I so hate all those people who say "how could she win"! She was the winner from the very beginning! She is a queen and I am so proud of her! I will always listen to this song) love from Ukraine) and Jake's Face, I love your reacts) thank you)
Many acts bring "shocking" stuff every year, if the song is crap people will not respond. This song was powerful as fuck, classy and her performance was so heartfel. I also loved Conchita did not have any backing vocals. It was just her pouring her heart out. I did not appreciate the song as much the year it won because the contest sort happened in a blur for me. Now I watch this performance and get goosebumps.
It's a bit novelty because of the beard but she would have never won unless because of her voice! She won first and foremost because of her amazing voice and her brilliant performance. And that people in Europe unanimosely stood behind Conchita and her performance. They wanted to demonstrate that it doesn't matter who sings, male or female, no discrimination. So it was a real victory for everybody living in Europe thanks to Conchita and her bravery!
The song, composition, lyrics, instrumentation, it is all song contest perfection. Very Bond. The point I am always making is the song could have won with any good performer, but Conchita knocked it out of the park.
You are watching a video of the performance after she won. My favorite performance of this song was the semifinal version. This is the winner I am most happy with since I’ve been watching the Eurovision 🙂
Just have to say that I love your Eurovision reaction videos. You’re respectful to the show and the performers (when there are so many haters), and your message about Conchita’s impact on people brought a tear to my eye. Eurovision is about diversity, love and acceptance. I’ve been lucky enough to go to two of them and your thoughts are spot on.
This was such a well deserved winner. Conchita, her vocals, the lyrics, music and staging were a perfect match. I am so drawn to the line "Seeking rather than vengeance Retribution". There were quite a few great entries that year. Some of my other favourites from 2014 are: Aram MP3 - 'Not alone'(Armenia) Carl Espen - 'Silent storm'(Norway) Sanna Nielsen - 'Undo' (Sweden) The common linnets - 'Calm after the storm' (The Netherlands). Belittleing an entry instead of trying to see why the winning (or better scoring) act might have had an upper hand over a personal favourite. Is an unfortunate reaction, but it is the easy route to take - so I'm not surprised that it is popular. Now, I don't agree with the audience booing any contestants for things that the artists have nothing to do with and that are happening outside of the contest. But if you have a look at the presentation of the votes or footage from the press room at that night. You will hear that it was a emotionally charged evening and a very important win. Oh, no just one more winner to go and then you'll be up-to-date on them...for this decade :D
Mira Bai Let's be serious. This was ugly, really grotesque. He sang good, I don't say he didn't, but if he would be dressed in a smoking with tie he would't take the trophy (he would be probably in the first ten, yes, but not the first one). There were other better singers.
Mari Ana A deserved win for me is when an act gets the highest points and a well deserved one is when the act is a strong and cohesive entirity. Feel free to remind me of the last time that you can think of when the win has gone to the strongest vocalist in the competition.
I love this song sooooooo much!!!! It's gorgeous song, melody, stage performance, vocals! It's not just a face or image. It was unforgettable 😍😍😍listening it and now.
This song and performance are just amazing and her voice is just stunning. I'm glad you are watching and liking the winner songs of previous years, it will give you some context of the contest.
I love this video as it reminded me what a cleverly constructed song it was - even though it's 4 years old the 3 minutes flew by. It also made me tearful again.
And with this reaction, you gained a subscriber in me. Been watching a couple of videos previously to this one, but this sealed the deal. Well played, sir. :)
Beyond all the hype about the beard I think this is a really good song, with a powerful message. I am very glad that you can objectively see that and not just a "beared lady" who won just because the controversy.
The beard maybe helped, but the song would have had great chances anyway. Ps: after you watched all these winners you should really check out Love Love Peace Peace (Eurovision 2016), it's a bit of a parody of many Eurovision songs. It's also really catchy.
She is a character of a bearded lady... In real life he is a man called Tom Neuwirth and he's a very successful designer... Eurovision is a maze because usually it doesn't bring up people who are top artists (in terms of fame) and that's awesome!
2012, 2013, 2014 was really the hattrick of Eurovison. The best 3 songs by far in modern times. And in 2014 we were all a little gay for Conchita for one night.
Prices of LCD screens back in 2009 were a LOT more expensive than in 2011. But anyway, I googled it and it was Baku 2012 since they built the Baku Crystal Hall just for that.
Isn't it a wonderful event? I was living in the US until 1986 and knew nothing about it...and then moved to Greece and...I was like huh? this is awesome!
