- Avengers: Endgame saw a definitive conclusion to Captain America’s timeline, as he went back in time to be with the love of his life, Peggy Carter. When an aged Steve Rogers appeared in the future, he passed on the Captain America shield to Sam Wilson. Many fans were surprised by this, as they would have expected Bucky Barnes to be the next Captain America, but now Bucky’s actor Sebastian Stan has cleared it all up. He says that Bucky completely understood everything Captain America was doing, so let’s take a look at what Sebastian Stan has to say about Bucky not getting the shield in Endgame.

Who do you think should be the next Captain America?
Looper Bucky
Looper an American???
No one. Cap was Cap. No one is going to replace him 👍
Steve Rogers
@Suvendu Sekhar well Falcon is going to replace him, soooooo
Bucky gave it away when he told Steve, "I'm gonna miss you, man."
Totally.
True
Mel Regalario “I’m gonna miss you, BUDDY”*
He knew
Why have a Vibranium shield when you have a Vibranium arm?
Exactly
whynotboth.gif
There’s also the symbolism the shield holds, but I agree.
He's be too powerful
why not both?
"I'm with you 'til the end of the line." 😭
Leaves him for Peggy. 😑
realEpic for just 5 minutes comeon 😂😂😂
"I'm gonna miss you, buddy."
Bucky knew that Steve isn't coming back.
Anita Rosie Ross yeah he knew :’(
He Chose Before Bros 😏
@Jaraino Bendanon fr 😂
Ok but Steve wasn't actually with Bucky till the end of the line :(
bucky should’ve gone with him then i would have been happy with the ending
I mean he helped bring him back after he died but whatever
Oh my God can people just accept the reason Sam got it was because Dr. Abrahm Erskine told Steve he needs to be not a perfect Soldier but a good man
Bucky - Perfect Soldier
Sam - Good man = Captain America
Nope. Bucky is white = bad and Sam is black = good.
avatarpopco thats true tho, but no
@@avatarpopco I hate woke shit as much as anyone, but Falcon makes much more sense. Bucky has been a traitor to the US and most of the west for over 70 years. He killed Tony's parents ffs. They could never make him Captain America.
Justin Amaya but there’s one problem: Sam isn’t a super soldier. he has his own shtick.
@Mike Noir Why is everybody acting like we know his character so well he's in maybe 5 movies and he's barley in 3 of them plus what people are saying is if bucky got it there would be out lash calling marvel racist. Kinda like how you were racist if you didn't like black panther. But I probably won't watch the show ether way the rest of the MCU seems like a waste a time. Should have just ended the whole thing with black widow but they need more money so buckle in for a bunch of meaning less trash for the next five years and beyond. I'm mean I'll been in collage and these movies will still be going on the thought just sickins me.
Sam is a goodman while bucky was suppose to be a perfect soldier.
Ultimately, it comes down to affirmative action. The original successor to Cap was Sam, largely because he is black, and honestly I think it couldn't be done right any other way. I still wanted Bucky. He is perfect for it.
Soul Mechanics ...Affirmative Action was the reason? Not wanting to burden your best friend in not having a real chance at life himself , doesn’t work but, Affirmative Action was the reason. Damn.
Yes, but Bucky "has too much red in his tally".
He doesnt feel deserving of it, he is too broken still, he feels guilty even knowing that Hydra had the control and not him.
Wicho • 70 years ago. If by "soldier" you mean assassin, yes, that is what Hydra made him into. And he isn't sure the control words aren't still there, and fears that anyone can turn the assassin back on just by saying the words. Best if he wasn't wearing Cap's uniform & shield when that happened.
@@soulmechanics7946 perfect in a serial killer kind of way lol
When you watch that scene over it is so obvious bucky knew what steve was doing and that steve knew that bucky knew, there is so much said between them beyond the words exchanged. It's amazing, two fine actors with great chemistry.
I was quite sure he didn't gave the shield to Bucky because it'd be a disrespect to the late Tony Stark to give his father's shield to his murderer.
I'd accept that reasoning.
Damn, didn't even think about
Damm
ooo that's a good angle. there's definitely lots of reasons why Sam was the better choice from an in universe perspective. tbh most of the people i see getting mad think Sam got the shield because of "fOrCeD dIvErSiTy" but if you really think about it, it's the choice someone as thoughtful as Steve would make.
