Celtic 0 - Rangers 1 - March 1997 - Hateley's Coming Home

- A depleted Rangers team travelled to Parkhead knowing defeat would close the gap at the top of the table to only two points but a battling performance effectively sealed '9-in-a-row'. With a number of injuries, Mark Hateley was brought back to the club while Andy Dibble made his debut. Brian Laudrup scored the only goal of the game just before half-time and in the second half Hateley and Malky Mackay were sent off. Paulo di Canio was sent off after the final whistle after running away from Ian Ferguson.

Class, kicked the fuck out of laudrup and he just kept getting up and running the show WATP
As a Pompey and Rangers fan...Hateley was a great goal scorer!
Love the guy in the crowd at half time 04:25 giving it the BooHoo and crying tears hand signals LOL
Ha ha legend
Laudrop owned this game! Great memories 💙🇬🇧
I'm a Celtic fan but I'm sure I speak for both Celtic AND Rangers fans in saying I wish Old Firm games were still like this - 200 miles per hour, unbelievable tension and sheer venom from start to finish. Old Firms games haven't been like this for years, it's felt pretty diluted.
Yeah I’m a neutral and in America but I always tried to watch the Old Firm as much as possible from when I was a kid in the 90s. Definitely seems more tame as of late. I think Football in general is tame these days though. To be honest I prefer watching old games usually to modern games. Everything is so sterile now. Not a lot of individual skill and personality to players now. It’s all tactics and run run run. Players seem softer now too and the refs are a lot quicker to card for a hard challenge.
You don’t speak for both. Rangers are dead. SEVCO are in their place now and they have a share dilution every 18 months!HH
@@NotanothersharedilutionRangers are still the same club with the same history!!.
Am a Rangers fan and i agree with you mate. 👍
Opposition fans need to be allowed back in
ah right at the start Phil O'Donnell
am a rangers fan but god rest your soul, Phil
Laudrup was on a different planet to anyone on that pitch
When the commentator says “ugly scenes at Celtic park”surely that’s the case every week!😂
Mind they all got letters telling them to get a wash before coming to games so the piggery isnt just full of ugliness it also reeks of 6 day old sweat , unwiped arses, cheap oirish whiskey and potatoes
@Brendan W Erm... Aren't you forgetting a wee something, there, aloisis? October 1994, perhaps? Or, do we just not discuss any of that Pacific Shelf 595 stuff that seems to have been casually swept under that ever bulging rug of shame belonging to those of a green and grey point of view...? As for the notion of your vermin club reaching a supposed "10 in a row", wouldn't one, by logical prerequisite, have had to have first accomplished winning 9, as opposed to being handed a very dubious alleged "9th" title by what is widely known as the single most corrupt national football association in all of European football? Or, perhaps that is something else you degenerates like to sweep under the aforementioned rug of shame?
@Brendan W Actually, all my points stand, had you of actually read them. And, lol, I am no "lad".
not really anymore.
10 in row?aye right!😂😂
There's nothing better to watch than Brian Laudrup running rings around the whole Celtic team. BY FAR, the best player to EVER wear the famous light blue jersey of Glasgow Rangers !
laudrup tore them to ribbons 😊 WATP.
Can't stop watching these derbies. The best rivalry on the entire planet.I hope Rangers comes back so I can watch these magnificent games here in Australia in the early hours of the morning.
+Jellybeantiger We will be back soon!