Very powerful voice and lyrics. I adore James Bond themes and that's why I do love this song. I love it even more than Adele and Sam Smith's Bond themes
Do watch 2014’s runner up for a superb song and also very different staging than normal. It is The Common Linnets (Waylon was part of that) and the song is called Calm After The Storm written by the lead guitar player in this performance.
this was one of the best stages too. a lot of very nice stagings that year.... could you please also react to the number 2 that year (Netherlands - Common Linnets - Calm after the storm, the first time Waylon entered)
Not only is a great song, she sung it better than the recording at the semi-finals she sung it even better at the finals. The version you’re watching is the victory performance when she changes some of the lyrics, from I to We. Still an amazing version
I still believe the semi final performance was by far the best. It was way more emotional. I think during the last part she almost started crying because she gave her all. So imo the semi final performance is the most authentic, it has its flaws yes but I love everyone of them and for me they make the song even better.
You should see her perform This is me from the Greatest Showman (sung live infront of the Brandenburger Tor in Berlin at Welcome 2018). She has amazing pipes (especially if you consider that her is actually a him)
I think for me 2014 was one of the strongest years. My favourite stage, I remember a lot of the songs years later & a good winner. Not to mention it introduced me to my all time favourite band Softengine (Finland) which I am ever grateful for bc their music is amazing af. I think 2006-14 was the golden years personally bc it was generally fun, it wasn't taken too seriously like now & had humorous parody acts. Although if it's chart music we're aiming for 2014+ as it became more mainstream (at least where I live it did)
Netherlands and Austria where my favorite that year. And when conchita won i was only happy cause one of my 2 favorites won because in Eurovision you never know whats going to happen :)
It would be great if you can react to the runner up of that year: The Common Linnets (The Netherlands). Waylon (participating for the second time in 2018) was part of the Common Linnets. It is an amazing song!
I wasn't much taken with the typical "favourites" in 2014 (Sweden's "Undo", Armenia's "Not alone", the Netherlands' "Calm after the storm") and I'm from Austria, so I didn't even entertain the thought that Conchita might win (Austria hadn't won for fifty or so years at that point, I couldn't really see it happening that year). But there are some performances you should definitely check out: - Latvia - Cake to bake (you'll think it's silly, I think, and the quality is a bit questionable, but I think it was a really cute, sweet song) - Iceland - No prejudice (I love the message and it's just a fun song) - Switzerland - Hunter of stars (I really like the song and I was honestly so impressed by the whistling!) - Norway - Silent storm (Great song and great vocalist) - Israel - Same heart (I'm repeating myself, but great song and great vocalist) - Poland - My Słowianie - We Are Slavic (just... watch it. I've heard apparently it was a parody of something or other, but I'm not sure. in any case, it certainly... is a performance. Also, the song is actually not at all terrible)
Some would say she only won because of the beard, which I also disagree with. But it's a part of it. She would have lost if the song wasn't good of course, but the beard is a part of it. It's the whole package.
Who she is and what she looked like made the song a lot more powerful to a lot of people who normally wouldn't have really thought much of the song. Of course people like you who probably just really liked the song voted for her, but that's not the same for everybody who did, I know a ton of people who voted for her because of the whole message of the song and how powerful it was to them to see a drag queen with a beard being beautiful and owning the stage without being a joke.
well then everbody should just sing with no screen efects and dancers, just their voice, all what is on the stage is there to help the song, if she used a beard, it's part of the performance and it's ok just as many others used the "love story" factor
@@alftuvik3820 I'm sure that's true. On the other hand, if you look at the countries that gave Austria no points (or only a few points), it seems hard to believe that the "beard" didn't *also* cost her some points. So I think in the end it evens out
Btw Eurovision 2014 was hosted less then 30 km away from Eurovision 2013 place. It’s because Swedish city Malmö is very close to Danish capital Copenhagen.
