About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Scrap man!!!, you can make flapping wings for flying machines using the sail pieces!!!
Lets make this the top comment
I wanna see this
Good idea
I want to see this
That's a good idea actully
after the campaign, definitely try to build the following:
Viking Sailboat
Surfing the waves(if possible)
Realistic glider(which uses headwind to climb)
Hoverboat(the one with the inflated base)
Plane that flies using sails
man, does nobody else want a sailplane?!?
@@apersunthathasaridiculousl1890 lol
Trireme with paddle based oars.
It would be nice if he tested that aero-boat he made a while ago in this map.
@@apersunthathasaridiculousl1890 i have a feeling he will do that eventually haha
The Vortex is actually based in an ancient Greek monster called Charybdis. It's a gigantic mouth that takes ships into the underworld
Ideally to make a stable sailboat you'd want to make a pretty heavy keel, but lower in the water. The lower it is, the farther the center of rotation if from the surface of the water, meaning that it'll rotate less, giving you more stability. Because placing the weight right on the bottom of the boat, you're essentially lowering the center of rotation closer to the water, destabilising you further.
Yup
That's true
Can also try making a catamaran, give it some shape stability over weight stability
A longer hull shape might give a bit more buoyancy fore and aft to help counter rotation as well.
Also, maybe move your main mast closer to the center of mass? Sails in TM seem to have a huge amount of lift relative to the weight of the boat.
Scrap man needs to see this
Well, you have seen Charybdis. A greek mythological monster that matches the vortex exactly. Beware of cliff dwelling hydras that snatch you out of your ship from above.
Nice one bro, I was gonna make the same reference XD
a'tuin is another myth refference to the star turtle
You mean Scylla, right?
I was gonna say this exact comment, too!🤣
That's what I though. Do you think they would add Scylla? Sorry if I spelled it wrong.
@@valor4407 they'd have to either add cliffs coming out of the ocean and being super tall in that area, or make it come down from the sky randomly, but I bet they could. If they will or not is another thing though
That's a freaking underwater sarlac, I thought they wouldn't exist in trailmakers - what a surprize.
it's name is Charybdis, from Greek mythology
@@enallane5538 So technically it's still an underwater sarlac?
@@danser_theplayer01 Yes, charyb was a giant maw in the middle of the sea, so in a sense
@@Necromorph790 its just charybdis no need to worryyyyyyyy
Do you usually think about whether a game will have underwater sarlacs?
The vortex looks like it's meant to be Charybdis from Greek Mythology. Also Atuin was the giant turtle of the disk world series.
Maybe they have plans on adding fuel consumption etc, that will make sails a lot more useful.
If the sails ever work like the real world an airship definitely needs to be made
Bro yeeeeesss. I was thinking the same thing. Like steampunk style airship? Yeeesss bro
Make a loose balancing system on the ship to prevent extreme tipping.
So I’ve used a sail flyer to go beyond where the map shows in colour and let me tell you, the waves are HUGE.
Noice
I know right
You could make new multiplayer Monday challenges on this map with the waves and whirlpool! Sounds like so much fun!
Fun fact :the highest wind you can get to is 720 KPH and you can get paste the end of the map by going underwater
When you first added the wings for the keel it look like they made it worse and wanted to go horizontal. With that in mind maybe try placing them horitontaly like a hydrofoil and see if that helps keep you stable
scrapman: *is driving*
the propellers: *eEeeEEEee*
Whenever scrapman uploads is a treat so Scrapman if you read this keep up the good work :)
Make mega ship that could carry ten relics
yes
Cool
Cool
Cool
Cool
I think this series would be cooler if you used only sailing to explore and kept the drone for retrieving artifacts to the minimum. It's just more fun to see you face the different challenges and the series will be longer which I think is better
Based on the size of the boat compared to the player, you might want to try a hiking system. Essentially a big weight you dangle off the side of the hull to make a rotational force that counters the one made by the wind pushing on the sails. It's how single-person sailboats resist capsizing. The person (or crew) sailing just leans out of the boat.
also: trying to go to the edge of the map in a boat is also very very hard since the waves toss you up into the air and the wind blows you back(even when i was using a super stable boat that was really fast, the back of the wave is almost like a cliff). a submarine might work though, it seemed to be better when i tried it
ScrapMan if you stick with keels even for the catamaran try putting the weights much lower down ie 2 or 3 modular wings length. maybe that would make them more effective.
