- I would NEVER do this job again. It was WAY too much work for the benefit. The video is a little long and a little boring, but it's also not very funny.
I'll try to get back to the entertainment part of the videos soon. Hopefully. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
This is as painful as when my 5 y/o decided he wanted to work in the shop with me. I'm just glad he was a quick learner. Like a train wreck I can't quit watching.
dude you just made every do it yourselfer feel better lol that takes balls gotta give ya that man, you learn by doing, even if its expensive sometimes
"It was WAY too much work for the benefit".
Unfortunately those 25 year old hoses have to be replaced. Those small devil hoses are a pain though.
Honest video. Good for you for putting it out there. Like you said, if it went perfectly the first time, there'd be no learning involved. Mine on my 1990 are toast, so reluctantly, I'm going to have to tackle this-and do them all. Thanks for the warning! P.S. funny and entertaining, watched it all the way through. (You should do more, as you can see, there are some of us out here that relate to your process)
I bought some red hoses, looked for help, found this vid and you put me right off lol.
I twisted my face at some of those hoses, but with the right tools I took to the job relatively well. Some decent long nose pliers with angled ends helped reach and remove the clamps in tight areas, and a handled hook to loosen and pull the hoses back off the pipes was a god send.
Thanks for the video though, you've pointed me in the right direction and added some good humour to the project :)
I can't agree more that the right tools make all the difference. I have since invested in a pick set and I would assume that if I were to ever do this job again, it wouldn't be nearly as difficult or take as long.
BTW. the 1.6 miatas had the AFM. its an older style and had a big flaper in it, e30's use them too. the 1.8 miatas had MAF's.
But i would say for someone who wants to get into a project i would recommend this job for two things. 1. it would will make them realize the difficulty and the pain to tell themselfs if they want to continue. and 2. I had hoses for problems.. Oil got in the coolent from a head gasket.. and even a little oil eats the hoses... I blew both radiator hoses and the one heater core hose and the other popped off once and two of the small hoses off of the front neck. the first one to blow was to the oil cooler. All busted at some point but one tiny one. Yes it was just because of the oil. But these all happened at DIFFERENT times.... FML. that was hard to deal with having to deal with busted lines away from home. Do it before the break haha. But yea its a pain.
I'd say that this job is worth doing as long as you know what you're getting into BEFORE you start. I was so stupid and really thought I'd be able to just pop off the clamps, pull the hoses off of the pipes, and put the new ones on, reapply the clamps and bingo bongo, be done with 8 hoses in an hour and a half. But as long as you understand that it'll be a long afternoon of murder level frustration, it really makes a clean engine bay look pretty. Plus, I guess the addition of silicone hoses that should outlast the rest of the car.
I hate the stock miata hose clamps, every time i change a hose i change both the hose clamps cus they are so terrible.
really hard to not cringe while watching this seeing as ive made the screw mistake on the air flow meter myself but respect for learning and working on your own car, we all start without knowledge so if anyones judging just ignore them. also for the MAF/ AFM question, 1.6 (what u have) its AFM and the 1.8 is MAF. and good safety tip while learning, never leave your car on while in a closed space like a garage. the gases build fast and you wont even know because you just fall asleep without smelling or anything and just die in your sleep very quickly
I was standing at the open end of the garage. And I know that the CO can still build up. But that's the risk I'm willing to take to bring you people crappy, boring content on my channel!!!!
i feel like the hose kit could be worth it in 2 different scenarios 1. you wanted to replace them all and did the whole job in one go like he did (looks like a pain in the ass) 2.have all the hoses ready and replace only the ones you feel or know need the replacement and just change them over a course of time
When a 20 min job turns into a 2 hour job lmao
Screw it! Just take it to the dealer and spend $2000 on hose replacement.
Lol. The vac lines aren't all that bad. But I could imagine being upset that ours not perfectly easy. One thing that is intimidating is taking off the intake manifold for the first time. Which I think is best to do when taking the valve cover gasket off. Currently I'm cleaning the carb build up in my upper manifold and soon will be removing the bottom for the first time. I plan on cleaning I. And around all of that. Be careful taking things/sensors off before some research. Many people mask that mistake with TPS I did it on my fd3s lol. But I do not like that carbonmiata didn't send any type of identification or grouping for these vac lines.
Thanks for being one of the few to show this
What radiator did you go with and do you like it ?
Found you through OhYeahAboutThat.
Really nice looking engine bay.
I subbed and I'll look forward to more. :)
Also, I really feel your pain on old hoses.
They love to become permanent friends with whatever is inside them.
I'll be doing some coolant hose videos at some point, perhaps on an MR2!
Should be extra fun. ;)
I wanted an MR2 well before I wanted a Miata, back in my high school days. I've always been about those small sporty cars. Even the MG and the Alfa and even the Fiero. I'll definitely check out your channel.
I definitely have some similar tastes! I got such a good deal on this one, even with engine issues I couldn't pass it up. I have some cool plans for it. It's in the thumbnail of my shout out video, but there will be an official teaser and intro at some point. Thanks!
