There's something so pure and wholesome about Canadian sitcoms. ♥️
A successful profanity-free comedy is almost unheard of now. But creator/writer Ins Choi and writers Kevin White and Garry Campbell keep nailing it every time.
@@almason253 They curse in the show. And _most_ sitcoms don't have cursing, especially here in the States, even if they have mature themes. Profanity doesn't make or break a show. Poor, lazy, sloppy writing does.

Love how this show can go from comedy to emotional within the blink of an eye. Janet and her Appa’s emotional moments always get me.

This is just like Pat Morita's Mr Miyagi. Unless you're Korean or around real Korean accents a lot you wouldn't know. I am Korean and I knew their accents were fake. It is close in the sense that it's a good fake of a real Korean accent.
I liked how they went a little meta in the episode where Jung is impersonating the restaurant workers, doing the Asian accent, and then Shannon comes in and starts doing the same accent and everyone gives her a weird look.
They should've had my parents be the actors lol or anyone from the parents church lol.
It makes me so sad to know how hard the cast members had to fight for their voices and accurate + respectful portrayals while filming. I hope these stars know that revealing their struggles with scripts/producers/cultural inaccuracies on set is such a helpful and honorable thing to do. It's clear that these actors are knowledgeable and each have their own impressive paths - I am rooting for you each all the way.

@@LawOfficeofJoshuaYLee Yeah I'm white af and I knew they were fake. Idk if people say "what you talking" etc. Seems like an exaggerated stereotype more than anything. So I came to CZcams ti find their real voices. Didn't expect him to sound likee that though! Different voice!
I'm from across the border in the U.S. I love this show, and their words on the importance of representation are especially meaningful to me, as someone who was born and grew up in the States to an immigrant family. It's incredible how many parallels there are in our experiences. Appa and Ŏmma remind me so much of my parents when I was growing up.

I love Mr Kim's accent, it reminds me of my first manager when I was 15, he was also Korean and talked exactly like that.

YES!! I'm Korean-American and felt such a deep and profound connection to this show. I can't get over how real some of their Korean mannerisims are, especially when appa is frustrated. Sounds like my dad!
It's unfortunate that in the end the show ended in disgrace because they felt like they were Koreans expressing white culture and passing it off as Korean.

reflective of how authentic Paul and Jean's acting is. They deserve so much appreciation for nailing typical Asian parents in English speaking countries.

I am from Nigeria and I absolutely love this show. My favorite phrase is “Sneak attack”. It’s interesting to hear them without their accents. Especially Mr. Kim.

Very nice show. Have just finished binging season 2 and love it. I thought the writing drooped a bit at the end of season 1 but season 2 was strong all the way through.
It kinda makes me a bit jealous that I and my family aren't so talkative and effortlessly witty. I know it's a show of course but it's kind of sad that real life isn't so rose coloured. That's what shows are for I guess, to entertain us and take us out of reality for a while.

I’m an immigrant from Ukraine and because I’m Caucasian (and my Engish is so good) people often assume I was born here but I relate to this show so much! When they talk about representation, they probably mean ethnic minorities but really, they’re making immigrants, a part of Canadian historical and national blueprint, feel heard and understood. I am so bummed it got cancelled!

Also that's awesome that you relate to the show. That's the problem in all our western countries. We lack showing the diversity on screen. Australia is pretty bad at it... But then again they don't know how to do TV for anything other than a crime or soap box crap.
The main stuff I've seen with more diversity is for hilariously teenager shows of ours. But prime time crap is still the same old white Aussie crap on TV. Give me flavour any time over boring same old, same old. I don't know why the media liked to pretend we are something that we aren't! Especially when, If you aren't native, then we are all immigrants or settlers (so basically immigrants lolol) to begin with.
