    I had a team that literally all crouched walked to not make noise and tried to sneak to the 1st point with the train overhead. It failed when I started looking for them, since they were taking so long to push the point, and stumbled upon them all sneaking through a hallway. But we laughed so hard that they actually attempted it and that was the most fun comp game I’ve ever had. They kept, as a team, trying all the weirdest goofiest strategies but I have never played another OW game where a team tried to SNEAK onto point.

      When I was doing dps placements a bit ago, I had a game where I feel I played a bit poor, but was cooperative, helpful with comms, and adjusted my dps picks to check enemy dps picks. Other dps, frankly, woefully underperformed and mostly just junk and pharah spammed at enemy tank regardless of what was happening.
      When we finally lost, he gets on mic for the first time and starts shouting at me to get my damage up because he ended up with like 2k more damage than me (about 10k vs 12k).
      I got a little mad, but that went away really quick when everyone else on the team immediately called him on it and defended me. They met his viciousness blow for blow and spelled out exactly how much more helpful I was.

    I had the swap suggestion scenario in one of my games just the other day. Going against 2 hitscans the other DPS switched to Pharah, I said you may not want to play Pharah against two hitscans. After he died, he swapped, and he got an endorsement from me. And yes we did win the game.

    • @dirusj4006
      @dirusj4006 Před rokem +23

      Another situation I feel people dont understand is you start a match with something like Pharah and they are good enough to force the other team to make a bunch of swaps it doesn't mean they have to swap off Pharah. If a Pharah is good enough to stay alive while 2 or more of their team is forced off their comfort picks and annoy people people the rest of the match or keep them looking up/behind I am all for it.
      Widow often creates a similar situation. "But they aren't doing anything!" Getting in damage and picks maybe not but forcing the other team to play different than they want to has value. A widow only needs one good headshot to scare the average support into hiding for the rest of the game.

    • @royceblack6752
      @royceblack6752 Před rokem +6

      This is a great example for why Flats is incorrect about the swap thing. You don't always have to give the player you're approaching an option when literally every other hero is better in the situation. Also on my part I don't like to tell players what they should play because I don't know how well they can play that hero and most importantly if they have fun. So if I were to tell another player for example to pick Widow against Pharah instead of playing Junkrat but they are useless because they can't hit a shot and are frustrated playing a hero they don't like then it's literally my fault because I told them to pick a certain hero. Maybe they would've done much better on Cass. Who knows.

    • @Siks7Ate9
      @Siks7Ate9 Před rokem +1

      @@royceblack6752 hence you ask do you play widow by chance? If they say no I don't you can always ask if they play a dive hero and you go dive the other supports if they do play a dive hero.
      I had a Sojourn the other day in ranked who was popping the fuck off but we kept losing the fight due to a phara mercy. I couldn't swap to dva because of them running with a max charge zarya and a mei. So the second round I said: sojourn any chance you could play hitscan? Your popping off on sojourn but our other hitscan is getting run down by the phara and the zarya. Do you play Ashe by chance? It will mean higher burst damage on both phara and zarya.

As I said I'm not really about winning as long as it's an okay-ish game without trolls or an absolute stomp fro any of the teams so by helping my mates I also have a chance to help their future mates and make hopefully make everybody have a little bit more fun :)

      If they are dogshit you tell them okay and then try your best anyways/try a different hero if you can think of 1 that does more/helps them out to make them have more value. For example going a shield tank when you have a sym so he will do more damage and survive longer or go zarya and do the same. You can't win every game anyways.

  • @SnakeSkinz
    @SnakeSkinz Před rokem +133

    Another one that I actually just recently dealt with is that sometimes before the match starts, it might be smarter to just give the hero you picked to the other person if they asked. I instalocked Bap cause I hard carry with him, but someone immediately asked if they can have him. I play all supports, and even though I doubted they could play a better Bap than me (and they didn't), I let them have Bap and I played Ana. We still rolled and won the game. The player was grateful, and the value you get out of this is that it boosts teammate morale; which obviously affects mental. There are a lot of players out there that if I said no, they would be mad and throw the game, or at least not try that hard. This doesn't mean let everyone bully you off your mains, but sometimes the better play is to just go for maintaining good team morale and carrying your own on another hero. This is why being dynamic in your main role is important.

Sure you may see your favorite streamer get upset at an Atk Torb on Hollywood, but in Bronze? Let's be real that turret has the best lethality in the lobby. Meta only exists if the players know to capitalize on why it is good.

    A few really good points that I had thoughts on:
    - The part about masters and gm being a difference in mentality is why I believe that diamond is the worst rank, because everyone in diamond thinks they’re shit because they’re so close to masters and the entire rank becomes toxic. And really in general gm players seem much more chill
    - The part about someone new trying to rush their 50 wins also was really relevant to me. I know this guy who I don’t really like that just got ow2 and they’re trying to rush their 50 wins to get comp. I played with them in qp for a few hours and they had no grasp on how the game should be played, and I just sat there and thought that they’re going to place bronze 5 and not climb for eons. To make it worse the first thing they ever asked me about the game was “how do I win with shit teammates” and I just thought they’re going to make a great ow player because they literally have 20 hours on the game and already think they’re better than everyone else

With that said, I don't think asking someone to swap is the thing to do at all, especially if it's as blizzard say and they want swapping to be less important to players just being strong and best on their favorite heroes. @marinemanaphy101 Před rokem +2

    “Don’t make it worse” is a really important thing. Learn how to not pick fights with your teammates, and learn how to de-escalate. Especially in a game like Overwatch where so much of it is based on harmonizing with your teammates, you can’t afford to have people who hate each other on the same team. Also, idk, it’s a video game. Try to be the kind of person where people end the game thinking that they were glad to have met you, even if they’ll never meet you again.
    Also, an important thing is that nobody on your team is a mind reader. If you don’t communicate something, nobody can know what you want them to do, and you cannot get mad when they don’t do what you haven’t told them to do. If someone says “Hey, can you switch” then that’s an actionable thing that I can do something with. If we’re at the end of the round and they’re saying “You’re a fucking idiot for not switching gg” or even just “Why didn’t you switch?” it’s not something I can take action on. If they say “Can you switch?” then I can either agree and switch, or explain why I can’t - maybe I can’t play the hero they want me to, or I can explain that I can get more utility out of the hero I’m currently playing and have just had some bad luck out of spawn a couple times, or whatever else.
    Communicating and being a decent human being doesn’t always win games, but being an asshole will lower your winrate more than literally anything else in Overwatch. Turn off your mic if you’re incapable of keeping it to yourself.

If you looked at my game play, you knew exactly why I was playing the way I was. When I died, I was going to switch, I kept getting singled out and screamed at by this Zarya, just got told to pocket him specifically, I said it's not safe, I'll just die. Our other supp was like just do it and I'll heal everyone else, I'm like ok I'll give it one shot. I did "pocket" (I was still healing everyone else anyway but made it look like I was pocketing when they were focusing on someone), I had no cover, I was super uncomfortable & knew I'd die at any moment. Thankfully the enemy team all stopped paying attention to me (?) & were targetting the other supp, so had to rez her a bunch of times & we won. It actually annoyed me that we won, it made absolute no sense to me. I was out in the open, just trying to keep moving so I didn't die, finding the little amount of cover I could. And I knew that Zarya would have been taking all the credit for that game, they didn't deserve it. Next comp game a tracer got mad at me for not dmg boosting them "enough", why would I be following a tracer in the backline to damage boost! I gave up & logged off lol.
