"If you're not happy, always go back". Took me 3 years of tying to learn this. Even Mr McPhail needs to retreat once in a while. Appreciate his humility.

I like this pattern! I use a Draper hook so that it has a flat body. I build a web of thread and I add some adhesive lead tape to the fly, cut to fit top and bottom then I tie it down, cement again and continue making it. I wish they still made the Draper hook, it is a fair frame for tying a Stonefly nymph. I also tie dries on them as well!

Thank you again for yet another excellent video Davie. And thank you for the advise on the vices and tools. It turns out that one of the links you sent me is to a store (the bears den) that is 35 minutes from where I live. I went there yesterday and it's amazing. And so is the owner. I'm glad the Internet makes us all neighbors in a way. Thank you again

Great pattern, fooled a fit 20+ brown with this golden stoner in North Western USA, after it refused the tiny bwo dry and emerger I was using. I did get some on your emerger patterns too. Thanks a bunch Davie. You've helped inspire me to return to the tying bench after many years, thanks again. Mac Davis

Superb! I know it's not one of "our" flies, but I really enjoyed watching those well considered techniques. There are some big stoneflies on the Welsh Dee, but darker, so same techniques, darker materials.
Thanks as always for another inspiring video!

    Hey Davie,
I'm new to tying and your videos are awesome. I was wondering how important is it to use the exact materials you use in the videos. My entymology is getting better, but most times simply can't "see" the bug in the "fly" if that makes sense.
Thanks again for being so generous with your knowledge and patterns. For the record, I live 15 yds from the mighty Yakima River in Washington State and you're welcome to throw some bugs anytime you find yourself near Washington State.

Dave I LOVE the video's man. I just wanted to give you a thumbs up and also, did you know that UTC doesn't sell yellow olive anymore. I cant find it anywhere. there is a light olive by UNI that is very close. do you know if 8/0 UNI is closer to UTC 70 or 140 in size?

Wow, I really like your stonefly nymph pattern. Where can I get the thin lead foil? That makes such a slender weighted underbody! Also, do you dye your partridge feathers for the legs or buy them already yellow?
    Thanks!
