    Thank you so much for this! Im a mom of a 2, 3 and 5 year old. We are going to camp in our back yard a few times first, then on my moms 10 acres, then a few camp sites BUT, my main goal is to do primative camping away from camp sites. My kids are really loving "the outdoor boys" on youtube and they want to do what his kids do, and im all for it! My youngest is so obsessed eith catching a fish, cooking it on a fire and camping. So we are gonna make it halpen haha

      That sounds amazing that your willing to do that with your kids. I like the luxury of campsites (at least with my kids) so you won't find me doing primitive caning any time soon 😉 When I was a teenager, I did do a backpacking trip (no campsites, water, it bathrooms) so I have done it before but it's been over 20 years - maybe someday....I hope you have a great time!

    I'm a fairly new camper, just started in fall 2021 and have watched so many of your videos and they have been sooooo helpful (you may recognize my name by now lol!). We just go with our homeschool co-op (hubby isn;t into camping AT ALL but lots of other friends and kids there so it's always a party for my kids! My first ever trip, my youngest of 7 had just turned 1 and was not walking, but could sit up. I bought a baby camping chair with a tray and sat it on the picnic table while we ate (so she was safe) or on the ground with something under her sometimes to avoid her grabbing sticks or whatever and trying to eat them. And i can't say enough about the Ergo, she was on my back most of the trip, even while teaching two kiddos how I ride a bike! But after years of wearing babies, especially my 6th who needed me to wear him basically all day every day for the first year of life, I have chronic shoulder and neck pain w/ migraines :( But if you don't overdo it, YES wear them on your back as much as possible.

      I'm so glad you've found so many of my videos helpful - that's why I make them 😊 Good advice on the baby wearing. It definitely puts a strain on your body over time. Also, you're amazing taking 7 kids camping on your own! I broke down when my husband went on an overnight backpacking trip in the middle of our camping trip and I think I only had 4 at the time (they were on the young side, though, so I'll give myself that).

    Wanted to share my experince with a baby who is fed donor milk via supplementer (a bottle with kind of like a straw that goes in their mouth alongside the nipple. So they breastfeed and get extra donor milk at the same time). I actually have this same set up at home too.
    I bring frozen breastmilk (which doubles as extra ice packs) and
    In the evening I fill up the amount of bottles that I need during the night and put them in a little cooler bag with ice bricks that I sit next to my head. So when my babies wake up I just grab a bottle and feed them lying down right next to me (we cosleep too).
    We've never been away for longer than 3 nights though so not sure how to handle the amount of ice bricks you would need for a longer trip. Or if this would be safe in America with potential bears.
    Thanks for all your tips, I'm already looking forward to our next camping trip with baby number 3 who will be 3 months old then.

      It was an interesting time lol. Two tips: First, leave when they will be sleeping normally. We drove to Yosemite at two am and she slept almost the entire five hour drive. We headed home in the morning on time for her first nap which did not cut it. She was NOT happy for a lot of the drive. Second, sleeping bags are very noisy. She woke up way more than usual due to my husband and I moving around and making noise. I can't recall if you covered those two already so sorry if I repeated.

    My twins turned 2 in Nov but they are on the spectrum. How do you keep toddlers from running off? We also have a baby coming in July. This is going to be a struggle as a single parent camping with 3 under 3 lol.
    That octagon pen is actually useful for putting around the fire pit. I had a 5x7 pack and play for the twins last summer and put it under my canopy and they napped in it every day.
    I'm really trying to find a less is more situation because of small cargo space. I wonder if I can hire a baby sitter to go camping for a week LMAO just so I can have help.

      First, can I just say, YOU ARE AMAZING! I would never dream to go camping with kids so young by myself. My hat is off to you. I absolutely rely on others to help and I would not have gone if I hadn't had the extra hands. My parents have saved me more times than I can count with making dinners for us as that always seems to be like a big task for me. For the toddlers not running off, I rely a lot on baby equipment for that and extra hands/eyes. I put them in a pack n play or a stroller or see if an older kid or adult can help me watch them. Some of it depends on the child's personality too. Some kids are happy to just hang out nearby and then there are others with the adventureous spirit that just was to go explore. My younger brother was one of those. So my parents actually got a harness of sorts (I'm not sure exactly what it was but I'm sure it's similar to ones you can buy nowadays that look like an animal and then have a leash on the back to hold on to) and attached it to a rope that was tied around a tree. That way he could play around the site but not completely run off. I don't actually remember this since I was little at the time too but it's what they told us they did. Not sure if that would be more helpful to you as you're trying to be more minimal, which I am not 😉. Other than the space it takes up, that is a great idea with the octoganal gate around the fire pit. I guess if I only had space for one or the other, I would choose a stroller over the gate as that contains the child around the fire pit but then could also be used for walks and other uses. But it all depends on what you're doing while camping too. Oh man, if you were able to find and afford a babysitter to come with you, I would totally do it! Or, if you had a younger relative you could take with you or a neighborhood teenager that's responsible??? I wish I had better suggestions for you on this...Good luck though!

    My daughter makes a thermos with hot water for formu;a. We make bottes of formula ready to go just add 4oz of hot then 4 oz cold water. Usuallly it ends up perfect. If breast feed ing maybe bring several thermos' and a good cooler

      have you done this in bear country? Little nervous about bottles of milk being in the tent with us...

    • @SaraWeston
      @SaraWeston  Před 8 měsíci

      That's a great tip...thank you for sharing! I, too, am curious about doing it in bear country...maybe the formula doesn't have a strong odor until it's been mixed with water???