haha taking the piss out of the huddle brilliant!!!!!!
Laudrup the dribbling genius
Henrik Larsson was better than Laudrup.
Laudrup - simply a genius. Larsson too.
But this particular game look at the changes and EVERYTHING they had, they threw at us😂, confidence is everything!! and our much changed side well. History now but do we just discard history? Don't be ridiculous. Cannot wait for 55 this season - it's coming home and all the septic fans know it and are already spitting the dummy. Most want Lennon out. The Rangers were away for a bit but now STEVIE G HAS DONE SO WELL BUILDING A TEAM THAT ARE A GOOD SIDE, GETTING THE BEST FROM ALL HIS PLAYERS AND YOU CAN SEE HE'S PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS JOB. NOT LOOKING FORWARD TO THE DAY WHEN LIVERPOOL COME CALLING THO, WHICH WILL INEVITABLY HAPPEN, ALTHOUGH WE'LL BE SAD TO SEE HIM GO WE'LL COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND AND BE PROUD OF THE TROPHIES HE'LL UNDOUBTEDLY BRING US. ♥️🤍💙🇬🇧
@@cariza5 😂😂 quality anymore jokes while you're talking pish? 1 He couldn't lace Laudrup's boots, he was a cracking player no doubt but be serious FFS. Take off they green, white & orange specs. Fool you probably didn't even know that was the colours of the flag of the country you want to belong t. I'll break it down for you, it's rather simple really. Green for the South orange for the North and white in the middle for PEACE!!! Learnt that in P6.
Plus 2 different players all together!! But logic clearly has no relevance here by your initial statement. But thank you I needed a laugh🤣🤣♥️🤍💙🇬🇧
@@118B Larsson was much superior than Laudrup, he also played for the bigger club's and yes Scottish independence all the way.
@@cariza5 Just an out an out complete twat!! How did we go from comparing 2 players to mentioning politics? I'm just leaving the jokes to you - 🤡
Brilliant players on both sides to be fair. Cadete, McStay and especially Dicanio were very good. Laudrup, Gough, and Albertz were different class for Rangers. Those were the days.
Best player to grace Scotland by a mile Brian laudrup he was such a selfless player would skin everybody then give someone a tap in all about the team absolute loved that guy very surprised he never became a coach biggest steal we ever had
Kenny Dalglish, Gazza, etc etc
You mean Larsson
Fergie had Di Canio wrapped round his finger that day
I miss football
Laudrup the best Rangers player ever
+Alex Kerr Are you forgeting Trevor Steven ? most underrated player ever
housecarl6 no he was a great player but Laudrup was the best even topping Gazza
100% agree, best ger ever
I think you're forgetting gascoigne and cooper
Baxter, Willie Johnston, Sandy Jardine, Durrant, Gough even Albertz. It's mince, good shout out for Steven, the English Gary McCallistet.
Di Canio, Kanchelskis Member when Scottish football was awesome.
annoni's tackle on lauders was a red card !!
Absolutely bloody wonderful!!
What that match needed was a bit more commitment from the players🤪. Man of the match- Hugh Dallas; imagine trying to keep a lid on that.
I was there loved it
I would like most love to go to and old firm game. Supporting Rangers of course 😃
Get yerself up here as there ain't no game in the world like it,the closest you'll get is in River n Boca Argentina for the passion of shear rip that bastards head off aff feeling, the famous for life,a way of life!.
@David Baird Even better a European final supporting Rangers 🥰
I am in awe of Laudrup😱♥️
You have to love old firm games. Im gonna have to goto one soon. Im English, chelsea blue 100% butlove the atmosphere atold firm games. Cannot be beaten.
youll need to go in the manky end. rangers end tickets are gold dust
Big Jock Knew !!!
oh big jock knew ! big jock knewoo, oh big jock knew
Bit of a side issue here, but......Alan Stubbs and Ian Durrant on opposite teams both wearing number 9 before squad numbers were introduced - that must surely be a first - a central defender and a central midfielder? Can't imagine there's been any games before where something similar happened? Would love to know if anyone knows anything similar.
Brian Laudrup! What a player!!!
I've still never seen anyone who kicks with the power of Albertz
@Knackers I heard that Fergie offered Di Fanio a one on one away from prying eyes back in the stadium and Foulo was off down the London Road faster then a rocket.
Thats defannyo 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧😭🇬🇧😭🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Lovely watching Di Fanio in action again
LOL because of that guy @ 4:24. xD
Not a supporter of any of these clubs but what an atmosphere! Intense stuff!
5:47 - Stubbs stamps on the back of Laudrups neck/back on the follow through no?? No replay shown, Laudrup gets up to start on him but then just walks away, classy.
Tore them a new at the piggery. Ahhh brilliant. 🔴⚪️🔵
Brilliant stuff
That was a spirited match!
You never seen the photo of savile, jock stein, desmond white all together holding a cup its taken round about the early 70s
lol!!! and big jock knew and big jock knew!
We must sing this at the games! Jim'll fix it theme tune with new/better words!
Di Canio acting like a hardman. Fergie would have snapped him in 2. Great day winning the league at Torbett Towers.
Love the Gers huddle!!!! GIRUY!!!!
Cracking game to have attended
Hately fucking legend
this is real love to the shirt.
agreed. The only two exceptions have been the last one at Ibrox and the night game at parkhead in 2008
52 seconds, great free kick :)
3:24 with the fan is so good xx
Look at the state of the wee guy Di Canio: he fell for it and we just laughed! Fergie made a fool of him that day, but not quite as much as Andy Goram did at The Lodge, hitting him three times in quick sussession with the ball, much to the merriment of The Bears!
💙🇬🇧👍
What game was that? I remember Goram hitting him with the ball but can’t remember which game.
Very much a collectors item. A Dibble clean sheet
Man, that was a "depleted" Rangers team, was it? Not compared to the one we have now, it wasn't...
oh how glorious
Exactly what we miss! Durrant and Ferguson! We miss that passion.
Halliday is close but not quite.....
Rangers have definitely had more better players than celtic in their history
PDC was amazing! Imagine that effort went in, it would have been the best ever old firm goal
BOLLOCKS
😂😂😂 Ian Clark you’re a comedian
Someone been sniffing glue again
Couldn’t handle the king 👑 ran them silly that day. Big Hateley too 🔴⚪️🔵
At least we won the league when it was finished, and each year we had full competition lol
Electric atmosphere.
Robert Watt LBB RIP Miss You!

