      My only dispute is the notion that race-tribalism is somehow unique to the right. At least historically there is precious little evidence of that. The social democrat movements in Scandinavia were riddled with talk of "the aryan race" and eugenics until quite recently. The world's first "race biological institute" was set up in Uppsala Sweden with the explicit goal of maintaining and improving the aryan race. And this was no small little office. Nearly one in ten Swedes were tested, analysed and measured at the institute for explicit eugenics purposes.
      And sympathizing with another group or using them is NOT the same as seeing them as equal. Marx & Engels showed very little evidence that they saw other races as equal. And they have some stunningly racist quotes.

    Until recently, for many years, I was teaching physics to engineering students at a large Canadian university. In the first year class the ratio was around 60-40 men to women. By the time you get to grad school, in a Masters program, it's more like 70-30 and by the time you get to a PhD, it's about 80-20. They all have equal opportunity and are free to purse the field, and we know that they are both equally intelligent (and in many cases girls have better study habits than guys). The same goes for other scientific fields - I myself studied astrophysics and by the time I was working on my PhD in this field (just a couple of decades ago), it's again about 80-20. Jordan knows what he's talking about, the data on this is clear.

    One of the things that blows me away about Peterson is how he is such a master at understanding statistics. He knows their proper use and formulation and how to describe that. He knows what conclusions can be made properly from them as well as what should NOT be deduced from them. It aids him so much in how he presents his arguments. He isn't just throwing numbers around. He never just uses them to obfuscate a complex issue. They illustrate and prove his points. This has the effect that he knows what he's talking about where his opponents just seem to be guessing wildly and letting their desires dictate their conclusions.

      Not always. For instance, he claims that more men commit suicide than women do, but he fails to mention that more women attempt suicide, but more men are actually successful. • @jakeroon

Failed "attempts" are often just other forms of psychosis that certainly warrant attention. But the fact remains: More men /actually/ commit suicide than women. I always find it intriguing how any issue concerning men has to be vetted up against weather or not it concerns women more. As if men's issues have to past some sort of contest be worth attention. Which might explain why more men commit suicide than women , hmm? Almost as if statements like yours imply that men have less worth than women. Surely you'd agree that serious crimes like murder and violent acts are often markers of poor mental health? So by your own rational since more men are committing those acts by far: shouldn't we be very concerned about the state of men's mental health? Or are you just perfectly fine with, "they're men so they are violent and evil, end of."

      This is what equality actually ends up becoming, but this is not what true equality looks like. For example, if I had wanted to become a doctor, I would not have had the resources to do so. The education is just too expensive for what I, or my parents could have afforded. Sure, there scholarships and grants and loans, but those can be difficult and sometimes impossible to obtain. However, if I came from a wealthy family, affording school to become a doctor would have been much easier. People argue, "You have much of a chance to be successful as I do." But that's not true. If I had become a doctor, I would have had to work three to four times harder than someone coming from a wealthy family. The time and effort that it takes to find and apply for those financial aids can be very daunting. The kind of equality we need is what gives everyone an actual opportunity to succeed in life. This often fails because of the lazy ones that just leach off any system that tries to make positive changes. Certain people make far more money than they will ever need, while some people struggle to barely make it by. I don't know what the solutions is, but can you honestly tell me that one person should have 40 billion dollars when they themselves don't even do the actual work that earns them that money?

I doubt most women want to put them selves in danger when men do that to us everyday. we don't have the luxury of choosing if we want to put ourselves in danger for a bit of a buzz this whole thing is laughable incell breeding ground material. Shes due in Sept of this year, and shes already missing nearly every monday, constantly claims she cant do this or that, and leaves work early because she "doesnt feel good". And alot of us are starting to see the issues that are building up from it. As fairly soon, someone else is going to start doing her work for her because shes either not there or claims she cant do it. Honestly, i understand that being pregnant isnt easy, ive heard the horror stories from my sister whos had 4 children, but no one twisted your arm to work there and none of us there forced you to be pregnant. BTW we have another girl whos due in july in another department (machining) and shes only missed 3 days total since she found out.

You need to talk to your "enemies", then you learn about yourself, then you gain something. This is why he has perspective, and you sit on the interent looking down on others with no leg to stand on. Jordan inadvertently pointed that out numerous times that these topics cannot be reduced to one reason (ex. oppression & prejudice as the reason why the wage gap exists) and that within every outcome, there are many many factors that lead to that outcome. Great conversation. Great work.