Another reason I personally think he gave it to Sam instead of Bucky was he knew that while Bucky has come far in his healing, there is still a long way to go. Giving him the burden of being Captain America on top of everything else he is still dealing with would be too much for him at the moment. He needs to figure himself out first. As Sebastian said in an interview, he's at the stage now that he will get the chance to do normal stuff and learn to live again without any expectations forced on him, something he wouldn't be able to do if Steve gave him the shield. I think in time he might get it and the show will start building up to it by having him working with Sam but at the moment it's too soon.
The answer is simple, bucky is a pretty damaged guy, the mantle is heavy on him
Plus like he said in Civil war he's afraid if anyone knows the right words to say he could change back into that assassin.
@@darkwolf780 That was fixed by Shuri who erased Hydra code planted in his head. It's official.
No. It's because they want to replace the white men
Even in the comics Bucky took over as Cap it was only for a short while till the Russians put him on trial and the gulag . Then escaped and back as the Winter Soldier
@@G1Bryce You sound so ignorant. Did it ever cross your mind that the reason the shield was not given to bucky is because Steve didn't want to give the the shield to the man who murdered Tony's father. Not to mention that the shield was created by Tony's father.? It would be extremely disrespectful to give the shield to the murderer of Tony's father. In addition to this, it only takes a few words for Bucky to relapse back into is murderous and villainous nature.
You'll never make me believe that Cap would abandon Sam and Bucky after they had been dead for five years for a woman he kissed 70 years ago.
Happens everyday in real life though.
Peggy was the only thing that Cap ever wanted, and his heart broke after her funeral. So, considering there was only enough for a one way trip, he was the only man with nothing to lose, and everything to gain.
Alyss Mathrin perfectly said
I wish he stayed...😢😭
Captain America is a simp now
Bucky's run as Cap was fun. Especially with Black Widow joining him on most missions. Sam's run started strong but fizzled in the middle thanks mostly to the secret empire event.
Also Bucky is still a fugitive. He never cleared his name after civil war
Edwin Appiah they never said his name was cleared but in spider-man far from home he was labeled a hero so i don’t think he’s a fugitive anymore
@@ashleymurphy3004 when? I have forgotten the scene
i mean, technically, Sam didint either, but ok xD
Sam is a fugitive too, however they both were presented as heroes in spiderman far from home 😉
I think they were pardoned
I have adored Sebastian Stan since his part in The Covenant! He always plays his parts and characters so well to me!
I agree 💯 percent. I've been tracking him ever since. One of my favorite actors ever!
Remember in caps first movie the scientist "said a good man and not a good soldier"
That's why Bucky never go it
"... Not a perfect soldier, but a good man."
And who is to say Bucky is not a good man?!
@@criss6945 Let's face it, bucky is a pretty damaged man. Whatever he had done in the past was not his fault but those past is still haunting him. There's a lot of red in his ledger that hasn't been wiped out. He's now, on his quest for redemption and his main focus is on wiping out all those many reds.
Anita Rosie Ross facts
That and Bucky killed the creator of the shield.
Remember when Steve gave it up at the end of Civil War when Tony was crying about his father's shield after losing like a whiny little runt? Guess what else happened. Tony gave the shield back to Rogers, then it was destroyed. Steve went back in time to get a new shield, then gave it to Sam.
In Captain America the First Avenger, the guy says “not a perfect soldier, but a good man” this could be why cap chose Sam. Steve Rogers you will be missed
Bucky was also a good man before the brainwashed, he was steve true best friend
Bucky knew Cap wasn't coming back as he told him " I'm going to miss you." Seems they had talked about it.
Just no one. No one is going to replace Steve as Captain. He was captain & will be forever 💙❤️
I agree
That makes sense, but I'd rather see a Bucky Cap than a Sam Cap.
Ilikebeaversandeaglesupyourass holy shit no it isn’t 🙄 I’d rather see more falcon, so I’d like to see Bucky as captain America too
@Ilikebeaversandeaglesupyourass You people are extremely annoying.
