      And show how much damage you have done as a support and the statistics Vs the enemies team. Great to know I healed 10k that match, maybe the enemies support healed twice as much or did twice as much damage. If I did 10k healing and 2k DMG as bap and the enemys bap did 6k DMG and 7k healing and got 15 final blows more then I did I would like to know that.

    I tracked my games in Overwatch 1 with an excel tracker I created. The standard SR gain is +25 and performance-based SR usually adds +/-5 to that. Streaks happen later than they initially did on release but each win once a streak starts adds about +/-5 SR (per win after the start of the streak) to your wins too. You also get around +/-2 based on if you're the underdog team or not.
    If you're placing an account for the first time, you can expect a strong "Is smurf?" SR gain for wins and losses that increases significantly AFTER placements until you've stabilized.
    @Flats If you ever want to get a copy of some completed sheets to be able to dig into the numbers closer, feel free to DM me and I'll send them on to you.

      A win and lose in ow1 would go from 15-30 Sr ( accept when you had a 10 + game win streak, then u can get a +100 Sr boost for every win ... ) I placed plat , in ow1 and I was in silver 3 in ow2.. But after my placement.. I had 2-3 lose and 7 wins and i went up to gold 1 ... So I got 200+ sr from 7 wins and a few loses ( this is without 10+win boost ) so I can confirm, they will put you back in the Sr you belong .. I really don't like the new system, I'm not someone who stresses about seeing my number go up or down. I stress more about the quality of matches, and I want to know if my teammates and enemies are below or above my current rank, so I can adjust my play and have faith that I'm not just being thrown in with random players. I'm okay with losses if I felt the match was close and that the players were non toxic. I got the bronze placement bug, then when I climbed to gold really fast but then I started placing with a bunch of fresh installs who told me they had never played ranked before and that they are new to the game, because apparently gold is actually the default placement rank with the bronze bug gone. If I'm going to be thrown into being the carry of people doing their placements, I at least want to know tha. I can't even tell if I'm playing with / against a stack anymore, or maybe I've just only played with other solo queues.
    Most of all, I hate the lack of transparency. I'd be so willing to believe that the quality of matches and my ranking are good if I just understood how the system works. Right now I'm paranoid that the performance based SR is badly calculated, so instead of playing for the win, I'm playing for the max healing and/or damage stats in the game and avoiding all utility based heroes. If I knew with confidence that the system works, then I'd play accordingly. But how can I trust that the system is working well when firstly I don't know what the system is doing and this is all right after they admitted they had a bug in their ranking system?

    • @Siks7Ate9
      @Siks7Ate9 Před rokem +8

      Yeah like I got placed in gold 3 as tank aswell as ~2900 tank player. I had so many dps who legitimately had no clue how to play the game/follow up on the space created. Eventually I had to just go orisa and legit just ask for pocket healing and kill 3 people myself. Because I would get a widow who would lose the widow duel entire game, never swap, tells me to play sigma Vs the max charge zarya and the other dps would only shoot at the zarya. I asked can u stop shooting the zarya as tracer and just shoot on the backline or go on the widow? He said the zarya needs to die.
      I'm like yes but your playing tracer, she has 2 bubbles and 2 supports pocketing him and the reason I lose the zarya mirror is because I get headshot through cycling the bubbles by the widow because I can't push up towards their supports or past the zarya.
      Ended up being told tank diff by both dps.
      Our widow had 2.4k damage and died 17 times. Tracer had 4k damage and 15 deaths, I had 9.8k DMG and 9 deaths.
      Monkey didn't work either because they went reaper and just bubbled the sniper or the supports while tracer was still shooting the zarya. Every time I jumped in zarya walked into my supports and killed atleast 1 while getting pocket healed.
      Like I'm not saying it was my best game on tank but my dps died fist entire game long, and charged the zarya to max. The widow had 5 deaths because I killed her 5 times as orisa. I died 9 times because there was no point in pushing up further and giving the zarya more charge or ult charge in a 4v5.
      I rather waited until her charge decreased and we had 5 v 5.
      Both enemy dps had literally 5x the amount of damage my dps did. The zarya had 10.4k dmg.

      So many of my comp games have felt horribly unbalanced. Im in gold on all roles at the moment and I was a gold/plat player in ow1. Like one game my team would steamroll and the next we’d get stomped, I’ve had games against diamond players and new players. And the worst part is, if people have private career profiles there is literally no way to find out why the games are so unbalanced. I really hope they change something because it makes comp feel like even more of a coin flip where I have basically no impact on the outcome of the match.

