This entire clip is perfect. An absolutely beautiful child with a flower crown and long white dress singing this incredibly gorgeous melancholy song in a divinely inspired voice accompanied by s mournful guitar offering the barest of accompaniments . She looks and sounds like an angel - or a fairy princess. It doesn't look real. It was game over for me when I saw this.
She was sent to all of us from heaven.
Angelina is a great singer. I pray her parents protect her from the dark side of singing. Angelina is wonderful and I don't want anything to hurt her in any way.

I don't know what it is about her voice that is so captivating but I haven't been able to go one day without listening to her sing. I am looking so forward to what she does now that she signed with Republic Records. I feel like a proud grandfather with tears on my face after every performance. Yes, go Angelina is right!

Ive heard many different styles of music, my parents....country..the king Johnny cash and the queen Tammy wynette, gentlemen jim reeves, the statler brothers.... and many more! ..i also have eight other brothers and sisters ahead of me ! So i was thankfully exposed to a wide range of music! Its so nice and a blessing to have found this young future superstar! By the way, i found her in 2014 just going from video to video and ..well, you know!! Go Angelina!!!!!

Angelina IS without a doubt an ANGEL.
I've listened to this video at least 30-40 times and she still puts me in tears. Remember she isn't just a singer she is also an arranger. I'm guessing it was her idea to have just a guitar player. Angelina likes the subdued feel of a single instrument accompaniment. This competition was over after she sang her audition. The final nail was driven in by her abilities to sing another Billie Holiday song, ' I'm A Fool To Want You' after she sang this song which with out bending time/space, or tearing it up. Sometimes I am at a loss for words to describe what I think happens when she creates. I know what I feel when I hear her do things with a song. So I say let's acknowledge genius and enjoy it.
Don't worry, I've lost count of how many times Angelina has made me cry since 2014 !!!. In fact this Angelina is diabolical, she came from another planet !!!!!. I love her so much and everything she does and sings, I lost count !!!!. I let life run like that !!!!
this has to be thee boldest and most courageous song choice for a competition ever and to not only make that choice but to also perform it with such confidence speaks mountains to her strength of character.
I totally agree. She walks out while the song is already in progress, delivers a masterpiece singing barely above a conversational volume, and she's riveting. It's almost like she lifted one little bare foot and stomped it down on the stage, sending reverberations throughout, Hello World, here I am, and I'm not even trying. This was the 2nd song I ever heard her sing (in 2014), and I remember being slack-jawed. And as Mike McDevitt says below, my life changed that day.
Lyrics wise I find Gloomy Sunday to be an even bolder choice. :)

One of my favorite things about this one is how poised she is up on that stand. Just like you said, she stands there with a straight face and delivers this classic song, exactly as I think it should be done. It's almost stoic, and without emotion. Angelina is so good at conveying emotion that she is even good at conveying the lack of emotion... which is so perfect for this song IMO. I look forward to you jumping ahead to some of the older Angelina. I suggest not skipping 10 though... 10 was a strong year.

Republic Records has Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, the Jonas Brothers, and Stevie Wonder to name a few. Hopefully this means a new album soon.

@@kevingood4644 I am excited about it. It was just announced a couple days ago, but I have known about it for a while now, so I have had some time to think about it. I really think it is a great move for her. When you read the stuff that Michael (her uncle/manager) says in the release article, it gives some comfort that he (and the rest of her family) are still being very vigilant about protecting her. I don't know any of the specifics of Angelina's contract, but I have read some really good things about Republic... like allowing Taylor Swift to maintain rights to all her stuff.
....but on the other hand I see how much Ariana changed over the last few years.... with most of her videos being shot in her underwear, and very commercialized messages in her songs. It is entirely possible that all of this was Ariana's vision, and not the work of people trying to make it more marketable.
It is a hard fact of the industry that there is always a push and pull between the artists with a creative vision and the money people with a financial vision. Just based on the work I have seen from other Republic artists, it seems as though they allow that push-pull to lean toward the artist, so I am very hopeful that Angelina will maintain _her_ vision however she sees it. Nobody knows how that vision will evolve as she goes through her teens, but we are all about to find out!
I for one am super excited to continue following her unfolding story.
If Angelina was signed under those terms, it's likely she had a full portfolio to offer.
One of my favorite things about watching you react to Angelina's musical journey is that it reminds me of the first time I heard this young phenom seven years ago and how it shook me to my core. All these years later I still am literally in tears with every performance I hear. Her voice is like a gentle hug to my soul. I listened to this song million of time since the 70's but when I heard Angelina sang 3 years ago, it was the first time she send chill to my bones and tear to my eyes.

