Always respect for Scotland at Elland Road due to Don's greats. Bremner, Lorimer, Frank and Eddie Gray, Stewart, Jordan, McQueen. M.H goal was terrific technique and anyone would have been proud of that flying header from Sally. Some great players on that park, for Leeds too. So does show how much of an achievement it was. And it was a much better competition back then too. When football was played but still could have a meaty challenge too. What happened to Scottish football? Back then our teams were full of Scottish players and it was much more of a challenge to win the league. Nevermind a run like that in Europe. Both have made 1 final appearances. What changed?

There was still a bit of a gap in those days between the English top teams and Scottish top teams but nothing at all like it is today. It's two completely different animals today but it was the beginnings of it back in this era of sporting history. They gave rangers no chance in the English press for this game even after the ibrox result. It was seen as a fluke and it would be a case of how many? For Leeds utd unless I've got it wrong but I'm sure anyone alive and read the newspapers at the time would confirm. Don't know if anyone that age would be online

English/British kids are good enough to play in their own country @ domestic league(s). I THINK the problem is (and I don't know why) but domestic players command more cash for their services. Look @ players like H.Maguire or L.Shaw @ UTD for example. Their on eye watering cash PER WEEK because both can say their England Internationals, one of which has won the league. For what their on, I'd want a bit more on their CV. So might as well go to the continent, get someone unheard of who's got potential, fingers crossed he had one or two good seasons then sell him on for stupid money. In the modern game, most PL clubs can't afford to buy or keep (currently AVFC & J.Grelish, remember J.Rodwell & Everton, Scott Sinclair, Titus Bramble) half decent domestic talent and especially IF their not performing.

Absolutely! Its a testament to how good Rangers were at that time that they beat this Leeds side home and away because its just household name after household name! Also very sad that both ourselves and Celtic have been left behind by the modern money ball era that we are currently in. I feel things these days just aren't a true definition of success. Football back then was a much more level playing field with great players spread across so many leagues. Now due to being such big fish in a tiny little pond that generates very little revenue its such a big ask to compete with any of the big boys.