You should react to the top 3 of 2015 and make an analysis like in the case of 2016. Because Italy won the televote by a landslide and ended up 3rd because of the jury system. They are currently trying to remedy this kind of discrepancies by changing the jury voting system
Hi Jake, you have become my favourite Eurovision reaction channel :-) Could you please react to the runner up from 2014 'The Common Linnets'? Love you!! XXX
The Bearded Lady stuff is actually quite interesting. In the early 1970's there emerged in Gay Male Culture what was then called "Gender Fuck",. This was when Drag Queens would deliberately incorporate masculine elements into their drag performance. Thus mascara, eyeliner, very feminine gowns etc., with a masculine touch, everything from torn tea shirts to cowboy boots. But the most common masculine touch was growing a beard.
hello nice to greet you you should react to Dimash Kudairbergen with the S.O.S. In the presentation in Singers 2017 you will be surprised with her Vocal Rank. and in that same presentation she listens to Opera 2, Adagio by Lara Fabian, Hello by Lionel Richie etc ...
loved your honest reaction, technically he is a drag performer, it's not a beared lady , it's a guy who is beautiful as a drag queen who we have to refer as a she at this point, and he choose to keep the beard to make the world react. and he made it. it was a milestone for LGTB+ history , or Herstory as the Drag community say's...lol
Hi Jake. The next song you are about to react is “Heroes”, the singer is Mans Zemmerleuv in 2015, right? But please, react also to Russia’s entry that year - Polina Gagarina “A million voices”. She was incredible as well. She was second in that Contest, but, as for me, she deserved to win more than Mans, cause she is beautiful, the song is beautiful, the staging is beautiful. She was my personal favorite of 2015 and not Mans
Such a deserved winner! But interesting how the whole victory created the same outrage as when Dana International won for Israel in 1998, so have we really developed that much since then? Sadly many people only focus on the fact that it's a bearded lady performing, so they don't even take the time to listen to actual song which just sounds so professional and well-constructed, not to mention that her voice is incredible and the stageshow was so simple - And i love how professional and wellspoken Conchita was through the whole contest and how she handled many controversial questions during interviews and press conferences :)
Ruth Lorezo 2014 was GOOD in my opinion but I am glad that Conchita Wurst won... The performance, voice, lyrics everything was so POWERFULLLLL... So good job Austria 👏👏👏👏👏
Other notable songs from 2014: Netherlands - The Common Linnets - Calm after the Storm Sweden - Sanna Nielsen - Undo Armenia - Aram Mp3 - Not Alone Latvia - Arzamnieki - Cake to Bake Norway - Carl Espen - Silent Storm Poland - Donatan & Cleo - My Slowianie Israel - Mei Feingold - Same Heart France - Twin Twin - Moustache
I still wish the had won (im dutch so why not XD) ... But conchita wurst was quite a performance and at the right time. it was in the year Russia was comming down pretty hard on the lgbt community, so i like how it was also a bit of a punch in the face for Russia. Besides that though, it was a great song and performance with someon who stands out in the crowed so a good entry for the Netherlands to lose against. Hoping we win this year
Armenia was my favourite this year but gosh Conchita deserved to win this year too, she is so talented and she brought life to such a Bond like song. Everything was on point here. People saying it was some agenda voting’ nonsense are just a bunch of idiots. It was definitely one of the best SONGS in this SONG contest. They clearly didn’t bother to listen and watch her perform to say all that nonsense. The Netherlands were amazing too. Calm after the storm is still one of my favourite songs from this year.
I so hate all those people who say "how could she win"! She was the winner from the very beginning! She is a queen and I am so proud of her! I will always listen to this song) love from Ukraine) and Jake's Face, I love your reacts) thank you)
This is after she won, she was excited so she was a bit breathy, and there were no flames. She changed the lyrics from I to we also.
Jose Uribe Yes, I was just about to say that.
Her performance during the semifinals was PERFECTION.
Yeah it was much better before she won
I never noticed she changed the lyrics. That's amazing, she's so inspirational.
It's such a James Bond song. Classy, amazing performance.
Dana International who won for Israel in 1998 was the first trans performer in Eurovision.
Conchita is not trans though. She's a drag queen.
Now I watch this performance and get goosebumps.
omg - thank you Austria for having the balls - not to send her into a Preselection and nominate her directly as Austrian entry for Eurovision....
This song sounds like a classic Bond theme indeed!
The song, composition, lyrics, instrumentation, it is all song contest perfection. Very Bond. The point I am always making is the song could have won with any good performer, but Conchita knocked it out of the park.
Even all James Bond songs are great but not that… I don’t know how to describe it… this is an ultimative James Bond Song!!!
This song is so mesmerizing & i don't just mean Conchita. The performance is stellar!!!!!
You watched the wrong video of the performance!!! The first (before win) was way way better
You are watching a video of the performance after she won. My favorite performance of this song was the semifinal version. This is the winner I am most happy with since I’ve been watching the Eurovision 🙂
You're such a sweet guy, Jake ❤
And Conchita was amazing, completely deserved to win!!
I am so drawn to the line
"Seeking rather than vengeance
Retribution".