Hello, is your black coolant tank an OEM part?
nope. I painted it black, and that's a terrible idea since you can't see through it to see if there's fluid in it.
its 2020 and I still need to change all my coolant hoses.. can anyone else relate?
nice video man! :D you mentioned it was long and boriing but still enjoyed it man! keep up the good work 👍
Thanks for saying so. I try to make these informative and entertaining and also show you all the things I screw up so you won't have to. But some of them are just more difficult to make entertaining because of the nature of the job. There's a dashboard swap coming soon that should be either awesome or a disaster.
Nice! looking forward to it! :D
Ive been whatching all ur videos, really helped a lot
If you are going to do something elese to your supension, i dont know how are your bushings
I put a moss miata kit on mine they are a little stiffer than i toth but they are ok
Also im considering stiffer swaybars
Hi from ciudad Juárez Chihuahua México
I may need to do something about the bushings. I have developed a really annoying high pitched squeaking that I think is coming from the suspension linkage. I need to track down exactly where it's coming from and I suspect the bushings. Sway bars aren't in the cards for this Miata. This one was always meant to be a show car. Mostly stock, but just pretty. The Cumstain will be getting some upgrades and will look like a giant piece of garbage. But that will be a longer process that I'll concentrate on soon.
i had a hose burst in my 92 last night. guess which one it was. the one you skipped. took me 3 house and 4 people. and now my hands are all cut up. and now i have to do it again because im moving to silicone.
Remove your coil pack to reach it far more easily. I had to do this on the Cumstain and it was a piece of cake with the coil pack out. Except for all the coolant spilling all over the place because this hose is below the water level.
So, you'd recommend doing this? it was fun?
I recommend getting quite drunk, and then attempt it. That's probably the only way this job could be fun. Or maybe if you had a woman in a tiny bikini helping.
@@goodeggproductions I feel like being on Sativa is the only way to get this done. LOL!!
@@BenSolo777 It certainly wouldn't have hurt.
I don't know where all the coolant is going to go...everywhere...that's where it's going...everywhere...lol
don't do it... lol thanks for the tip. how is the soft top on that new miata? I really want to see a soft top install
Unfortunately, it's really good. I shan't be replacing a top any time soon. But Jesus' needs a top. If he happens to get a new one, we'll do an install on his. I should have said that if you ARE thinking of doing it, do it at the same time as replacing the radiator, doing a timing belt service and a coolant reroute. All three of those jobs require so much bonus work that they just make sense to do all at the same time.
goodeggpro ya I hear ya do all the jobs at once. I had a bad lifter on an old Mustang I had once so I replaced the heads cam and intake manifold all at once lol. a new top is cheap. 150 bucks. tellum get one. I want to buy it but I'm not sure I'm ready to take on the challenge. plus I have a hard top so I can procrastinate
what do you think about canvas soft tops with glass windows? vinyl tops are too hard top put up when its cold.
I love the look. That's what is on the 2016, and it looks and feels great.
ya they definitely look good but it might put focus on the rest of my car looking like shit lol i.imgur.com/JUPtBNN.jpg heres a pic. #rust
Get some decent pilers man!
I have since then. Well.. not decent. But definitely larger, and angled. Hey man. Basically, I don't buy tools until I hit something that I can't do with what I've got. Or they're on ridiculously good sale. Part of the struggle is the struggle.
Dude! You are so bad when it comes to anything coolant related! Honestly, I'm not that much better. Coated my garage floor with it more times than I can count. Just no video evidence of my mishaps...lol
I've purchased an epoxy garage floor paint kit and I just need to find a 4 day stretch where I can get some help cleaning out the garage to do it. I'm definitely tired of adding "fluid of the day" to the concrete.
Half hour job
Wrong.
holy hell
Frustration level: 100. Also, who is the dork nozzle that constantly gives a thumbs down? It's usually only one and it's all the time. If you don't like a video, don't watch it!
Is it you?? Meh. I don't really pay any attention to the likes/dislikes. My things I like/hate about my 2016 got mad hate. I don't even know why. I care a lot more about the comments I get and I try to respond to most of them. That's the interaction I prefer. If I ever start making money with the channel and the like/dislike ratio matters, then I might start paying attention. But in a way, I can understand a dislike. The videos are long, and often boring for long stretches. Everyone's opinion is valid.
goodeggpro ha! It's not me. I have the same issue! If that bugs you then you REALLY don't want to pay attention to the CZcams Studio app! It tells you every detail about your audience and videos. Why are you not making money?
Hey goodeggpro - it wasn't me giving the Thumbs DOWN...I am going through every step of the knuckle busting, ball-busting, “SH*T" you are, working on my 1992, so I can totally relate to the frustration levels.
At the very least, the vast majority of things that we do to these cars is completely mechanical. Meaning that we don't have some ghost in the machine that we have to chase around or some electrical gremlin that's causing something weird to happen in the engine every time we try to put a window up or down. Just about everything CAN be fixed with basic tools and knowledge (or a CZcams video). So it's basically just a little bit of money, and a lotta bit of effort to get most any job done.
inb4 anyone lol ;)
Mass Air Flow Meter...and yeah...you look like you had lots of fun...no Angel or Hey-Zeus to help you...I know his name is Jesus...just being me...
So much wrong with this smh 😂
use WD-40, easy hose removal
