The one at harbor freight works better
Put it in the top hopper I bet it works much better than the suction hose. Because gravity may be better also its still not a pressure blaster that would work way better for the application your using it harbor freight sells them pressure blasters pretty cheeper. But that little spot blaster works better for body repairs when your doing a small 6inx6in area or Glass or metal etching like on a cup or mug
Read the directions!!!!
@@davidjessee7701 Never!
I k k,@@MattsShop
2000 pounds of sand later and you restored one $8 wheel lol
Lmfao!! Probably will take him a year to do one wheel..🤣
Wire wheel
legend 😆
Exactly, the media is what starts becoming costly.
@@finnheidenreich947 tarp and use sand . $22 per ton
That hopper is gravity feed bro let's stand that tire up right
Absolutely right.
Who everTAUGHT YOU TO READ THE DIRECTIONS THAT CAME WITH THE CHINESE MADE TOY?
SAND DOESN'T FLOW UP HILL-- Rember yor science class in high school??
@@harrybrunett2054 lol he said he can’t read only pictures so it justice
Upright*
what I was about to say, needs to be standing up
That's a vertical hopper there randy.
Was only using the suction tube.
😂😂😂
Lighter media might help 😂
lol
Bro , this comment got me cracking up. Thanks my dude
That was painful having to watch you ride the struggle bus
It's okay. We all have to from time to time...
@@MattsShop ain't that the way lmao
STRUGGLE BUS!!!!
Ima steal that!
Have an awesome weekend
Lol. It didn't really look like a big struggle. Just trial and error.
@@tomschmidt9923 me too , that's golden ✨️
Maybe if you use it in the right direction/orientation....
Nah he'll figure it out
Haha watch the full video.
Keep it parallel you goon

*diagonal
*inside out
*upside down

“it doesn’t flow well” holds it wrong
Suction tube It doesn't matter
Or have the bucket raised with the suction tube in the bottom of the bucket.
Another week or so and you’ll have that rim right where you need it to be
Gravity feed , stand the rim up and don't tilt the gun to much.👍
Sandblasters require a lot of air. So it depends on the size and power of your compressor.
Stand the tire up and keep the gun level
You have to keep the hopper upright so it'll feed correctly.
Take a drill bit to the inlet on the gun from the hopper. Make the hole just slightly bigger. This worked well with mine.
3 days later you have that rim halfway finished haha
Gloves and a full hood will keep you safe and clean
How about standing the tire on end and using the gun in the proper position/orientation.
I tried it again standing up. Worked pretty well...
@@MattsShop Yeah, those cheaper, lower quality guns are typically better suited for flat or relatively flat orientation so they flow better.
Also, how much PSI do you have coming from your compressor?
@@MattsShop nevermind, I watched the full video.
Abject failure framed positively 😅
A little over 30 years ago I was doing the exact same thing with a $20 sandblaster that would siphon the sane out of a bucket. I sandblasted the rims on my 1974 Chevy stepside pickup and a few engine parts for the SBC that I rebuilt for it. Here's hoping you have as much fun as I did!
And only a MONTH for the whole wheel huh? Nice👌🏼
Bro you'd be better off with a softer long bristle wire wheel and an angle grinder
I've had one for years works great for cleaning spark plugs
They don't get it!
This is CZcams shorts not TikTok you gotta post full video to engage the feed to bring a greater audience. Looks great but most people won’t venture to the video they’d rather keep scrolling.
Lol that was basically it.
Stick with it and I'm sure by Christmas it'll be looking good.
Unless you only work with small parts, or have the knowledge to make major modifications, Inexpensive sandblasting equipment is far more frustration than it's worth.
Yeah he thinks he's really blasting 🤣
seems pretty slow. maybe hold it so the nozzle is horizontal and use a harder medium.
personally, I'd probably use paint stripper and rust remover
Read the instructions, maybe? Nut case! 😂
Tell me you’ve never played paintball without telling me you’ve never played paintball.
You better have a big enough air compressor 😮
I got an 80 gallon!
@@MattsShop
Cool anything smaller would be running all the time.
Sand blasting takes a lot of air I’m sure you know.
I increased my volume by adding a 100# propane tank that helped but it was also a pain in the ass too. 🤣
@@MattsShop the tank doesn't mean much
@@jonr.747 Correct. It's the cfm that matters most.
@@JM-yx1lm he doesn't understand he thinks he's really doing something 🤣🤣🤣
It's not going to flow aimed at the ground stand the tire and rim up and keep the gun level it'll work a thousand times better
Suction tube!
I bought one...if you use baking soda, it must be sifted - no clumps or it will clog. You must have a good compressor or it will not work after a few seconds. I have a small compressor, and for the first 3 seconds it cuts like a laser, and then quickly fades. It does well on light paint coats and surface rust, but it will not tackle the heavy stuff...not meant for that. And by the way, that hopper will not last you two minutes and it makes a mess. It is what it is - small, quick jobs with small area or parts. It does work - check your application.
People keep mentioning the hopper but he is using the tube feeder and not the hopper so it doesn't matter how he is holding it. Just saying.
They all think I'm stupid 🤣😭
You can do it faster with a wire wheel on a 4" grinder.
Probably better for small stuff like brake calipers or knuckles. Also you’re supposed to keep it level
use silica sand. well dried and sifted. also keep the hopper level for best flow.
Hopper all wonky, no gloves, man's killing his back because tables don't exist...
Top notch! 😳
The pressure washer sand blaster attachment works way better from Amazon
Cuz you're aiming the hopper down it stops feeding that one is designed to be pretty well level
You should be keeping that medium in a sealed container that’s connected to your air supply and running a 1/2” hose for the sand and 3/8” for the air.
