    The Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah, are, for all intents and purposes, an ordinary family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of Marty, a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks.

    This is why knowing the law is so important. Had Marty not known the law about the reserve requirement for banks or the potential result of public mistrust in a banking system he would have never been able to make those threats and would have never even made it past the initial "sir we can't get you that money" while he was on the phone. Dude would have just hung up the phone and sat down on his bed crying because the bank said they can't get his money. On top of that he knew how to liquidate his firm and all of his assets to put together the $8 million in less than 48 hours. Marty's a pretty smart guy ;)

    I liked all of the mismatched bags and luggage he took into the bank to pack the money into. It reminds me of years ago when I purchased a car and the seller would only take cash. It was only like $12,000 but my bank asked me to give them 3 days to get it from their off site vault. When I arrived three days later, they made me sign a paper stating it was dangerous to take out that much cash and they were not responsible for any losses if I got robbed on my way to the car after exiting their branch with that much money. They did not make it easy, but they were polite and professional. Basically, banks do like advanced notice of more than just a few hours if you want to withdraw any substantial amount of money.

      jimbob jammers assuming every bill is a $100 a single bill = 1 gram. There’s 10,000 $100 bills in 1 million, 1000 grams is 1 kilogram so 1 million dollars in $100 bills is 10kg, Marty had 8 so assuming the bank only gave him those bills he had 80kg or about 176lb (I know it’s slightly less because he only had 7,994,000 in cash but I can’t do the math on that in my head quickly so cba to work it out, if you want to then all the info needed to do the completely accurate math is in the comment)

    In the real world, fed would have just followed him and his meeting with Del would have linked him to money laundering right? Even if they allowed him to walked out of the bank with all that money. This action pretty much paints a target on him by the fed as a person of interests.

    while this this was a cool scene to watch, I have no idea how the FBI couldn't set up like a wire tap at the very least on Marty because of this shit. They sent one agent out to follow a guy who liquidated 8mil all at once like wtf

    • @anth5541
      @anth5541 Před 3 lety +17

      Because the reality is, wire taps, surveillance and tails require warrants. Warrants come from judges. Judges ask questions. And any judge would ask “did you witness a crime?” “Does he have a criminal record?” “Is there any evidence to support the possibility of a crime that might be committed?”... and the answer to all three would be No. so no warrant would be signed and life would move on.

    Richard Pryor was extremely poor his whole life until finally he started making big money all at once. One afternoon, he went to the bank and withdrew a million dollars. He took it down the street and deposited it at another bank. When asked why he'd done that, Richard said, “I wanted to see if the money was really mine.”