Peter Grant up straight away and dusted himself down.Samaras against Benfica down like a bag of spuds Thats the diffrence with football nowadays what a cheat
makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up watching this!
I bet the atmosphere was electric
How can you call that a depleted rangers line up?
We tore septic apart that day 🇬🇧
Was our keeper Andy Dibble that day ?
Was his first game for Rangers apparently.
@@ollymuirs he was a lone deal , think all our keepers got injuries
@@shady.219 wee bit before my time, born ‘01. Love hearing about our 9iar
Shit, the intensity is palpable. The challenges were intense.
Who was the Rangers manager?
Nobody has the COPYRIGHT TO GOAL CELEBRATING ROUTINE OR HUDDLE. I WATCHED HUDDLES IN BASKETBALL UNDER 15S DOWN TO THE 2ND YEAR TEAM AT MAGHERAFELT HIGH WIN LOSE OR DRAW.
Why is it commentator says ugly scenes when rangers are celebrating ?
Im a fan of football. I WATCHED TOMMY BURNS PLAY AND I WATCHED TOMMY MANAGE IN 1996 TOMMY BURNS HAD THAT CELTIC TEAM PLAYING BETTER & ATTRACTIVE FOOTBALL THAN FROM 6TH DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF ANY TOP LEAGUE. SADLY FOR CELTIC AND TOMMY THAT DIDNT GET REWARDS.LOOK GUYS IVE HUGE RESPECT FOR A LOT OF SCOTTISH FOOTBALLERS In any game some win some lose some draw. Its hard when you see so many great performances and your team lose but IF you Cant take a beating and you get on like this YOU BECOME AN AFFRONT. Thats fact
ah the good old days of old firm derbires- played at 100mph from start to finish
yes
The state of Kerr trying to thro his weight about lol
Listen to the crowd... never been so good since.
‘Di Canio’s lost the place’. No surprise
why??
De Canio total animal..
Di Canio could have scored one of the greatest goals in the history of football.
have Celtic ever lost gracefully - the answer is no
It's always somebody else's fault when celtic lose.
dead and buried, Celtic live on.
Absolutely vile establishments
Job done ....WATP
Di canio was the only Celtic player not to go to the players lounge after the gam! Some hard man eh?
I no he did not because ian ferguson would of killed him he is lucky was on a ban could not touch the ars hole ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Fergie was on a ban 🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧🥁🇬🇧
Mark Hateley was about 40 here and he still bodied the Celtic defence
he retired before 40 and he was playing at some other club
Great coming across these historical videos of the mighty Celtic. Shame there is a different club occupying the Crumbledome these days. SevCo have someways to go to fill the boots of the mighty DeadCo. HH....10 in a row, here we go.
You stopped at 8.75
ha ha ha terry munro is long dead ya eejit
If Albertz smashed one of these new light footballs he'd be done with a firearms act
I cannot understand as a alleged n ire man but as an ire man what ? we r the same people ....it about football...grew up a celt but respect the blue noses, without either there would be neither
They literally beat the shit out of Laudrup

As a Hearts fan,I hate to admit I miss theses games,Scottish football is truly poor, but what like many don't miss is there fans, but not all Rangers fans are hateful, like many a club we all have idiots fans, and many a Hearts games I have seen shamful seens with surpose Hearts fans,so hears to next year with Rangers and Hibs

McNamara was the little back stabbing shit in this match.
classic. but a lot messier in this day.
This when football when football was still a mans sport were you could tackle, and the other teams were not as amateur, and they were great players, even if you didn't support the Glasgow teams ,you still knew the players.