Scrapman, this big ship is the ship you was dropped off in the start of the DLC
Fun fact the vortex is actually a Greek monster call Charybdis who alongside her counterpart Scylla, guards one of the entrances to the sea of monsters
Edit: spelling + facts
It doesn't actually guard the sea of monsters
That wasn't a thing as far as I know in Greek mythology and I just checked
It simply stays on one side of the strait of Messina with Scylla on the other one
Was probably invented because of the natural whirlpools in the strait, albeit much more exaggerated
@@tuluppampam that is true but the one of the only ways into the sea of monsters was through that straight at least from what I remember (it's been a bit since I read the odyssey/etc and what I saw seemed to fit) but I very easily could be wrong
The ship is the same as the ship from the start of the stranded in space campaign.
More people need to see this
Yes
Definitely
@@Loooom555 YES
Man this map looks and feels so lovecraftian. I love it! Such great work by the devs
Build a giant container ship that can go around the map and hold on to salvage for u to transport a bunch at a time
You can put weight way down underneath the keel, like 10 blocks down. That will make a lever with arm support at the sea level, making it harder for wind to turn over the boat while pushing on the sails perpendicularly.
Viable solution to the problem.
Basically lower the keel
25:22
person: i want a faster boat!
wind: as you wish
Hi persun
@@z4clewis hoi
Make an ornithopter (Dragon or something) with the sails as wings
or an underwater ornithopter
@@apersunthathasaridiculousl1890 big brain
Make a brig or tanker ship to cross the sea with a sub that has a tractor beam attached to it
2:58 well you are full sail in a storm, if you have operated a sailing vessel you should know not to do that.
Than again this game has derpy physics.
Make a glider or plane that can stay neutral in the extreme wind area and fly without moving forward or backward at one single place like it's floating by making the plane speed equal with the wind speed with Adjusted uplift
Tbh in order to do that you are going to need thrust, so it can basically never be a gilder, but really good idea tho
Can’t be done because he’ll just fall straight down. Good idea tho
Perhaps the floating ship is the same model of ship from the opening of stranded in space
Build a huge pirate ship with a crane that has a tractor beam and a big hole in the ship in which you can store the items
fun thing to do: make a sub(or just use a already made one) then if you keep going underwater you can pass the map wind. Then try to go to ge surface, fun things will happen ;)
You just need a few changes to make your sailboat work right. A narrow keel instead of the slanted keel you have works better. More weight, if you're tipping over in the wind you don't have enough. Most importantly though you need to have your rudders set to hold position! You can't tap steer since the wind is always there.
I've attempted to make a parachute using the sails. Would love for you to try to make one... it's... difficult lol
Quick test: Make a much more powerful plane, and fly into the highwinds.
Also, try the submarine there.
the skul of a tuin belongs to the Great A'Tuin is the Giant Star Turtle (of the fictional species Chelys galactica) who travels through the Discworld universe's space, carrying four giant elephants (named Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon, and Jerakeen) who in turn carry the Discworld.
Try driving the submarine into the high wind zone, because the wind doesn't really effect it much
40 seconds since upload
Not bad thats a new record
Also the whirlpool is charibdis a sea monster that hides itself as a whirlpool and swallows any sailors that are unlucky enough to be in its vortex/mouth
I mean I’ve gotten like 10 but why is that important???
@@AWBO. personal goals?
I mean that’s fair.
40 seconds?
Pathetic i have around 1 seconds or less (when i got notified, I counted from that)
making gliders with sails is also really fun
I've tried to mess around with the water physics in Trailmakers and the only way to make a boat work seems to be to use aerodynamic pieces to create the hull. If you angle two sets of aerodynamic pieces near the bottom, a boat behaves like a boat should.
