The Byrdes and their teenage kids, Charlotte and Jonah, are, for all intents and purposes, an ordinary family with ordinary lives. Except for the job of Marty, a Chicago financial advisor who also serves as the top money launderer for the second largest drug cartel in Mexico. When things go awry, Marty must uproot his family from the skyscrapers of Chicago and relocate to the lazy lake region of the Missouri Ozarks.

Hell yes great line, but she played victim again.
“It’s not the first time she stole from you, it’s the first time you caught her” wow
It's quite funny how she didn't deny any of this later regarding this statement.
Was this subtext for Wendy and being unfaithful with possibly other men? Silly, I know. Just never hit me. Just thought Del asking Marty was really for the audience to see Marty's perspective and how smart or a cut above everyone he is with his answer.
@@jophillips1464 del is pointing out the similarities in this moment in Marty’s life and his father’s store. Wendy definitely cheated multiple times and this is the first time she’s been caught

It may just be a TV show, but this is the kind of stuff that applies to real life. I've been there. If they cheat, get out. Get out now. It may not happen in again in a week, or a month, or a year...but it'll happen again. Get out.
It’s an old saying

@Forced to take a picture with my wifes son I never in my life heard that until I watch this show and I'm old af I'm 30 and never in my life heard that phrase
30 is not "old af". The fact that you're so uncultured that you've never heard of this idea is nothing to brag about.
I need someone to do a compilation of all the times Marty gets genuinely mad and starts ranting in his car cuz those are the BEST SCENES

Incorrect. Gary was a lawyer - After Wendy basically fills Gary in on what it is that Marty does (Not coming right out and saying it, but basically admitting to shady dealings) Gary advises her that she should withdraw as much as she could from her bank before the Fed’s rolled in and froze their assets. Gary was killed for knowing too much. Wendy was solely responsible for his death by opening her mouth. And that’s just further proved by Del’s comment “You lied to me, Marty. She knows about our business.”
@@jimmycrack221 Thanks for clarifying. I too thought she was trying to take the money and run.

This scene reminds you that Wendy is the original “criminal” in Marty’s life…. She was relentless before Marty’s involvement in the cartel. You can easily forget this as each season passes but she is the craziest of all.
Especially after Ben. Bruh
martys been working for the cartel since 2007 in the show, but yeah wendy isnt innocent. however she is an integral part of why marty is alive

She is the Walter White of this show.
@@ADM-wt9cn OMFG I was just saying yesterday Ruth is the Jesse Pinkman of this show
Said this before, I'll say it again -- scriptwriters should have never killed off Del so quickly in the series. His chemistry with Marty (and the incredible acting of Esai Morales) could have lasted several more seasons to the effect you see in this scene. Absolutely chilling.
I agree with this, they did it way too early.
Agreed. A brilliantly cold, menacing and savvy character thrown away for a cheap shock.
I agree. But they only killed him off upon his own request. Because he took a new movie project on with Tom cruise in the new mission impossible movie. Tom cruise asked him how soon he could join for shooting and given those exciting news he decided to speak to the showrunners and writers to kill him off. A lot of people dont know that.
Honestly, Delom should’ve been the drug lord of the cartel. Navarro wasn’t nearly close of being as intimidating as Del was.
Why the fuck did i start reading the comments. Fuck
Del's death was shocking and definitely raised the stakes for the show. I still wish he woulda been around longer. The mutual respect del and Marty had for each other was honestly one of a kind. They probably coulda been great friends in a different world
Del was an asshole who threatened and had his workers killed, don't forget that
I was thinking there del will kill those jangli but those jungli kill del 🤣
@@pi4313 Well that's just Del's means to an end. They betrayed him, he killed them. I'm sure he would have killed Marty if he didn't play his cards right or was stealing, too. That doesn't mean he doesn't respect his incredible skill at his line of work. The respect he had was earned by being the best in his field and washing a ton of money, but that didn't exlude Marty from being just a loose end if he wasn't useful anymore.
That would've been the case had it not been for Bruce (that to be fair Del did warn Marty about in the flashback episode)
@@igkgigoh There is no respect in telling a man who had nothing to do with the initial theft that he will "kill you and your family....and not in that order" if you don't do what he wants. Oh and don't forget he killed an innocent woman first just to get everyone's attention.
He was the darkest part of the cartel, and sadly, he's pretty much based on true stories.