@Ilikebeaversandeaglesupyourass Grow up
Bucky was a Wanted Assassin not a Good Fit 4 Cap
Ilikebeaversandeaglesupyourass ohhhk nice trolling
I think steve passing the mantle to sam proves that he chose someone who he deemed worthy and not just his pal because they are shown as childhood buddies. Giving the shield to bucky would not have seemed justified as mantle seeks all the qualities (which no doubt bucky would have had if hydra didn't mess with his brain) and passing it to sam means steve is totally unbiased for choosing the next Captain America even if his best friend stands in line
Sam was Steve’s choice because he’s a good man, a capable man, and the man who had been fighting by his side, risking his non-serum having life and limb, since the day they met. It didn’t have shit to do with whether or not Bucky could handle it imo. I can’t wait for the show to make it even more clear than it already is.
Is he a good man though? He’s constantly a jerk.
@@apprentice_jedi care to elaborate?
CZcams: How many mcu videos do you plan to upload in a single day?
Looper: Yes
Ok, I always though that Cap should’ve given Bucky the shield, but this makes so much sense
Tbh, I think captain shouldn’t have went back.. I really wanted him to continue the avengers 💔💔
The only thing that concerns me about Sam being the new cap is that Sam never received the Super Soldier Serum. Bucky at least got the janky Hydra version when they saved him.
Ah, but notice....the good doctor didn't choose Steve to become Captain America because he was the perfect soldier. Steve wasn't the hunky, muscular Captain America when he got his shield and the serum. The doctor chose him because he was a good man who had a good heart even WHEN he was the smallest soldier in the squadron.
CeltycSparrow - That’s a really good point. Sam was chosen based on his character, not his abilities.
But Bucky DID say goodbye. When they are talking just before Cap leaves, Bucky echoes the exact same line that Cap says to him when he goes off to war in The First Avenger. "Don't get into any trouble till I get back...how can I? Your taking all the trouble with you." To me, that subtle call-back was Bucky's way of saying he KNEW Cap wasn't coming back and he understood why. That's also why he didn't go to greet his old friend when he and Sam see Steve as the old man sitting by the pond. He had already said his goodbye to Cap. This was Sam's time to say goodbye. That's also why he gives that silent nod of approval when Cap gives his shield to Sam. As you say, Steve wanted a normal, happy life with Peggy, but he wanted that for Bucky as well. Bucky deserved to NOT have that mantle of responsibility, but both Cap and Bucky knew that Sam would be worthy of the shield.
Bucky with a shield and unbreakable arm that's OP asf
I figured that was the reason; it was like a "we can both stop fighting now" moment, which is why I didn't object like SOME ppl.🙄
Imagine if captain America give his sheid to spiderman?

I'm so confused.. When Sam says "Like it belongs to someone else." Did he mean that he felt that it was supposed to go to Bucky.. like many of us had assumed? Or did he mean that no one could take Steve's place as The Cap.. and that it would always belong to him..?
For the longest time it felt to me like it was the latter of the two.. but now.. after this.. I see the other side... he didn't want to be a stand in until Bucky was ready.. just a seat filler for the Winter Soldier.. He wanted to know that it was his.. He needed to hear it said.. He needed to know that he was now Captain America. I think I am starting to better understand this exchange.. and it really is sort of a beautiful wrap up to an amazing story arc between Sam And Steve..
Thanks Looper.. this helped change my opinion of that scene.. and it's gonna help me look harder at both iterations of these two iconic charactors.
Sam was the right choice considering Bucky's history.
Sam is to old and out of shape to be the next cap.
@@Legendary-zh9hd None of them are out of shape and Bucky is older. Sam is one of the youngest on the team.
@@drink15 Sam isn't a super soldier though, Cap often relies on his enhanced strength and speed more than the shield itself, Sam is more effective in his "bird costume" since he isn't exceptionally skilled in hand to hand combat.
Son of Dathomir yup and Hawkeye only shoots arrows and black widow only knows karate. Doesn’t change anything
@@Gaming944MRP This was done in the comics years before the MCU did it.
I love how Bucky knew Steve so well. And he supports him even though they both said they'll be there for each other till the end of the line.
Bucky needs some peace of mind he has been fighting his whole life it makes sense for Sam to get the shield!