I've made a few boat creations that use this method (pre-sails) on the workshop and you could try something similar
5:20 they mean when you go out of the map the waves starts getting really big and the wind start blowing against you at like 200kph to stop you from going outside of the map
You could try and break the sound barrier using sails. That would be really cool.
Can’t wait for him to make a winged flyer that uses sails
8:54 the ship: it’s the same ship in stranded in space
And the vortex it’s actually a big sea worm because in the trailer it shows a worm with a very similar mouth. Edit: 11:34 no that’s not driving that’s falling and dying
Try extreme counterweigts. Like a beam that extends pretty deep under water plus some weights. Those are going to be very effective and MIGHT just be enough to counteract that wind.
I have thalassiaphobia so every second I watch the more painfull it is but it's fine bc it's scrapmam
You have your priorities straight my friend
*After seeing these waves, I'd say it's safe to say you have to make a surfing sort of vehicle right? Test out surfing some waves! Would be awesome!*
it is in fact possible to make a sailboat that can sail upwind. i know cause i have done it. the trick is to be as light and hydrodynamic as possible and to make a catamaran so you dont need a heavy keel. you will still need to use the tailfins underwater for sideways resistance. ill upload the thing to the workshop in a couple hours. search for apparent wind sailboat.
16:25 The skull of the great A'tuin, the turtle that carries the four elephants that support the Discworld on its back.
Scrap mechanic: BUILD A PLANE
Scrapman: **builds a drone**
Scrap mechanic: BUILD A SUB!
Scrapman: **builds plane**
Scrap mechanic: BUILD A BOAT!
Scrapman: **builds a car**
Okay, now this is epic.
Attaching sails to stuffs and let the wind fling it away sounds fun XD
For grabbing things underwater, you could use a flying aircraft, (like the drone) and put a tractor beam on the end of a very long line of pistons, and bring something like the vase on the skull of atuin to the collection point via air. It might not be super practical, but its a cool concept
Now I wanna play trailmakers...
Same
it’ll probably go on sale for summer
i definitely won’t be missing the next one
I’ve played it before i can’t play anymore.
@@AWBO. bad PC?
Try flying with the sails!
So that's what they meant by the flying Dutchman
ScrapMan you can have weight blocks under the boat so the boat doesnt tip over as easy, i tried it myself and it worked.
Scrapman! Airship! Make a balloon with gimble jets inside the balloons, then use sails to for locomotion! Of course, you could use hinges and rotors to make the sails flap like wings, but that'd be pretty difficult to do.
But it'd look cool!
haven't even watched the entire video and i can tell its good
it’ called *the scrapman sense*
@@apersunthathasaridiculousl1890 lol
Day what? 5 of asking scrapman to play cosmoteer? Think it was 5, day 5 of asking scrapman to play cosmoteer
Since u had a trailmakers series withs Kosmo, kinda, and Kosmo is also playing this, i think u should do an episode together, after all massive ships take more than 1 crew member to control. A giant cargo ship with a crane to salvage would be much easier to manage 1 person keeping it steady, 1 person using the crane. wait can u have that in trail makers, i cant remember exactly how it works.
I won't lie, kinda wanna see a submarine, seeing the waves dip up while underwater just sounds cool.
You should try making a helicopter once, just to see how it would react with wind (rotating blades) and then try to fly to the high wind areas. (aka. The vortex, and the corner of the map)
I do sailing in real life and you need to put a counter weight that up you can move side to side to stop you tipping. It’s like in real life you have to sit on the opposite side of the boat to the sail to stop you from tipping and don’t always have your sail all the way out. Good luck
8:40 “oh no-se”😂
The Floating Ship is the ship you use in the "Stranded in Space" Campaign for trailmakers
Eyy, I think I have a cool multiplayer idea
A High Seas competition/race/marathon. Each player picks up different colored artifacts - Red for Scrapman, Yellow for Kosmo, Green for kAN and Blue for Moonbo; and the first one to collect all artifacts of their color wins. That'd be a very long game, maybe it could be divided into many episodes, or it could be shortened to only 10 artifacts or someting like that...
the last bit where your sail boat flew in the wind gave me an idea. Make a dual purpose sail boat like in that movie treasure planet so it sails funcionally like a boat but then with like separate thrusters specifically meant for upward movement it can fly/hover too.
