Overnight Camp in a Cave with Kent Survival. Whole Chicken in a Kazan Pressure Cooker. Viking Beer.

- In this video, I am out on a very exciting overnight camp in an abandoned 16th century cave house with Andy from Kent Survival. After our hike to the location, we spend some time exploring the cave, prepare firewood for our campfire and prepare dinner for the evening - whole roast chicken and vegetables cooked in a Kazan Afghan pressure cooker. Dinner, a couple of good beers and lots of laughs around the campfire and its time for bed - simple bivvy bags on the cave floor.
The cave is believed to have been inhabited by the infamous Shropshire highwayman Humphrey ‘the wild’ Kynaston before he moved to the much more well known cave house at Nesscliffe in the early 1500s. The cave has been home to many others since and its last occupants, a family of 5, vacated the cave in 1890.
The cave is privately owned and its location is a closely guarded secret. As a result of this, it has remained undamaged by visitors and associated graffiti and is in pretty much original condition, deteriorating naturally as nature slowly reclaims the cliff in which it was dug. The nooks, the chisel marks, the fireplace all remain including the built extension next to the cave, with its roof, although long since collapsed, is still there - rafters, tiles, bricks, sandstone blocks and 500 years of rich history.
I would like to thank the land owners for granting us kind permission to visit and an enjoy the cave for the night and to my friends George and Rachel for organising the visit - thank you!
I hope you enjoy the video.
Thanks for watching.

You're so welcome!! It's was so great meeting you both, honestly amazing guys! So glad you captured how beautiful the cavehouse is, always welcome back 😁😁 food looked delicious! So glad you liked the beer 🙈😂 loved the blooper at the end, Andys got some mooooves! 😂😂
Amazing. How would one be able to visit? Myself and my wife essentially.
Can't help feeling a bit sorry the roof has fallen in. Is the cave house listed?
Hey, thank you for allowing us to see your awesome Cave!
It is always interesting to see new locations that are not typical "survival" & learn how different people lived & live. And the sheer amount of history in that place is pretty impressive as well.
Thank you so much Rachel!! It was such a beautiful place to spend some time and an absolute pleasure to meet you too 😁👍
@@johnnycobalt2758 Hey, unfortunately the cave house is on a private estate so isn't open to the public!
Simon and Andy...perfect camping duo! Thank you both for a great adventure !
Great video. Had a bit of a chuckle watching Simon step straight into his boots with out shaking them out first. Here in Australia a creepy crawlie would have made a home in those comfy boots.🕷🕷🐍🐍🦂🦂🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺. The two best Bush Cooks. Love seeing you Two together again.
Howdy Simon! I just want to say, I've been watching for a few years now and your videos are always so very wonderful. I have fairly bad anxiety and troubles with insomnia, however, when I watch your wonderful adventures, be it with Andy, Maggie, Tom or just yourself, I'm put at ease. You've really helped me get more into my own bushcraft and just be more at peace in hustle and bustle of everyday life. I'm able to nod off and sleep well when your travels are playing in the background. Thank you for sharing your passion with us all. It really does mean the world. All the best!
Gold medal video, outstanding location, best one yet. The cave is a monument to history and the lives that
agricultural workers were leading pre WW1England, much of which is documented in Ronald Blythe's award
winning book 'Akenfield'. In it there is a recipe for estate made beer, during harvest time each worker had
a free issue of 17 pints, yes seventeen pints per day as documented on page 62.
I'd bet odds that Andy was still hungry afer that chicken dinner! LOL! It looked fantastic, juicy and flavorful! Another enjoyable adventure! Thanks for sharing!! Cheers Simon!
I love watching the videos where you get together with another CZcams vlogger.
How interesting, I’ve watched Andy for quite some time, Simon, I’m new to your channel, so glad you are friends…👍🏻it a treat to watch you camping together, love the cave and the history lesson.
History Lesson. Good food. Good beer. Good friends. What's not to like. Thanks, Simon and Andy. 👍🙂
Simon a bloke in a cave with Kent scarevival 😎 never heard of masonry bees, cool. The good old days of the highway men! Great historic place. Some of the wood maybe looked coppiced. That tree was massive that had come down, maybe a fir, huge!
The boys are back in town, well a cave. Great video.
I wanna see Lundy camp with em that would be glorious
It was a fantastic place! Yes, the cave is on a large private estate, so much of the woodland is coppiced and filled with unusual and non native species - it was once quite an ornate place!
I love the history of places and their people. I could almost feel what the old-time inhabitants felt as they woke in the morning to the sights and sounds that you were able to record. Great adventure!
Awesome as always Simon. You and Andy are truly awesome together.
I love when y'all do videos together
GOD BLESS Y'ALL
KEEP ADVENTURING
Two of my favorite bushcrafters,I thoroughly enjoyed this video, hopefully you’ll both team up again, nice moves Andy ,you rug cutter you! Lol
Another great video. Thanks for sharing your camp with Andy with us. Absolutely love the Pressure cooker idea. I'm gonna see if they are.sold here in Australia. ❤
Awesome area to camp in. It's like being in a time capsule. You have so much more history over there than we do in the states. We have a habit of destroying things over here. Loved the video !!
That was great 👍🏻
Andy nailed it on the breakfast 👌
Biscuits and gravy is a Southern delicacy, and my favorite breakfast item. Most southerners make it a little more thin by using more milk, but it did look good.
The Question arises, did it have a proper "bite" of black pepper . Personally I like using half a can of condenced mushroom soup with a splash of milk. But need a good Tablespoon of black pepper.
I love these videos! They remind me of the Hobbit. All you seem to do is make big dinners, drink large beers, then consume huge breakfasts and coffee.
You could break into song to complete the image.
Hahaha - and Andy could dance to it! 😂👍
Classic! Really hit the nail on the head there!
GLAD TO SEE YOU GUYS BACK TOGETHER FILMING, OUTSTANDING!
Pressure cooker and cast iron Dutch oven..... lol you guys sure packed light for the backpacking trip.🤣🤣🤩😂
EPIC camp out! The cave house is fascinating and that pressure cooker chicken looked divine! Sausage Gravy biscuits are my absolute favorite breakfast🤤. Well done!
Thank you to the two of you for sharing your night away in the cave. I love the music that accompanies it. I do like dumplings in my chicken stew.
What a great outing. Thanks for sharing.
Those southerners would be mighty proud of that breakfast!
I love it when you two get together, it's always a good watch :) thanks fellas xx
Awesome seeing you out in the woods together again! When I watch these videos you both make individually my heart is full and happy. When the two of you get together it’s like I’m hanging with two good friends around the fire. Thank you and Andy for making these videos to share with us.
Thank you Simon and really great to see the same thing from too different points of view!

What an awesome place to spend some time, looked awesome with all the candles and lamps lit. That pressure cooker is an interesting piece of cooking equipment. Good job you started cooking before opening those mammoth cans of beer.

Can't help but continue to watch this video. The beaty and historic significance is outstanding. The Vast history regarding England is endless. Simon as always I appreciate your outstanding videos and like wise to kent Survial, the genre of your content is something I admire. The influences from your vid has encouraged me to take on camping with my young family