This is an optimal setup for any gun
Legend is he’s still blasting that single wheel.
I wouldn't want this guy advertising my products.
Fun fact, the black diamond blasting sand you used in this video is probably the most common sand people use in aquariums!
Also 1600 in Canada
I did mobile sand blasting for years and I can promise you your going to want to wear long sleeves and protect every inch of skin you can. Whatever media your using will get imbedded in your skin. It’s not fun.
Yea, I didn't test it very long because I needed long sleeves.
Because of the way you are holding the sand tool.. Hold it horizontal or pointing upwards
Doesn’t have to be hanging on something, he is basically clogging it by facing down
Good idea
When it clogs up, push the tip against the rim so the air back feeds real quick and then pull back away quickly and it shall help with the inconsistency
Good tip!
I think he rode the short bus
Yes! I didn't get to ride on the limo bus we called it.
😂 stand the rim up so all the sand ain't falling in front of the hopper the feed right it'll shoot right
I do professional industrial sandblasting and this works well on regular car acrylic paint, but that will never work on powder coated paint so keep that in mind if you're trying to do powder coated removal
It works good on that paint
Man's is holding it with 2 hands 😂😂😂
These people are the reason why tide pods say DO NOT EAT.
Stand the wheel up!
I bought the cylinder-style HFT sand blaster. It also was inconsistent. I'm going to try the finer stuff like you did. I should have walked off the garage with plastic because that crap is still everywhere.
Use that stuff outside over your grass. You'll be seeing it in your shop for the next 20 years lol. The finer sand worked great.
Wire wheel in a drill works way faster
No!
I see you've been taking a lot of beatings in the comments but kudos to you for keeping at it and learning
Stand up the rim man! 🤦🏽♂️
I would say not bad but the laser cleaning much better than this.
Laser rust removal. You know expensive one of those things is?
I Recommend play sand, if it spills you don't need to worry, And easily swept up to re use. I use play sand in one like that, and glass bead in the cabinet. You won't need anything else really.
Good way to get silicosis
A spinning wire brush would have done better.
Lol nobody in comments has a clue. There definitely isn't strong enough air compressor
Lol I already posted my setup.
Yup use finer I like the white fine sand for blasting
Set the tire upright on a table to keep the gun and the hopper upright. 👍
Buy pool filter sand. 10 bucks for 50 pounds. Works amazing. Get that #2 sand
It'll damage your lungs!
Pls put time lapse to see if worth buying, maybe the steel Bush is still faster?
Those work decent with glass media
You can use playground sand , it works as well if not much better and cheaper . Just make sure that it's not moist , needs to be completely dry .
Moist 😂🤣
Believe it or not it's easier to use brush on paint stripper on the whole thing to get the paint off then go over the rusted areas with the sand blaster less work
Try impact beads and keeping the gun horizontal.
Maybe if you stand the wheel upright the blaster would work better
Need some good moisture scrubbers on your air as well.
I have a big sandblaster and don't use it too often. Too messy and not cost effective always. Now if I had a blasting cabinet, I would probably sandblast parts more often. I mean they do have their purpose.
I have a similar unit, even level it's very inconsistent. It was a good experience, I quit sandblasting because it's a messy & time consuming task, all the more with more powerful & reliable outfits.
Murat if acid and 5 minutes and spray with a water hose should do the trick too just don’t forget to neutralize the wheel with some baking soda water afterwards
I use that same coal grit and the fine is so much better, it works better and takes less metal off.
Crushed walnut shell is really good to use
As one who has used sand blasters in the past that thing sucks.
Lean the rim against a wall and let the sand blaster gravity feed from the hopper into the gun. They are not designed to work like you used it
Use a wire brush (on an angle grinder) to get the bulk off sandblast for tight bits.
“Safety last” NO
Safety never
We use something like that but made from walnut shells
You can buy the same type from harbor freight if you don't want to wait on it
They work well. Maybe you should read the instructions though
Try holding it upside down it might flow better.
Use a tarp to collect the sand and reuse
keep it upright, use washed sand, blast on a tarp for easy recycle, pour recycled sand through a mesh/ flywire, rebound from one surface to another, use a moisture trap on compressor air out feed.
Get your work set up so you can actually use the gravity hopper effectively.
Was using the suction tube...
Maybe a suggestion. It's worth a try. The gravity hopper has years of tested use.
Spray forward not downwards
Put the rim into a vertical plain, so the gun will work properly.
Drill the nozzle a bit bigger it a know issue with small abrasive guns . Also make sure it's super dry .
You must not like to read the instructions. Sometimes they send out the wrong instructions, such as, how to use the blow dryer, instead of the sandblaster.
So how do you feel about sanding after?
It's also.a.good.idea.to.use a painting dryer in the air supply chain to limit moisture because water in your airline will limit or stop air.flow to your blaster. Also drain water that will accumulate in your compressor supply tank.
Stand the wheel up so you shoot horizontal. Works lot bette
I like the harbor freight sand blaster.. It didn't cost a whole lot... Just gotta have a decent air compressor.
Try it with the gravity fed hopper.
Pro tip ( put paint remover on first , let it bubble and wash it off , also any rust bubbles or where the rust is thick , chip it off with a hammer, now use that blaster to clean the rim , u will be able to all 4 rims in the time it takes to do 1 just blasting it with those type of blaster ,nice video 👍
Hold it level and stand up the tire
Suction tube. Didn't matter.
When you spend more on the sand to sand blast then just buying a new wheel 😆
Holding the thing correct would help.
Have you ever wondered why shit flows downhill ? “Later” !
You have to blast it vertical itll flow better