I placed 4 times now, 2 times at bronze 5 and 2 times at silver 5. I climbed silver 5 the second time, and got silver 5 again after the SSR update from Blizz with 7 straigth wins (so Bronze 5 -> Bronze 5 -> Silver 5 -> Silver 5). I dont care if I am actually silver or not, but at the end of the day I expect to climb if I win 7 times with no losses. For me thats an indicator the system is still fucked in some way. Plat player here, got placed in Silver 1. Climbing has been fairly easy so far, but there are some games where my team has gotten absolutely stomped.
    More than once, I've gone to the enemy team's career profile, and there were players who were literally ranked Masters/GM in at least one other role, excluding what they were playing in my game, and clearly trying to rank up
    It'd be different if it was a normal, proportional deranking, but as of right now it's a 50/50 on whether I'll get paired with players way above or way below my skill level. Hopefully, with enough time, things will balance out soon.
    Update: Hit Diamond on support! Out of the metal ranks for the first time. Things finally started to even out around Plat 2, though still with a few of the aforementioned stomps here and there.

    I think one thing they could do is revert back to the old system for diamond and above or at least masters or above. People up that high probably don’t suffer from anxiety of the number going up and down as much as they understand how the ranking system works a lot better, and are players who are generally more competitively minded and care more about seeing the exact number, plus even if the number goes down after a game it’s still a big number (also knowing the number for potentially the best player in your friend group eliminates a good portion of the guesswork about who can play with whom).

That’s a good 21 games I ruined simply because I’m a masters support player and was placed 3 ranks lower. In addition, all my future games in the diamond rank will be also relatively unfair just because of my previous rank. The ranked system is not the best imo

    I do like that there’s less emphasis on the number going up and down. (I don’t even know what my win rates are or how much I’ve played total because I have no stats for this season, even!) But, the competitive challenges are set up to reward you for *ending* the season at a particular rank, rather than rewarding you for the highest rank achieved that season. Previously, I think the only place where the end of season rank mattered was for Top 500. I feel like the end of the season is gonna be extra-weird, with a bunch of players sweating trying to get over the line to the next rank.

    So I got a question, it's a sort of scenario.
    Imagine for a sec that there is a hero that cannot deal damage, cannot kill and cannot heal. But, on the flipside has some amazing kind of utility that if used right will result in a 100% win rate if your team can capitalize on it. How would that work out in an individual performance SR system?

    • @Strap89
      @Strap89 Před rokem +1

      Based on how well you used that utility, let me explain:
      The characters that Is more close to that Is Mercy. If you think About It, Mercy can win a game having 0 damage. So, heal Is important in numbers but the Key ability Is dmgboost, dmgboost and ress can turn fights, so Number or ress, %of dmgboost and heals even damage amplified ( cause you could dmgboost in the wrong moments). Then how many deaths Is important ( this for every characters, but i fell that this number with supports Is even more important). Least but not last damage done/kills, cause sometimes your team can't finish a kill or you Need to defend yourself. A really Good Mercy would balance well DMG and heal having lets Say 60%/40% - 50/50 . She would DMG boost at the right moments, so per Say 2000 DMG amplified? ( That Number Is a Guess, cause i'm not the best Mercy and i do Always Little more than 1500 DMG amplified), at the same time She Will have a really Good ammount of heals per minute.
      So what matters are the numbers that her kit provide. You can't expect a Mercy to have10000 damage, i've reached 1000 DMG in matches where i had to pull out the Blaster more than usual, but if you do more than that you are basically playing a full Battle mercy

      @@Strap89 I think this is why I'm very skeptical that a performance based SR is actually working as intended. Because there's so much nuance to the game that stats alone do not indicate how good you are. How does damage boost affect ranking relative to another utility like sleep dart or speed boost? Does the system understand the difference between hitting a random roadhog with sleep dart vs hitting a nano blade genji? Can the system tell what a life saving speed boost looks like? All you did was explain utility, you didn't explain how SR calculate utility.
      Performance SR seems like it simply wouldn't work given the complexity of the game and the diversity of the heroes.

    • @Strap89
      @Strap89 Před rokem

      @@iminumst7827 well, while the Number of sleeps alone can't Say much, the Number of assists and deaths Will . If your sleeps are good you Will die less and eventually have more assists, even if you hit good nades in the right moments this Will increase your assists. So, while the Number of DMG boost do not Say much itself, you Number of assist and DMG amplified combined with It says if It was effettive. Is not perfect right, It can't be but at least if you play the Hero Better than people in the same helo in therm of stats you Will have a small ammount of extra sr that Will make your loss less important or your wins even more rewarding. I mean there Is litterally no downside for this, Is not that performance are more important than win and loss, Is Just a small rewarding system.
      To be honest, i'm ranking up pretty fast from bronze ( silver 1 currently), today i had a match impossible to Carry, i played Moira and in two round of push i got 12000 heal and 11000 damage, resulting being the top damage and heal of the match with also the most heals and less deaths of the entire lobby, we still managed to lose the game. If i get -20sr instead of -25sr due to my stats, to me this seems pretty fair.
      I'm not even someone Who says Always that Is his teammates fault but there are some games where you pop but One of even more of your teammates are Just really underperforming or feeding hard and you can't do much About It. At least this Will reduce the frustration