There were quite a few great entries that year. Some of my other favourites from 2014 are:
Aram MP3 - 'Not alone'(Armenia)
Carl Espen - 'Silent storm'(Norway)
Sanna Nielsen - 'Undo' (Sweden)
The common linnets - 'Calm after the storm' (The Netherlands).
Belittleing an entry instead of trying to see why the winning (or better scoring) act might have had an upper hand over a personal favourite. Is an unfortunate reaction, but it is the easy route to take - so I'm not surprised that it is popular.

Oh, no just one more winner to go and then you'll be up-to-date on them...for this decade :D
Mira Bai I agree with your favourites and everything you said in here
Esc Dude It was a good year for the mellow but hopeful songs :)
Mira Bai Right :)
Mira Bai Let's be serious. This was ugly, really grotesque. He sang good, I don't say he didn't, but if he would be dressed in a smoking with tie he would't take the trophy (he would be probably in the first ten, yes, but not the first one). There were other better singers.

Fierce ass drag queen and BY FAR my favorite thing I ever got to see unfold. Watching those grand final results was EPIC.
I think that was the winners reprise? So not quite as solid as the competitive performance. Can't wait to see your reaction to 2015.
And with this reaction, you gained a subscriber in me. Been watching a couple of videos previously to this one, but this sealed the deal. Well played, sir. :)
Oh I love you! I hope you keep doing these....if not a lot more old ones (I have a lot to watch - LOL!), next year!
This was a really deserved winner 😻❤️ from the netherlands 😁🇳🇱
Sorry I have to laugh that's kind of funny 😂❤️
We are really proud too here in Austria 🥺👍
I was waiting for this reaction! And I would love to see you reacting to 2012 Spain's and Albania's entry ;) Both are among my all-time favourites :D
Glad you were as blown away as we were! 😊
I’ve been waiting for this one! 👍❤️

there's so many jokes about last participants, so he have to know previous acts to enjoy it in full.
Well said! Eurovision is about diversity, acceptance, peace, uniqueness and love.
Beautifully put, sir.
Conchita has a ridiculously powerful voice. And thank you for your thoughtful reaction.
The video u saw was after she won where she changed the last lyrics that was about her to lyrics that was about "us" the people and not just her
She is a character of a bearded lady...
Fun fact: Eurovision 2014 was the second most expensive eurovision EVER, 44.5 Million Euro vs 18.5 Mil last year and something around 15 Mil this year
what year was the most expensive
I guess Moscow 2009.
ESC Honduras i dont think so i guess 2011 bcs it looks more expensive and extra or 2016
Prices of LCD screens back in 2009 were a LOT more expensive than in 2011. But anyway, I googled it and it was Baku 2012 since they built the Baku Crystal Hall just for that.
ESC Honduras yeah my fav stage for me was in baku and this year in lisbon
One of my favorite winners ❤️❤️❤️
Absolutely deserved! Amazing song and strong voice!!!
With big love from Russia ❤️❤️❤️
You are only one person in Russia, who loves this man/woman ))
Vitalii D. No))) it’s not right) and in 2014 Russia gives to Conchita 7 points)
I think you bought a lot of phones and sent numerous of SMS instead of all Russians. Really
Vitalii D. Fun)) but in the Final I voted for Hungary! He was my winner that years!
One of my favorites of all time
loved this
Finland have won one time in 2006! Please react To that! Lordi ~ Hard rock hallelujah!!!:) and 2007 in helsinki Serbia won react to that!!!
And to Verka from Ukraine “Lasha Tumbai” 2007 (she was second)
Isn't it a wonderful event? I was living in the US until 1986 and knew nothing about it...and then moved to Greece and...I was like huh? this is awesome!
Still gives me the goosebumbs
Very powerful voice and lyrics. I adore James Bond themes and that's why I do love this song. I love it even more than Adele and Sam Smith's Bond themes
We all llve your reactions!
Would you react to Marija Serifovic-Molitva (Serbia 2007), winning song?
Do watch 2014’s runner up for a superb song and also very different staging than normal. It is The Common Linnets (Waylon was part of that) and the song is called Calm After The Storm written by the lead guitar player in this performance.
amazing amazing song and performance....
Lyrics are so powerful and music is amazing....makes us speachless....salute to koncheta ..🤚🤚🤚🤚
this was one of the best stages too. a lot of very nice stagings that year.... could you please also react to the number 2 that year (Netherlands - Common Linnets - Calm after the storm, the first time Waylon entered)
i didn't remember that he changed the lyrics for the winning performance. thx for posting this one :-)
It would have been a crime for this not to have won. A stunning vocal performance. Owning the stage, without moving from the spot!
