- In this video, I am joined by Tom and Maggie for a woodland overnight camp in my new Rock Fortress hot tent.
After getting all the camp chores done, we light the wood burner and settle down to cook and enjoy some good food, a couple of ciders and a few games of cards in the cozy warmth of our heated tent.
Winter camping has its challenges, but is great fun and by using a tent heater, you can enjoy the warmth and comfort that you get at home - heat, a glowing light, ambience and a stable cooking platform to cook on - perfect!

This video was so heartwarming to watch. The bond between Simon and Tom is priceless. And to see Maggie getting her special treats is precious. I actually was moved to tears, which is quite rare for me. Thank you for allowing us all to share in this experience of a father and son bonding. Much appreciate your hard work Simon. This has to be the most heart warming, touching and feel good video I have ever seen on your channel Simon. The connection you and Tom have when you're camping out together is absolutely precious. I get this is an old video… but you no what I really love the father son aspect of simply camping but then playing cards by camp light few cheeky ciders good grub what more could you possibly want.. what a nice bit of father an son time ❤
It's so nice to see a dad that cares enough to take his son camping and also to see a son that is willing to spend time with his dad...creating memories that will never be forgotten and growing in experience because of this time together. My brother and I grew up without a dad and wish that we could have known him and shared those same experiences. I am 65 yes old and I remember the backpack fishing trips with my Dad , happiest times of my life. I'm from Upper Michigan US . Trust me your son will cherish that time together when he becomes a old man too.

As a former Royal Marine Commando who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, I can safely say that being outdoors in the middle of nowhere, in all that wild natural landscape, that vastness makes me think "what am I to all of this? I'm insignificant...so my problems are insignificant, too"

Nice camp Simon, I thought Felix's knife was rather good especially for one so young, he definitely has a good eye. I'll have to take my boy out with me camping now and give him a cider, he is old enough (34) infact he's probably had more ciders than me already! Yum kebabs looked great:)

I can’t believe I’ve just spent 35 minutes of my life watching a bloke and his son play cards in a tent on a frosty evening. And cooking up sumptuous kebabs and good breakfast the following morning! Hahaha. Great memories made. I must prise my grandsons from the parental grip and do likewise. Thanks.
Hi simon, great video. Do want to metion taht CO (carbon monoxide) is actualy heavier then oxigen and most other gasses in the air. General advice is to have it bellow your head level while sleeping (atleast as far as gass stoves and similar are concerned).
The confusion comes from smoke detectors as smoke does rise.
Thank you Joeri! That is a common misconception - CO is actually slightly lighter than air - the advised height for a CO detector is around 5’ off the ground 👍

With you and your youtube colleague, Andy, cooking while camping, I get to witness a culinary extravaganza. I love lamb, but unfortunately I married into a non-lamb eating family. It is also great watching Maggie get her fair share of the feasting with you and your son. Finishing your overnight camping with a full English breakfast was just wonderful. Great video. This reminds me of me and my dad sadly we dont camp he's a taxi driver so always working but before him snd my mum split me and him would sit in the dining room have a good few beers and I'd aldo be having a joint as he doesnt smoke qeed anymore and we'd be playing cribbage. Dads still alive which im obviously grafetul for. This just reminds me of me and my good ol' scotsman father💯🤝♥️

Good to see Tom and Maggie out there with you. Wondering, have you ever used the tent stove as a fire pit, outside the tent and cooked over it, maybe with a grill? Stoves tend to limit the size of the wood and fire, and keep the fire off the ground, preventing digging out the turf. Just a thought. The knife and sheath are beautiful. Just learned that there are more sheep per person in the UK than in the US, that Brits eat more lamb than beef or pork. I had my first taste of lamb, in my 50s, on a visit to Ireland. You have it routinely, camping, and you both really enjoyed the kababs. I will try to find lamb (not readily available in SE Texas) and give it an honest go, in honor of you and Tom. Looks like Tom is tired. Thanks for sharing. Texas
Thanks mate - lamb is a popular meat over here and for good reason - it’s delicious! By far my favourite meat for roasts etc 😋