This has happened to most of the players I know, they finished last season around gold or higher and got placed bronze 5 while needing to win 7-21 times just to see some change. After playing some games and winning most of them I got moved to Silver 2 and now I am consistently getting match-ups with the opposing team being CONSIDERABLY better than us and I got like a huge (maybe 14-15 games) losing streak. I am playing a support and even though I feel like I could've probably performed better (maybe not my best games but not my worst either). Tanks constantly running out of line of sight, DPS sitting out in the open with a sign "shoot me" etc., etc. It felt like that even the system is based off of the old SR-MMR they have maybe touched something or maybe there is a huge influx of new accounts of better-than-me players which skews my point of view, or idk - something else. I was a low masters player at the end of OW1, when OW2 launched I was placed plat 5. Games definitely still felt hard. Ranks in my matches go from high silver to low masters players. The one thing all of us had in common? We were all high diamond or low masters at the end of OW1. I had a set where I lost 7 games and won 7, I went from plat 2 to diamond 5. It feels whack but it'll adjust itself over time. The game definitely knows where you need to be, even if your division doesn't reflect that.

    I actually really like the new system reducing the sting of losing. It's a game at the end of the day, not a job. While I play the game seriously I do get anxious about seeing my rank go down especially after a match where I tried my best and still lost. Logically, I've always known that climbing the ladder is about the moving average, and you shouldn't worry so much about specific wins and losses, but when I don't have a lot of time to play 30 matches a day (where I would get a more intuitive sense of my average win rate), it's nice to have the game break up my wins/losses into these buckets for me.

    I wish it took into account your individual stats. It placed me bronze 5 in healer. Many of my losses were playing with (probably new) people who don’t understand NOT staggering, tanks that don’t understand creating space, etc.
    I mean full games of once the spawns are off, there’s a single death every 15 seconds for the entire length of the match. DPS spawns, runs and dies. I’ve had tanks that will stand outside of the point, and just NEVER go to the point.
    We’ll get a loss and I’ll have 15k heals and 7k damage, barely die bc I’ll fall back once it’s 2v5, etc but it’s still a loss.
    I’m not great at the game, but it seems like unless I play with at least 2 friends, I’m stuck on a never ending staggering team or a tank that won’t push at all, or a dive tank that never comes back for heals.
    Or I’ll get a team that works together and we completely steam roll the other team. There’s been very few close games, or games where both teams seem to understand how OW is played.

  • @rasmachris94
    @rasmachris94 Před rokem

    The TLDW;
    Ranked has a background rating for where players are in the ranking system [SR] and a hidden player rating [MMR] for them individually.
    Points are awarded to your SR relative of that to your MMR.
    If you're below your MMR with SR you'll be awarded more points and lose less.
    If you're Above your MMR in SR you'll be awarded less points and lose more.
    Ranks did not reset for OW2 they just hid your SR.
    So your actual ranking in placements will be your previous SR from OW1 + points for 7 wins / 20 losses.
    With the soft reset people are being pushed back by about 1000sr.
    However, it will not take you as long as someone new climbing to get back there, as your MMR will still be at that level rewarding you with more SR per win and less SR lost.
    It gets more confusing as the bracket for being able to play with other players is about 1 division above or below, but this is calculated with SR not Division rank.
    An 800 Bronze player is not treated the same as a 1000 Bronze.
    If your SR is 800 and your friends SR is 1850 you will not be able to play together even though by logical of the division system you're Bronze and they're Silver.
    This is because the range of SR between you is too big, even though you're both classed as being in ranks that can play together.

    @adamihnken2739 Před rokem

    So when I got put in Bronze 5, I started keeping notes between matches. I went 7/4 in my placement for Tank. 7/5 to Bronze 3. 7/4 to Bronze 1. 7/9 to Silver 4. 7/3 to Silver 3.
    Now if we assume that win/lose is still the measure and performance plays a small roll in boosting you, I still have some questions about why my rank jumped 2 each time until my best set of 7/3, which my notes say two losses were from leavers during the second round despite full pushing in one first round and defending at 1 point in the other first round. Also had a leaver on my team in one of the wins where we had to push 2 and 1/2 points down a damage.
    That last set was easily my best performance personally as well. With several team kills, 4/7 wins and 1/3 loses having PotG. I also had the largest increase in my stats during this set. Yet seemed to rise in rank the least.
    My question is why? I know I’m no GM but I used to be high plat/low diamond, more recently I was fighting my way through silver and gold in solo queue after a two year break. Is this seeming slow down due to catching back up to my previous general rank?

    This is super complicated. For example, a friend of mine was a silver tank player. He played 3 heroes in his last season in OW1. Zarya with a 81% win rate, Sigma with a 69%, and Ball with a 74% win rate. He played about 30 hours of comp. Every win averaged 12 SR gain, and every loss was between 35-75 SR drop. Is this their system attempting to skew his sr closer to mmr? How does that make sense or make a balanced true competitive experience? Wouldn’t it also be true that if you have a positive win rate against a certain rank you would be better than that rank right? TLDR: blizzards competitive mode is confusing and I don’t understand rankings still.