'im with you till the end of the line' well that changed
I was watching End Game yesterday and noticed that about Bucky during that "good bye" scene
Because he’s a perfect soldier
Sam is a good man
I fully agree why he didn't get the shield. My question is why didn't he go with steve? His life was also taken from him. Pretty sure he had friends and family in the past. Most importantly he could've stayed with steve. In the disney+ series we see that bucky isn't really having a nice life after endgame at all. Hope they explain what bucky stayed in the present for...
The problem with the 'give Bucky a chance at his own life' thing is that Steve gets to live out his life in his own time.
Bucky is stuck in the present.
Not to mention he's an actual super soldier, which makes more sense than just a guy with military training.
He's also killed many Americans and worked against American interest for decades. Sam makes more sense.
I think Sam's character makes him deserving of the shield. At the same time, Sam is just a normal human of Olympic level abilities. Bucky on the other hand, has been enhanced, and much stronger, faster, and more skilled than Sam. It should have gone to Bucky.
Exactly! With his Falcon gear Sam Wilson is just an ordinary soldier not a superhero
O G ...but, also he’s a Good Man.
KpitGangsta no argument about his personality just not a superpowered human
Iron man is a normal man without his suit
@@jaythomas3224 Ironman's power comes from his intelligence. On top of that, the Marvel 616 Falcon had super powers. He's able to telepathically link his vision with all birds, making him the scouter of the team. The MCU version of Falcon is completely powerless. He's not intellectually gifted, no special armor. He won't even have a flight suit as Cap. He'll only have a shield, which anyone can wield. At least Bucky has a variant of a super soldier serum, along with a super strength metal arm.
Im positive that bucky wants to fix his legacy before joining steve in the past
Bucky doesn't need the shield since he already have the vabranium arm
Part of it is also because in Captain America: The First Avenger, the guy who created the syrum(I forget his name) says to Steve Rodgers, "Not a perfect soldier, but a good man." That really struck a heart chord with me. And while Bucky is a perfect soldier, Sam is a good man.
You’re saying Bucky is not a good man? He’ll be cap at the end of the phase. Only reason he wasn’t yet is because he’s not mentally ready. You can’t give a recovering brainwashed assassin that kind of responsibility...yet. Don’t make him something he’s not, Connor. He’s a good man and a good soldier, just like Steve.
I feel like it would make more sense for Bucky to have it for three reasons
1.He is just like Cap a super soldier unlike Sam
2.He often used the shield (in all three Captain America films)
3.The name „Winter Soldier“ is covered in blood, while „Falcon“ is not, so it makes more sense for Bucky to change his super hero persona
Based on what was said, that's a very wise and empathetic thing for Capn to do, kudos!
Yeah but Falcon with wings and a shield seems a bit much
That’s a lot of gear ⚙️
My uncle visited me outside of my house yesterday and surprised me with Caps shied that he pulled out of his trunk and it is bad ass😎
I wanted to do the same for my Best Friends’ Christmas gift, glad you got one!!!
KpitGangsta Thank you🙏🏼
If you remember all the bad he’s done, you would already know how bad it would look if he received the shield.
I dont think he was ever concearned with how it would look, i think he feels too much guilt.
He struggles too much with everything that hydra did to him and even knowing he had no say in any of his crimes, he cant forget them.
It will be something i hope they focus more on the Disney plus show, because i feel like his psyche is one of the most interesting ones to explore and it got kind of glossed over in the movies.
@@TvTrollByIvy exactly finally someone gets it

Although Sam is getting the shield I really want more fights were people toss the shield back and forth like in civil war
Falcon Is just a much better pick.
*Clowns* : No DiVeRsItY
Bucky receives the shield in the comics and so does Falcon. Bucky is also a super soldier so it makes sense. But Bucky gets the shield from Cap orginally because Buck overcomes the Winter Soldier persona. Bucky is the deserving carrier of the shield.. but the winter soldier isn't. Anyway I've heard Bucky will get the shield at the end of the Tv series on Disney +

i had assumed that Steve had just told Bucky what he was going to do beforehand. finding out that he didn't and Bucky just knew him that well is even better!
Here is what if Bucky went to Steve.
Bucky: Steve you stayed in the past.
Steve: yep tony told me to get a life so I did.
Bucky: so we made it to the end of the line.
Steve: “ takes out the shield” It yours.
Bucky: thank you Steve.
Steve: Sam come over here.