These are some of the best water physics/ waves I've seen in a game
that ship is the ship that the player ride in when crashed in the main campaign, the ship exploded and the salvages fly out of it. that's the salvage carrier
Make a all mediums vehicle like a diving sea bird.
Let's see the Scrapman brain at work!
3:53
I mean, as far as my personal experience of Sailing goes, this is pretty accurate.
Great A'Tuin is the Giant Star Turtle (of the fictional species Chelys galactica) who travels through the Discworld universe's space, carrying four giant elephants (named Berilia, Tubul, Great T'Phon, and Jerakeen) who in turn carry the Discworld.
The moment I saw the vortex I thought Indestructible seat (especially the spaceship cockpit, as it is Indestructible and water resistant).
By winging it, I hope you'll make an ultralight glider which uses sails to move forward and then uses that to steer.
Honestly I think that you should just make a plane that can go through the wind on the edge of the map and see what is over there
There is an underwater Aircraft Carrier somewhere in the map
Once you locate a relic, a random other relic of its color is shown randomly on the map, you start with nothing on the red green and yellow areas
I like how Scrapman is using memes in his videos and they make a lot of sense!
it would be cool to see a plane with sails for wings or a parachute made out of sails kinda like the parachute for buster that you built a long time ago
Hmm I've only seen people go left, makes sense, idk what's on the right.
Testing various boating styles and designs could be fun, in the calm and the rough water.
I really want to see if flapping with sails is as chaotic as expected XD or if it just works.
A submarine plane could be a cool multiuse vehicle for this map, you could also leap out of the water pretty nicely and maybe glide on the wind. That could be fun!
That's no ordinary vortex, that's Charybdis, the the daughter of Poseidon and Gaea curse by Zeus to live as a sea monster which causes vortexes. She is one of my favorite ancient Greek Myths, she appears prominently in The Odyssey during Odysseus' journey home
#2: Idea - make a plane utilizing sails in stead of wings, it'll turn out to be like a steam-punk airship, could be cool!
(Because I assume they are functional wings, just, they have physics varying their use)
Also love that you use your Catarinth songs in your videos sometimes, they are truly great songs
The Vortex is freaking Charybdis!!! I wonder if Scylla will appear?
That would be awesome
you can actually get past the wind border with a sub. I did that with a friend. We went so far that we even dissapeared from the map. We also discovered that the max Wind power seems to be 720km/h
The giant floating boast is the same model as the cargo space ship that crashes in the campaign.
You should try to make a life sized pirate ship with a galley, cargo hold for artifacts, crows nest, and an anchor if that's possible
If you look at the preset sailboat you can see that the a very long and heavy keel can redirect the force forward
That large ship looks like the spaceship from the Into of the first campaign
i still can’t believe i’ve been watching scrap man for 4 years now….the name “ scrap mechanist” is so nostalgic
I think that giant vortex mouth monster is reference to Greek mythology, where there was same monster called "Charybdis" and there was neighbour-monster three-headed "Scylla", and one greek mythology guy (i forgot his name) after fighting through Troyan battle was going in the path "between Scylla and Charybdis"
Seeing the name A'Tuin is always fun, ever since I've read Discworld.
The floating ship is the one that crashes in campaign mode at the very beggining
Put a long tube all the way down and put weight blocks at the end
I think it’s because you turn the town sails. If the wind catches the front sail only it will steer it around the axis of the sail
My grandparents own a sailboat and it’s really fun to ride along since I don’t know how to drive a sailboat myself
The ship above the vortex is the garbage ship from stranded in space.
6:33 you have summond the under world XD
