    I'm not a camper anymore, but we would have large 18 gallon totes for each person for their "suitcase". This was easier to pack because they were the same size and stack-able in the van. Van camping is so different from anything else. Our usual trips were a week at least, so the meat went in the red ice chest and produce went in the brown ice chest. Finally, we had a pack last bag, which included my husband's medication, my purse-backpack, and jackets along with any special toy the little ones had.
    Your concept of categorizing your equipment in totes is WONDERFUL! It's just that it happened about 15 years too late for us. But, I'm sure there's always someone who will love and use your info.

    Totes are a lifesaver when it comes to organizing your camping gear. Especially the lists for each container. That's a must. We have ours setup quite similar to yours with a kitchen tote, one for the picnic area, one for the tent and another for our lights, batteries, etc... Well done!

    An inventory list in each box. I should explain: I code my boxes (for months long expeditions) with a Letter like A1, A2,A3, for art supplies, K1,K2,for kitchen, F for food, etcetera, then I have a boxes-as-packed master inventory list with those codes, with a column for to buy, another for in-its-box, and one more for packed in the vehicle- the latter only applies to the box or unbox-able items. Then I keep the box inventory sheets out separately in the vehicle to easily locate the desired box. These boxes are small totes so are within my lifting limits. On the off-season, an inventory sheet, accurate of what is actually there, sits in the box. In the spring it’s quick and easy to add missing items to a shopping list, and repack for the new season. My master box inventory list is very long. But I won’t need to remake it every year. Just have to note anything I move from one box to another.

    I know this video is 2 years old, however, I just discovered this video. One suggestion I would make - invest in some Turkish towels. This past summer, I replaced our regular beach towels with Turkish towels. Even though they're thinner than beach towels, they are very absorbent. Being thinner, they take up less room and dry quicker than a regular beach towel. I was really really glad that I swapped out our beach towels for Turkish towels. You could probably save a lot of room in your tote by doing this. They are more expensive than regular beach towels but I just bought a couple at a time and looked at it as an investment. The solar lights are a great idea. Would never have thought to take those.

    • @MilesFromMissouri
      @MilesFromMissouri  Před 2 lety +4

      I do not!!
      A quick rundown of the lanyards: I purchased $1 lanyards from Dollar Tree, and ordered some travel size soap bottles with carabiners from Amazon. I filled them with body wash, shampoo & conditioner & clipped them into the lanyards. It’s that easy! I also made sure to get different colors so they didn’t get mixed up, and added some $1 scrubbies to the lanyards as well!

    I am making a list so that people with small vehicles can go camping w/o having to have a lot of these chunky items. This many totes isn't needed.

      That is a great idea! We upgraded from a Jeep Renegade (which left zero room after we added 2 kids & a dog haha) to our truck just for camping & travel. Not everyone will need the same items, but I hope my video helps with ideas! Thanks for watching - we appreciate YOU!

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching!!
      The totes I believe are 27Gal size. The string lights would totally work! I would suggest LED & plastic bulbs if you’re going to add to a canopy to avoid them getting hot 😊

    When me sons was home I had some like this and every thing was keep in the basement in one place. As a single mother i would not tell my sons when we would be going camping if I could help it. At night I would load the cooler and have all the camping stuff done and tell my sons you have 15 minutes to get everything in place in the car and your things
    One time they didn't have it done now i would put tne bikes on after.
    It avoids them saying things over n over.
