Safety Tip! Find a way to put a SOFT TIP on the bottom end of your center column so you don't impale yourself if you fall! I'm still experimenting with this. Also - I have an extended version of this video with hacks for low angle mode, waist-level, and side-tracking shots at Unscripted Studio. Join now! myfilm.school/tripodhack
Brandon Li Good point. Maybe using the cut off tip of a swimming noodle would provide the safety needed?

True :D some tripods are very dangerous with those hooks.
Lol paying 500 bucks to see a video during covid? My man that's harsh😂
Rukiasriot1 dude, that’s for a full course with multiple chapters!
"I don't care how I look while I shoot. I care how the footage looks after I shoot."
I mean same but also there's no way I'm doing this in front of a client
Lmao

This trick was everything it promised to be. Extremely creative use of a tripod, real reduction in the distracting camera shakes, and I got strange looks when I was walking around the house! 10/10 would recommend.
brandon is a gimbal himself. Don't be fooled guys :p

Long time since I saw a “hack” tutorial that actually shows promising results!
Confucius, he say "the stupider you look while getting it, the better the shot."
Confucius " I didn't say that"
Lol
😂😂😂
@@jeffrendered3564 that was hilarious! 😂
Also Confucius: hmmm, Ok, alright!
You see absolutely no one else thinking of these creative ways to use basic tools for filmmaking. One of the reasons I enjoy watching your stuff soo much bro! Keep them coming I love it
Hey Brandon!!! Just bought the gimbal course the other day and had my very first commercial shoot for a friend and knocked it out of the park! Thanks for all the help dude, the monopod stuff made it go from amateur to professional. Can't thank you enough!!!
Most important component is mastering the walk. Loved the creative use of the tripod. I’ve been experimenting more and more with handheld “Hollywood” look and really prefer it over gimbal. They both have their place of course.
I’ve actually done this before unintentionally, but now I can actually plan to and use this trick
That's amazing idea. So simple. I wouldn't think you can do that! Defo will try. Thanks!
That's quite funny because I've never known that someone's already invented such a way of shooting and invented it by myself a month ago due I don't have a stabilizer or even rig. But you talk about the greatly important details like "don't lay two legs on your shoulders to escape the shocks while walking" etc., that I didn't think about. So, thanks a lot! Subscribed.
I learned this from like a 7 year old video somewhere on CZcams. It’s good to see someone promote this because it’s so useful. You’ll always have sticks on an actual shoot.
Thank you so much, this works really well! I've previously tried using an extended tripod as a kind of shoulder mount, but when walking with it I had it on my shoulder and - just like you said - the vibrations from the walking were transferred over to the camera, and it was shaky as all hell. I never thought to balance it and hold it in the air, really great idea!
You are the best!! All your tricks are very useful, thanks for your content, you help a lot to many small creators
Doing that gimbal walk with sandals like a boss
gimbal walk ... marching band roll step
before I got a stabilizer, i used to just hold my camera attached to my "mildly heavy tripod" which helped quite a lot in taking out the camerashakes. not as good as using my mechanical stabilizer but pretty good
Footage looked amazing! I used to just lift my entire tripod by the center column with an A7 on it (before 1-handed gimbals became a thing) The weight seemed to do a good job of stabilizing it too from what I remember.
You are really important person for us.
You give inspiration. Your every single works are like cinema lesson
It’s all about being creative and doing what you have at the time! Great video
Love this tip! Im just getting in to cinematic film making so im still exploring. Thanks for the tip!
As someone learning about film making and aspiring to be a camera man (and to make fun short films), this is a really cool trick that i will defiantly try out thanks so much!
Thanks Brandon for showing us and inspiring us👍👍been a fan with your cinematic style!!
One of the only videos that hits this topic perfectly. Thank you!!!
Awesome! Just tried it with my peak design tripod and loved it. Gonna test it out more this weekend
love this video so much man, watched it so many times
Everytime I come back to your channel I learn great stuff! I bought the Vanguard VEO 204CB tripod about a year ago! I barely use it but I got it because it was a carbon fiber tripod for about $50! I figured I could use it for lights or holding modifiers or something and haven't really touched it since I got it! You just Rocked the best reason I spent that fifty bucks! It's perfect for a lot of shooting I do! Thanks Brandon!
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for this Brandon, I'll be putting this trick to use for sure!
Best advice ever out if all I've looked at for gimbal alternative. Well taught.
Super useful. I was looking for how to improve this. Thank you for the video and well thought out teaching.
I don't think this is something I've considered before, nice idea! It's good because tripods are much easier to come by than other types of gear. In a pinch someone could go to a big box store to get one if they needed to do impromptu video work.
3:28 "I don't care how I look while I shoot. I care how the footage looks after I shoot."
I'm going to put that line on a shirt
the best line ever.
Absolutely