That’s what I love about this show. It can feel a little boring at times but man when a violent scene pops up it’s reeeally violent and abrupt. As it naturally would be in real life.
The first episode is the best hour of television in my opinion.

Fun Fact: The apartment that Wendy and Del are in is indeed Aqua Apartments, located in the New East Side neighborhood in Chicago. It has the wavy balconies that you can see at 3:11. However, the building Marty approaches and Gary falls out of is called MILA, located a few blocks away in The Loop.

The betrayal from his wife when she cheated and running out with his money in savings.. Marty has balls of steel. No matter how fucked up things get, he finds a solution, cleans up everyone's messes, and never loses his cool. Imagine never having a moment to relax, literally for lack of time to do so. You'd think waterfront property in the Ozark's would induce a little downtime, but nope. Even there he was scheduled for electrocution and now with Javi determined to kill him, even those waters aren't calming. He also REALLY loves his kids, unlike Wendy who places conditions on them for her "love". SHE MUST DIE.
Like Saul Goodman
Imagine how different things would have been if Marty told Del, “Take care if her.”
Yep 👍and Marty would have falling in love with Rachel who is basically a better woman in heart then Wendy and in the end of season 2 Marty and Rachel and the kids would of gotten on the plane with a ton of money and head to a deep secluded place in Australia to live a crime free life ! 🇺🇲🇮🇹🇲🇽

Truth is that he never would have gotten the money moved in time without Wendy. Maybe they survive with his plan, but it's shown repeatedly that the cartel can find you anywhere if they want to.

At that height of 80 floors, the skull would have exploded like a watermelon. Maybe too graphic for Netflix.

There's also the platform movie which is pretty graphic I would say
Tu Ho You’re right. I’ve thrown guys off only 60 floors and the heads explode.
Too graphic for Netflix? You seen the punisher, walking dead or the Witcher?
Actually I doubt it. if you look up the most beautiful suicide, it shows a woman that jumped off from the observation deck of the empire state building completely intact. It's only after they were going to move her that she turned into jelly and fell apart. So this is fairly realistic imo
I love how Marty is saying "I will show you the meaning of ugly" right before Gary slaps the pavement 😂
It's a trap and Marty knows it. One of the things about criminal psychology is to know that one of the most important questions you can ask someone, who you suspect of committing a crime, is how they would handle a situation in which they get to decide the punishment of someone who has committed a crime of the same caliber. The best answer you can give is a logical action against them. In this case, he asks Marty, "What should my father do?" Marty knows the answer and it makes sense. If this woman was willing to steal 5 pesos when no one is looking, why wouldn't she still more when the opportunity arises? The reality, if this women has been employed for 20 years, other opportunities to steal have happened. Marty's wife isn't the one that Del has to worry about and Marty knows that while the gun is pointed at her, she's not in immediate danger. It's Marty. If he says to go lightly on his wife, Del knows that he was lying about his involvement with the skim that his partners were committing. His answer is based on his determination to survive. Conveniently, his wife is cheating on him, however he knows that if Del kills her, it risks his investigation, imprisonment, and death in prison (by assassination.) He spares his wife, not because he wants to but because he has too. What a well written pilot. Incredible.
This is the moment the show pulled most people in. Great acting besides an unsuspecting moment. So good

Marty's initial reaction to the Aunt Carlotta riddle is the only reason Del considered leaving him alive to go to the Ozarks in the first place. Bruce and the father/son owners of the trucking company kept saying give her another chance, put her on probation (lol), etc. and in the moment they completely missed he was talking about THEM.
The reaction Marty had about standing up to Del confirmed he didn't know about the stealing. LIkewise, his correct answer here saved Wendy's life. Love how the dialogue about it being "the first time you caught her" was initially for Bruce and co. but now is about Wendy.

Go back to the beginning right before he shoots that other wife in the bathroom. Del tells a small story
@@FarhanAli-dq8eh I remember it. It’s the woman who was stealing from Del’s Dad, and Del wanted his opinion on what to do with her. When Marty said “ fire her” because it wasn’t the first time she stole just the first time she got caught, He was really talking about his wife’s infidelity. “Fire her” sounded like it meant kill her.
Del was testing Marty’s wits here.