Best James Bond movie is the one with with Jane Seymour, Live and let die. Love it! And love your reaction, the whole world should react as you do.
AMAZING!!!!! 🇷🇸
It would be great if you can react to the runner up of that year: The Common Linnets (The Netherlands). Waylon (participating for the second time in 2018) was part of the Common Linnets. It is an amazing song!
Класс , так и напеваю эту песню в душе) Сарказм.
I love your comments mate
I wasn't much taken with the typical "favourites" in 2014 (Sweden's "Undo", Armenia's "Not alone", the Netherlands' "Calm after the storm") and I'm from Austria, so I didn't even entertain the thought that Conchita might win (Austria hadn't won for fifty or so years at that point, I couldn't really see it happening that year).
But there are some performances you should definitely check out:
- Latvia - Cake to bake (you'll think it's silly, I think, and the quality is a bit questionable, but I think it was a really cute, sweet song)
- Iceland - No prejudice (I love the message and it's just a fun song)
- Switzerland - Hunter of stars (I really like the song and I was honestly so impressed by the whistling!)
- Norway - Silent storm (Great song and great vocalist)
- Israel - Same heart (I'm repeating myself, but great song and great vocalist)
- Poland - My Słowianie - We Are Slavic (just...
Alf Tuvik I'll have to disagree. I voted for Conchita, beard or no beard she was the strongest act in ESC.

@@Casutama There weren't many of those though, there was a ton of 12s and 10s. Only 9 out of 37 countries gave her under 5 points.
Btw Eurovision 2014 was hosted less then 30 km away from Eurovision 2013 place. It’s because Swedish city Malmö is very close to Danish capital Copenhagen.
She was amazing a winner for sure
Beside the performance I loved Konchita’s reaction every time the country gave her 12 points🙈❤️
This is the winner performance!
Ukraine 2007
Lithuania 2006
Finland 2006
You should react to the top 3 of 2015 and make an analysis like in the case of 2016. Because Italy won the televote by a landslide and ended up 3rd because of the jury system. They are currently trying to remedy this kind of discrepancies by changing the jury voting system
Love this song....
Greetings from Serbia. Great song! Love you.
You should react to the Common Linnets Calm After the Storm (the runners up)
Hi Jake, you have become my favourite Eurovision reaction channel :-) Could you please react to the runner up from 2014 'The Common Linnets'? Love you!! XXX
Jake, I agree with you : this song is so powerful ! It's my favorite song from the last decade :)
the fire wings are the coolest special effect in Eurovision history, i;'d say
The Bearded Lady stuff is actually quite interesting. In the early 1970's there emerged in Gay Male Culture what was then called "Gender Fuck",. This was when Drag Queens would deliberately incorporate masculine elements into their drag performance. Thus mascara, eyeliner, very feminine gowns etc., with a masculine touch, everything from torn tea shirts to cowboy boots. But the most common masculine touch was growing a beard.
I really love her
Yoy should also watch that years nr 2!!!! 😁 💋 Suzette
Reaction please to Pastora Soler "Quédate conmigo" (SPAIN 2012)
I want to see your reaction for Ukraine that year❤. Maria Yaremchuk - Tick Tock
hello nice to greet you you should react to Dimash Kudairbergen with the S.O.S. In the presentation in Singers 2017 you will be surprised with her Vocal Rank. and in that same presentation she listens to Opera 2, Adagio by Lara Fabian, Hello by Lionel Richie etc ...

Please react to the runner-up The Netherlands. Waylon & Ilse (the Common Linnets) "Calm after the storm"
Did you see the Norway 'I Feed You My Love' song? I also liked it that year. Eurovision 2014
sorry it was 2013...
This music is very good

I always felt this song should have been in a James Bond movie. Such a great song.
I always thought this song would be a great James Bond song. For me 2014 wasn't a very strong year. My personal favorite was ''Running'' from Hungary.
Lordi - hard rock
When I listen this song it seems Jems bond movie song GOLDEN EYE ...
You should watch Sanna Nielsen, Undo from 2014! :D (sweden)
❤️
That`s what I am talking about all the time! It's made to be in the next 007
Jakey :D thanks :D
Conchita is goddess! i was so glad she won:) i adore her!
please do Ukraine 2007, another goddess of Eurovision!
greetings from Malta:)
