I've learned a lot from Davie about Tying Flies. The Mcphail Caddis Pupa is one of my all time favorite flies to tie, and they're some of the most impressive in my fly box. However one thing I cannot understand is how he so easily breaks off the excess thread after wrapping the shank. I try every time and it never works. Thanks for all the great videos Davie! much love from the waters of Montana.

Just going to tie some more of these as my son has used up all the old ones. They were very successful.
I hope you are going to tie some more Clyde style and North Country spider patterns with your new vids. Thanks again for all the inspiration and encouragement.

Great fly. Can you show how to tie the mamba at some point. I am a solid follower of your tying

  • @scotsmaninthephilippines1659

Watch'n this I'm thinking of all the beads I've horsed out the window just because they wouldn't get on the hook!

Hi Davie, is it 5lb nylon you are using? i have tried 5,6, and 8lb but cant manage to get the wee ball when melting it, what kind of nylon are you using, great video and good tip for the beads.
    Regards, Tommy.

Hi Davie, thanks for another great session, but what advantage is the loop of nylon?
    Thanks Malcolm

      Hi Malcolm,
Using this knot will make your fly swim even more natural than a standard knot and as well you'll find the knot strength is better as well...I'm glad you enjoyed the video...
      All the very best Davie

Could this nymph be tyed with natural pheasant tail?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 5 lety

      Hi angel camarero,
Yes it would work fine with the pheasant tail fibre for the tail, it's one of my favourite materials when it comes to tying nymphs...
      All the very best Davie...

Would you be better off using that knot for jig flies :)

      Hi Jay Maher,
When I buy tungsten beads I get many that will not go round the hook due to the holes not being formed properly so this is how I use them up and at the same time I get a good nymph pattern..
      All the very best Davie..

@@DavieMcPhail wish I would've thought of that sooner the amount off times being stabbed by the point by forcing the bead on lol
