trucks will
55k for the white trsilhunter.
I like that white. Fully done up probably humm 68,999.
Some big $$$$ accessories for sure
@TRDJon Sheesh no love for the Billet UCA..
that file was corrupt for some reason when I went to edit. I showed the trailhunter branded UCA. Was very mad. Thanks...
@@TRDJon bummer! it’s all good man. Even though the billet UCA are just bling, there is a lot of work going into them. Cool to see either way. Still love the channel.
It needs the hood scoop hood. Looks incomplete without it. Otherwise awesome looking truck. Gonna have to wait and see the pricing and if dealers are gonna add on “market adjustment” BS!
Toyota slaps a pro or trailhunter badge on a vehicle with a few aftermarket accessories and they charge a fortune, total bullshit! That doesn't even include the crooks at the dealership marking the price up.
Made by our ‘good’ neighbors in MEXICO. Deal killer for me.
Why not just get a camper shell. Those molly panels are cool, but rain and dirt will come right through and get on whatever gear you have back there.
Totally could as well. But I'mm sure there is a decent cost difference
Damn man that thing is super nice. Maybe I can afford one in 2044 if I save lol. These things will prolly still go for 35,000 or more on the used car market in 20 years.
Maybe less than that but they will hold value for sure.
I just walked by Toyota of Huntington Beach and they have the 3rd Gen Taco TRD Off Road on the front lawn… you ready?…. $66,000
Dumb
In my area a local dealership has a few loaded 2023 Off Road Taco’s for $44k
I'm waiting on price. If it's above sixty, especially with these interest rates, Toyota can eat it
Base Trailhunter is my choice personally. Anyone can do what they want, but just install any of the accessories yourself if you can. It's cheaper and at the same time you know how to use your accessories.
For sure. But why not buy a trd or then for the same philosophy?
@TRDJon I would totally get a TRD and do the same thing.
From my Toyota dealer the after market that are not Toyota brand only have a warranty of 3 months at time of buying the vehicle. If it's an actual Toyota brand part is has the normal Vehicle warranty for 3 yr/36K miles. Is Toyota doing longer than 3 months now for Toyota installed after market brands???????
Time for a seat swap!!!!
I would like to see the engineers get stuck in ten inches of mud and four inches of water and hook up that front Toe hook And then climb inside the truck and start driving it. Put the toe hook on the front bumper.
Also, I can’t see this truck going for 66K plus I had paid 58K for a fully loaded raptor back in 2014 brand new and as we all know them trucks are big.
Is the Trailhunter gonna be more expensive then a TRD Pro?
Not sure yet. I’d assume very close to
Well i guess I'm never affording a truck. Maybe i can cash out my 401k in 30 years for one.
Sooooo price?
I don’t have a trail hunter.. I have a 2017 GEAR HUNTER 😂
At 3:31 I noticed what looked like some kind of satellite antenna on the second Trailhunter. Is that correct? What would that be for?
Google weboost overland antenna.
4cyl turbo/ hybrid 8sp transmission will be less reliable and expensive for (Long term) users
Rear seat room is the only big miss with the new Tacoma. Appears same as last gen with no real improvements.
"improvements" is subjective. They're built for offroading not pure comfort. They need to get the approach, departure, and breakover angles right for offroad use. Americans keep getting fatter and fatter, and expect car manufacturers to build bigger and bigger cars.
i'll take the one with the v6.......oh, wait.....
Buy used then.
nissan frontier@@TRDJon
Enjoy!
Just not a fan of the molle pillars
Toyota killed it with 4 cylinder turbocharged engine... Just wait and see how much problems this truck will have
Time wil ltell
I just assume any new truck will be $75k minimum
$83,500
SNORKEL IS WHACK