      @@TheHigherVoltage If you're a woman arguing this isn't a woman-only problem, you don't have a right to speak on this because you've never done a single day of man's work in your life. Which was the point of the comment. Any man who has had to work a HARD JOB with a woman knows EXACTLY how much harder you have to work and how much longer it takes. Men don't respect and follow other men in those difficult jobs if that man giving orders hasn't or doesnt also 'get down in the trenches' and demonstrate hard work. The difference between a man and a woman getting that office position is the only way a man gets it is Nepotism or HARD WORK. Women just get a degree (made easier because "we need more women engineers so let's lower the standards!" they get preferential hiring for their female privilege and find themselves getting paid to be in the office making everyone else miserable because they've NEVER DONE A DAY OF HARD WORK IN THEIR LIFE. I don't care how hard you think you work, in the top 10% most demanding jobs you can't have somebody slower or with less body strength "doing their best" it isn't enough to keep on schedule.

    My son recommended Jordan to me a little over a year ago, because he knows I like real discussions dealing with real situations, and I can say he has not disappointed at all. The first thing I watched was when his daughter interviewed him for over an hour on her podcast. Brilliant discussion between a father and daughter. First the respect and honesty that they both showed to each other was refreshing, but the one thing that made me sit up and take notice was his humility to show both in speech and physically his feelings. Second I like his choice of words. You have to pay attention to the conversation, or you'll get lost if you don't know the meaning of the words and phrases used. I've been fortunate to have worked with people in the past and also studied some programs in the past that use the same phrasing, so that has me hooked right there. Third there is no apology for saying what he believes to be correct, and trying to do it in a way that doesn't demean the person who is interviewing, or that he is speaking with. His reasoning ability is very schooled and precise. When I watch, or listen to him I know there is going to be something thought provoking, and the manner in which the subject is framed will be consciously put in a way to make the audience feel at ease with the subject, even if they disagree with his position. Kudos Jordan.

    I ran a crew that installed cell tower antennas. Good money in that because it's tough to find someone willing to work 300 feet in the air.
    Our project manager was a woman. She liked to bring in women who wanted to be climbers. I had some come through my crew. Most ended up being mobile tool bags at best. Had two breakdown where they just started crying and had to climb down.
    One actually stuck around. She's on the butch side. But as "tough" as she was, she couldn't do the harder things on the tower without a lot of help. Really slows down your build, which costs money.
    Essentially, you put in a bid for the job. They pay you a flat rate and you have to get the build done. A good crew can do a ground and tower install in ~6 days. When you have someone who can't do certain things by themselves, the job takes longer and everyone loses money.
    These are the kinds of considerations feminists never consider when it comes to the "wage gap." If you're getting $2,500 when the job is done, you actually earn more if you get it done in a week than if it takes you 17 days.
    To be clear- not all the men who tried made it either. But even the most competent of the women who came through weren't on par with the men. Obviously, you can get the job done with women. But it takes a lot more time, requires more tools to account for a lack of upper body strength, and costs more money for the same results.

      @controlclerk Pƙed rokem +11

      @Jack Zeldon That motivation was the exact same for me. I got into towers because a friend of mine was a sub-contractor and needed help. I was in a rather bad situation financially and this opportunity was a God send. First time on a tower was scary and it took me several climbs before I "got good" at what I did. But the driving force was my wife and kids and making sure I took care of them.

      I worked in Masonry for a while. For a time we had one girl on the crew, she was a hard worker and pretty tough. But the upper body strength difference showed. She was actually about on par with me in terms of strength, but I am puny and would run 2 trips with half the load up the scaffolding to keep up.
      Any one can do anything, but to your point, it much harder to do something your not built for. So we should have the expectation that differences should show up as we pick what we are good at or enjoy. And since wages are set by necessity, it make no sense when people look for correlations there.

    • @controlclerk
      @controlclerk Pƙed rokem +7

      @Viperstriker4 To the point of "wages"-
      My initial post referred to when I was working for a company. New climbers were hired at the same rates. So the women were being paid the same as the men, even if their crews took longer to build sites. I ended up leaving the company to go back to contracting and they shut down in the market a few months later.
      They couldn't continue to subsidize the weaker crews with the work of my crew. For example, let's say a new climber makes $2,500 every two weeks. My crew finishes a job in a week. The company bid the job at $60k. Crew of 4 gets it done in a week, company pays $5k out of that $60k to the guys.
      Weaker crew takes 3 weeks to do a job. Now the company has paid $15k in salary for the same results. Not to mention a lot of the work is on the road, so they cover 2 more weeks of hotels, gas, per diem, etc.
      But ask a feminist and she would call that fair, because the women are being paid the same salary.