Sam: “ sits next to cap”
Bucky, Steve and Sam: “Look out over the lake as the sunset”
Falcon doesn’t have the physical abilities of Steve Rogers to be the next Cap. He’ll be killed on his first mission. Bucky would’ve been the logical choice.
Wait until their series then
Truth. He's out of his depth. If he couldn't top the Hydra guy one on one, how's he going to beat down super powered beings.....or even the minion beasts/beings that seem to make up the numbers for the pseudo-gods that these superheroes face on the regular?
Honestly speaking..... He is already pretty much perfect.... With the vibranium hand and a good heart.... Sam and buck make a perfect tag team
Exactly
Also, the public in that universe knows about the winter soldier and what he has done so do you really think it would've been a smart decision to give the title of captain america to an ex assassin/terrorist that was under the control of hydra for decades? No. The public would loose trust in the title of captain america so sam was the obvious choice
Bucky is more deserving not because he's the oldest friend, but he's the perfect candidate, (Bucky is even stronger than Cap during his Sargent days with no serum injected😉) the shield would make him the most powerful Avenger, but as Cap said he wanted Bucky to live a normal life since both of them are 100+ year old😲😄, and also Bucky always think he's not worthy, because of his experience as an assassin😢. Cap respect his friend's decision, and decided to pass his sheild unto the next generation, that's why it's Sam😊 Let's just be happy for them❤
Not a PERFECT SOLDER but a GOOD MAN
Steve : oh here u r here...
I would've liked to have seen Bucky get the shield instead of Clarence...
Although Bucky was programmed, people view Bucky as a domestic terrorist. It would be un-realistic for them to start viewing him as a hero.
Sam is a good guy like Captain America. He was the right choice.
I would like Bucky as Captain America because he has super soldier serum
"A GOOD SOLIDER BUT A GOOD MAN"
my favourite villein in mcu
the winter soldier 🔥
For all those people who are saying Bucky should have been next cap. Captain America resembles righteousness and truth from heart, I know Bucky is kinda good now but the he was kinda drafted to other side. So ,I feel falcon was a good choice.
I thought everyone knew this, i knew exactly why as soon as cap gave him the shield
Can't wait for Falcon/Winter Soldier series. Fingers crossed it won't get delayed again.
But Bucky isn't going to have a normal life because he's going to be in Falcon and the Winter solider
But depending on how it plays out it could be Bucky’s choice to help Sam. He wouldn’t be forced into it, in this case by having to uphold the mantle of captain America
Bucky Barnes should have been Captain America, he was amazing in the comics when he took the mantle to honor his thought to be dead friend.
@DC yeah this was stupid
Nice
Does this mean Sam will be called “Captain Falcon”?
Nope, still captain America
Falcon Punch👊🏽
Cmon Sam is the perfect guy to take over! He’s inspired by captain America whereas Bucky is inspired by his friend Steve Rogers. Sam is gonna be great With the shield I can’t wait to see him use it!
Can you do a vid talking about looper(2012)?
They did one already you need to go through their old videos to find it though
some theory I had had was that Steve knew that Bucky didn't need a vibranium shield to define him. Bucky wasn't the winter soldier because of a cold heart or because Hydra had found him in a wintery place - but because he fought his internal winter and because he WON. Bucky is more than a shield, than a symbol - and Steve knew that.
Cause Bucky is the Man on the Wall man. Comics XD
Love Bucky 🥰
i still after all the ranting that ive done about it.... the answer to where the "new" shield came from..... caps original one got FUBARDED by thanos.... and yes he did the time travel thing to put the stones back.... but the shield was a one off from the start..... but the one he hands off at the end of endgame is not the same.... its design is diff.... and he would not just steal his own from back when due to then he wouldn't have it through time to use...... i know that maybe it will be answered in upcoming Disney shows or in the next mcu phase but i noticed the diff in the shield from my first viewing of endgame.... and have not heard anything about it.... unless im just crazy or something
Bucky is kinda super human and sams still a human so like he needs some extra protection

I really hate the whole "the name must go on" thing in comics. It seems to exist solely so they can take a character away, to replace them with a less liked character, only to eventually bring back the original to drive sales. Captain America is Steve Rogers, Iron Man is Tony Stark, Superman is Clark Kent, Batman is Bruce Wayne. If you want an inheritor of those character's ideas fine but make an original character that holds up on their own. They can't because they can't write, nor take risks, nor take the time necessary for character building.
