- Hi everyone! I'm Aja Dang and here is my experience with buying a house as a freelancer. The home buying experience can be pretty intense but as a self employed person, we have to jump through more hoops to prove our worth (literally). Here are a few tips I learned about how to qualify for a mortgage and buy a house a freelancer and if your experience differed from mine, please share it with us in the comments!

I had similar issues with money across different accounts (even employed with a company). I’d recommend others to start putting the funds in the main account you intend to use for a down payment 2-3 months before a purchase.
Yes great recommendation! Our lender even asked for documentation for every single large deposit even if we were just putting cash savings into our accounts so best to do this in advance in one main account
My father-in-law worked in finance and recommended that we base our mortgage on one income. It was so smart because it meant we could each take breaks working and it took the stress off-and we’ve each built successful businesses as a result of having that flexibility.
AJA❤ this is one of THE most helpful videos I’ve watched from you!!! I’ve been self employed the past 5+ years and as I start thinking about buying a house the whole idea of it has been so anxiety inducing! This video makes it feel a lot more doable. Thank you so much for making this and congrats on your new home ❤
Hi Aja! Congrats on your new home purchase! Thank you for trusting Rhett and our team to help you navigate your unique home buying experience. If we can help with anything else, please don't hesitate to reach out.

yes!
This is such an important and informative video, Aja! 💡
thank you!
First, love your videos! ❤️
thank you!
Basing your mortgage on one income was a smart move. Great video!!
thank you!
i didn't get that part..seemed like it should be opposite: wouldn't you get pre-approved for way more by combining income?...@@AjaDang
@@michaelpaul5801 since we are both contractors and our paychecks are consistent, basing our mortgage off of one income allows for us to buy a house we can afford when payments don't come through or work is inconsistent
Congrats on buying a house, that's my plan as a self-employed disabled Canadian single person.
you got this!
Can you do. Video on freeze your credit and unfreeze it?
I had money saved in cash, so when I went to deposit the cash. They didn't know where it came from, so it couldn't be counted towards the down payment. I had to have my parents wire me the amount and I gave them the cash. If I would've deposited the cash a couple months prior I would've been good.
wow - that's interesting. Thanks for sharing.
Based on my experience the lender will go off gross income and not taxable income
maybe it's different for people with 1099s? or maybe I misunderstood
Actually youre probably right , I forgot the video was for self employed 😅