The importance of this performance is that it shows that Angelina produces the sounds that she wants, and has since the first performance of Gloomy Sunday when she reproduced the Sound of Billie Holliday with distinct changes with influences by Ella Fitzgerald. Angelina can sound however she wants, and is only limited by her creativity.
Need to listen to her sing "It's a Man's World" Unreal!

This performance is just haunting. A perfect marriage of Angelina’s voice, music, and lyrics. How a seven year old can express melancholy better than Cher or Nancy Sinatra is hard to figure, but there it is.
I loved this song for 50 years from the first time I heard it in the sixties. Angelina’s version is my favorite. (This happens very often.)
Show me another child singer who understands that her understated delivery can be way more powerful than trying to show off her vocal range. Angelina draws in the audience at the first notes. A seven year old has them in the palm of her hand. You can hear a pin drop during her performances.
Finally, Soul-a suggestion: don’t say “this is my favorite Angelina song”. You know why.

You may be interested to know that Angelina is in the process of signing with Republic records as their number one priority new artist! This is a huge landmark and we all knew it was coming eventually. This label also has Taylor Swift, Shawn Mendes, Ariana grande, Jonas Brothers and more. We hear that she is generally signing on her own terms meaning a good deal of freedom.
Any record executive who tried to stand in her way, wouldn't last long
I think her family, who have done everything right up too now, would not have let her down. Having been mesmerized by everything I heard her sing anyone connected to the record label would be crazy to try and do anything other than give her 100% support to do whatever she wants. She is perfection and to do anything to alter her would be a career ender for anyone silly enough to try.
I think she will set a new Standard of singing. she will be a Trendsetter and many other singer will follow her. And her Label have to see these Chance. We will see 😍🌄🌅

Another amazing reaction to my favorite singer. Don't be embarrassed by the occasional tear. It is part of experiencing the emotion that she is able to project with her voice. She projects emotion as though she has experienced all the things that lead to her sounding like a much older person's experiences with a voice that matches perfectly. Even though this was only the semi-finals, The Judges, the Contestants, and the audiences, both studio and at home knew the contest was over and they were just going through the motions until she was crowned in the finals the following week!

"Bang, Bang" was written in 1966 by Sony Bono for his then wife Cher. Her upbeat version was a big hit. Later that same year (seems strange) Nancy Sinatra sang a much slower version accompanied by just a guitar, and she had an even bigger hit. It was then included in "Kill Bill" and became popular again. Angelina is covering Nancy's version. And for me, this little 8 year old performs it best of all. Considering all the times I've listened to her sing it, it still amazes me that she can perform this song at this level. After this performance, there was no doubt that she would win this competition. She ended up getting almost half (46%) of the votes; which left all the other acts to divvy up the remaining 54%. Of course, we know that she nailed "Summertime" also. And A-Star is born (sorry about that, I couldn't resist). As always Soul, your AJ reactions are great. 😊💕
+1 for don't miss her 10yo year. It was huge for her. Some astonishing stuff (yeah I know, what of hers isn't) when she was 10. She really stopped being a 'child' singer when she turned 10.
Really stunning cover version. I think the key is not only the voice, but also the narrative style. By slowing down a song, she is able to give every word its true meaning. This way this (and other) song becomes more a sad story, told by a very young Angelina. I also don't believe Angelina could be covered by other more accomplished (famous) stars - because she just comes across authentic in these covers, and I doubt older, matured singers could give the same impression. Certainly my favourite version of this song, and one of AJs best overall !!

Angelina is the queen of understated performances and that is a high compliment. I am always amazed by Angelina’s uncanny ability to fully understand the mature subject matter of the lyrics and then concisely interpret their meaning. The subtle nuances, voice inflection, vibrato, staccato, perfectly sustained notes, the full palate of colors and textures, her incredible vocal range and her hyper awareness of the emotion and soul of the song is unequaled for someone so young. There are 30 and forty something singers that can only dream of doing what comes easily and naturally to Angelina.