Also Falcon was always in the forgettable Avenger category. He didn't even need to be in the movies.
as much as I love falcon I do agree with your comment
And I agree with each aspect of the call.. reality is both were only half the man cap was, Sam the heart and morality and Bucky with the ability and experience.
Honestly I think he would’ve made a better cap. He’s enhanced like Steve so it makes more sense.
Eddie Thomas Yes it did. I’m pretty sure he was cured during his time in wakanda. And from what I recall you could only mess with his head like that if you knew the exact codes. But since those codes were presumably taken and destroyed that shouldn’t be an issue. And if Steve was willing to fight for Bucky despite knowing what he did (despite not doing on his own free will) then why wouldn’t he also at least consider giving it to Bucky. Yes, I get it. He killed Howard. But he’s still a good guy and on a physical level would make for a superior replacement to cap.
@@connorgolden4 the simple term is that it would be disrespectful. It's like you giving a valuable item to the murderer of someone you love. It's incredibly and deeply disrespectful. I get where your coming from but still it would be unjust.
Eddie Thomas I also get where you’re coming from and agree it would a bit disrespectful. I just think he’d make a better physical fit the role. Sam just isn’t strong enough to fill Steve’s shoes.
@@connorgolden4 yeah, true. In a way but I think it's more about developing in the role.
Dammit I was so close
It doesn't make sense that it would be Flacon rather than Bucky. Falcon doesn't have super strength or agility to wield the shield. His thing is flying. Bucky makes far more sense as the new captain America.
Cat knew he was on his own timeline there is no doubt in his mind when he goes back to return the stones and when he didn't come back I saw a look of recognition and Remembrance probably the new memories that Bucky now had and that's why he knew to look towards the lake. It's not hard to understand I mean no cap was at the funeral think about it
Heavy is the burden of who wield the Shield!
I accept that explanation. But as a fan watching a movie, I still would've put my money on Bucky taking up the shield.
Mike Noir Good point.
I think it makes way more sense as a redemption arc with Cap helping Buckey forgive himself for the things he did as the Winter Soldier. But Disney is going to have their stars give quotes about how they’re ok with it to get the fan base to ignore their bad writing. Diversity for the win! 🙄
Ugh! Diversity(as of right now in Hollywood and Disney) is strictly replacing any and all male roles into females and not ever once referring to adding more than one lead Black character(mostly relegated to the background anyway) at a time.
Wait somebody asked me how did cap get the shield back when it already broken during the fight
Bucky, at least as The Winter Soldier, is supposed to represent the darker side of history... becoming the symbol of light and hope that is Captain America never made sense, in the comics or MCU
I always felt both of them were worthy so it was a hard choice to be made. But it had to be made. I think Sam will do a great job with it.
I was kinda hoping Morgan Stark would be the next captain America. Since the shield runs in the family and since Spider Man will probably be the next Iron Man. I also wonder if Cassie (Scott Lang’s daughter) will become an avenger as well.
There are a lot of good points but one that many glance over is that Howard Stark made the shield. I feel like Bucky might’ve felt guilty wielding the shield.
Im really interested in the way they're gonna make Sam the next Captain, cause he's gonna need a major buff to step up to that role. Prior to getting the shield, he's probably inferior to War Machine in every way possible in terms of combat , bar agility. The shield itself won't even be that much of an upgrade since he doesn't have Steve's strength to use it as well as he did. Looking forward to Falcon & the Winter Soldier, but Sam will really need some protein shakes.
Dave DO I’m sure T’Challa has a remedy for that..
They deserve a movie
They are getting a series
Sure you can throw the shield because it's weightless but Without the super soldier serum, the fool is gonna fly on impact of a missle lol
But i still want Bucky as new captain America 😭
I see two reasons why Steve gave the shield to Sam.
1 Bucky had a history that would make people distrust him.
2 The next Captain America should be someone of the twenty first century, not the twentieth.
I also think that Bucky had already met the old Steve in the weeks after Winter Soldier.
Imagine bucky with the shield plus the vibranium arm
To paraphrase Black Widow, Bucky has too much red in his ledger.
