    About Trailmakers:
In the toughest motoring expedition in the universe, you and your friends will build your own vehicles to cross a dangerous wasteland. Explore, crash horribly, use your wits to build a better rig, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find on your way.
    Welcome to the Ultimate Expedition!
Journey over grueling mountains, hazardous swamps, and bone-dry deserts on a distant world far from civilization - it is just you, your fellow adventurers and the amazing, jet-powered hover-buggy you built yourself. Explore, crash your vehicle, build a better one, and get as far as you can with whatever spare parts you find along your way.
Trailmakers is about building very awesome vehicles and machines, but you don’t need an engineering degree to get started. The intuitive builder will get you going in no time. Everything you build is made from physical building blocks. Each block has unique features like shape, weight and functionality. They can be broken off, refitted and used to build something new. Individually the blocks are fairly simple, but combined the possibilities are endless.
Expedition Mode is the challenging campaign mode of Trailmakers. You are competing in an off-world rally expedition with only a few building blocks to get you started. You must build, tinker with and rebuild your machine to progress. Journey through a big world, overcome deep gorges, angry wildlife and dangerous weather to progress and find new parts that will juice up your machine. The world in Expedition Mode will test your survival skills and ingenuity.
Sandbox Mode is where you want to head for an unrestricted, sandbox, vehicle-building experience. Here you can build anything you can dream of, and play around with it in the world of Trailmakers. It is a great place to test out crazy machines, and experiment with the physics engine. With tons of different blocks, hinges, thrusters and interactive vehicle parts - the skybox is the limit.
Trailmakers is even more fun if you play it with other people. Build cool vehicles and compete in mini-game modes with your friends or other Trailmakers online. Build a helicopter, send it to your friend, and shoot them out of the sky. Put two seats on a tank, and let your friend control the turret. As we get further in Early Access development Expedition Mode will also be adapted to multiplayer.

Gonna throw a guess out there... perhaps while a vehicle is rotating on its axis, that is calculated into the speed of the creation. That is my guess why when you hit the water, the speed increased; the partial impact with the water caused the vehichle to quickly rotate, which in turn increased the speed shown. I don't know how speed is calculated in this game, and that is why it's only a guess.

10:53, the speed is calculated at the center of mass probably, since it touched water with the bottom part of the ship, it tilted down really fast, which made the center of mass go faster, like a wheel through the road, the part that is contacting the ground is at 0 speed and the opposite part of the wheel is at double of the current speed

    • @DaStuntChannel

I mean, it makes sense that ingame you break the sound barrier when you are going a certain speed relative to the ground, but shouldn't it actually be the speed relative to the wind? Wind is basically moving air, so irl you should be working in the reference frame of the wind.

The reason of you going co sisterly 724 is because of, well you said it, gravity. Considering you can’t go faster than the wind parallel to the wind, the only other way you can go faster is through gravity. But because you built a box of sails, the air resistance in all directions is basically ridiculously high, so your downwards speed is being severely limited by your ridiculous air resistance, causing you to have an extremely low terminal velocity of 4 mph (or was it kph I didn’t see). This makes the entire craft feel extremely light, because you can fall extremely slowly, which means along with auto-rotation, I believe this might be one of the most interesting ways to slow your fall (video idea?). Also, in order to reach maximum velocity, you would want to get your air resistance at the direction the wind is blowing at a maximum, while making sure the air resistance towards the direction of gravity is at a minimum. You would need to get really high on the initial jump tho because you are going to lose altitude really quickly like this.

  • @ezrarichardson279

if you are gonna use sails on propellers id suggest u also try using paddles cuz they were the fastest thing to use for props before the update, even in air compared to all the other aerodynamic parts and id suggest u use the speed glitch when u set joints to the speed -100 (use the rotating servos) cuz then youll achieve the fastest speeds.
But if u use more than i think 2 servos, they get offset form eachother so just like with ur ornithopter but underwater attempt, it will act as a reaction wheel because the servos are offset, so far the only way ive found to counteract this is just a keel if u are using it for a boat or just something that spins creating a countertorque at a certain speed.

Theory as to why you can only go 720 when you touch the water for a sec:
The game only checks if you are going 720 in one direction at a time. When you tap the water, part of the speed is going down into the water so the game keeps accelerating you in the direction of the wind. Basically, you were still going 720 following the wind but you had some more speed in a different direction that was messing with things.
aaand in the time it took me to type this you already figured this out lol

The fact that it's going sideways faster make sense because you don't have any forward drag everything is just getting carried along on the Wind. If you think of it more along the lines of fluid dynamics with fluid of the air is rushing past it so quickly that being open sideways and having your wings horizontal would carry you at least 720

The only way to get rid of them was to reload the game, which was annoying to say the least if I was trying to save a creation. I attributed it to the beta mirror mode and my not-so-fast laptop, but now I think it's a whole slew of bugs in the newest update.

If the simulation is close enough to reality, you should be able to go faster if you fly in the wind at an angle instead of going straight parallel. It is true that if you sail parallel to the wind, your maximum speed is the actual speed of the wind, but if you sail for instance at 45° then your theoretical max speed would be roughly ~1.4x the speed of the wind (Pythagoras).

If you have sails facing each other they add thrust in relatively oposing directions. If the sails are orientated the same way as eachother, the thrust will be in the same direction.
It's all based on their orientation to the winds direction. A sailboat will use a combination of mast rotation and rudders in the water to stabilize and redirect that into forward motion.
I wonder if this translates to Trailmakers accurately?

10:54 when you touched the water you went to 757. Might be a way to exploit that

Needs more wedges, imo. Point them in the direction the wind is going so you're reducing air resistance on the front.

Holy crap this is trailmakers now

  • @TheOneandOnlyKrakurnar

The reason i think you went faster when you hit the water was you were hydrofoiling basically. You skimmed the water and speed up due to wind spead.
