This is after she won, she was excited so she was a bit breathy, and there were no flames. She changed the lyrics from I to we also.

Many acts bring "shocking" stuff every year, if the song is crap people will not respond. This song was powerful as fuck, classy and her performance was so heartfel. I also loved Conchita did not have any backing vocals. It was just her pouring her heart out.
I did not appreciate the song as much the year it won because the contest sort happened in a blur for me. Now I watch this performance and get goosebumps.

It's a bit novelty because of the beard but she would have never won unless because of her voice! She won first and foremost because of her amazing voice and her brilliant performance. And that people in Europe unanimosely stood behind Conchita and her performance. They wanted to demonstrate that it doesn't matter who sings, male or female, no discrimination. So it was a real victory for everybody living in Europe thanks to Conchita and her bravery!

Just have to say that I love your Eurovision reaction videos. You’re respectful to the show and the performers (when there are so many haters), and your message about Conchita’s impact on people brought a tear to my eye. Eurovision is about diversity, love and acceptance. I’ve been lucky enough to go to two of them and your thoughts are spot on.

  • @mirakjemo1768
    @mirakjemo1768 Před 6 lety +187

This was such a well deserved winner. Conchita, her vocals, the lyrics, music and staging were a perfect match.
I am so drawn to the line
    "Seeking rather than vengeance
    Retribution".
There were quite a few great entries that year. Some of my other favourites from 2014 are:
    Aram MP3 - 'Not alone'(Armenia)
    Carl Espen - 'Silent storm'(Norway)
    Sanna Nielsen - 'Undo' (Sweden)
The common linnets - 'Calm after the storm' (The Netherlands).
Belittleing an entry instead of trying to see why the winning (or better scoring) act might have had an upper hand over a personal favourite. Is an unfortunate reaction, but it is the easy route to take - so I'm not surprised that it is popular.
Now, I don't agree with the audience booing any contestants for things that the artists have nothing to do with and that are happening outside of the contest. But if you have a look at the presentation of the votes or footage from the press room at that night. You will hear that it was a emotionally charged evening and a very important win.
Oh, no just one more winner to go and then you'll be up-to-date on them...for this decade :D

Not to mention it introduced me to my all time favourite band Softengine (Finland) which I am ever grateful for bc their music is amazing af. I think 2006-14 was the golden years personally bc it was generally fun, it wasn't taken too seriously like now & had humorous parody acts. Although if it's chart music we're aiming for 2014+ as it became more mainstream (at least where I live it did)

I wasn't much taken with the typical "favourites" in 2014 (Sweden's "Undo", Armenia's "Not alone", the Netherlands' "Calm after the storm") and I'm from Austria, so I didn't even entertain the thought that Conchita might win (Austria hadn't won for fifty or so years at that point, I couldn't really see it happening that year).
But there are some performances you should definitely check out:
    - Latvia - Cake to bake (you'll think it's silly, I think, and the quality is a bit questionable, but I think it was a really cute, sweet song)
    - Iceland - No prejudice (I love the message and it's just a fun song)
    - Switzerland - Hunter of stars (I really like the song and I was honestly so impressed by the whistling!)
    - Norway - Silent storm (Great song and great vocalist)
    - Israel - Same heart (I'm repeating myself, but great song and great vocalist)
    - Poland - My Słowianie - We Are Slavic (just... watch it. I've heard apparently it was a parody of something or other, but I'm not sure. in any case, it certainly... is a performance. Also, the song is actually not at all terrible)

Of course people like you who probably just really liked the song voted for her, but that's not the same for everybody who did, I know a ton of people who voted for her because of the whole message of the song and how powerful it was to them to see a drag queen with a beard being beautiful and owning the stage without being a joke.

well then everbody should just sing with no screen efects and dancers, just their voice, all what is on the stage is there to help the song, if she used a beard, it's part of the performance and it's ok just as many others used the "love story" factor

The Bearded Lady stuff is actually quite interesting. In the early 1970's there emerged in Gay Male Culture what was then called "Gender Fuck",. This was when Drag Queens would deliberately incorporate masculine elements into their drag performance. Thus mascara, eyeliner, very feminine gowns etc., with a masculine touch, everything from torn tea shirts to cowboy boots. But the most common masculine touch was growing a beard.

Hi Jake. The next song you are about to react is “Heroes”, the singer is Mans Zemmerleuv in 2015, right? But please, react also to Russia’s entry that year - Polina Gagarina “A million voices”. She was incredible as well. She was second in that Contest, but, as for me, she deserved to win more than Mans, cause she is beautiful, the song is beautiful, the staging is beautiful. She was my personal favorite of 2015 and not Mans

    Such a deserved winner!
But interesting how the whole victory created the same outrage as when Dana International won for Israel in 1998, so have we really developed that much since then?
Sadly many people only focus on the fact that it's a bearded lady performing, so they don't even take the time to listen to actual song which just sounds so professional and well-constructed, not to mention that her voice is incredible and the stageshow was so simple - And i love how professional and wellspoken Conchita was through the whole contest and how she handled many controversial questions during interviews and press conferences :)

I always thought this song would be a great James Bond song. For me 2014 wasn't a very strong year. My personal favorite was ''Running'' from Hungary.

I still wish the had won (im dutch so why not XD) ... But conchita wurst was quite a performance and at the right time. it was in the year Russia was comming down pretty hard on the lgbt community, so i like how it was also a bit of a punch in the face for Russia. Besides that though, it was a great song and performance with someon who stands out in the crowed so a good entry for the Netherlands to lose against. Hoping we win this year

Armenia was my favourite this year but gosh Conchita deserved to win this year too, she is so talented and she brought life to such a Bond like song. Everything was on point here. People saying it was some agenda voting’ nonsense are just a bunch of idiots. It was definitely one of the best SONGS in this SONG contest. They clearly didn’t bother to listen and watch her perform to say all that nonsense. The Netherlands were amazing too. Calm after the storm is still one of my favourite songs from this year.
