“The first challenge was to make it cinematic,” said Zeller. “I didn’t just want to film the play.”

Hopkins' dementia break-down where he cried for his mother to get him... was the most heart-breaking piece of acting I've ever witnessed. Give him all the Oscars this April.

Olivia Colman comes across humble and baggage free. No starry air around her. That reflects in her performances.

I watched the movie today at the theater and was overwhelmed with sadness and grief for poorAnthony and his his doting daughter Anne. I left the theater in tears. My .mother had seem dementia and passed away peacefully (I pray). 4 years ago. Miss her so, now my aunt June has it and I miss her so...shes in her 90,s. I would recommend this movie to anyone. It's priceless but a heartbreaker.

I think it was brilliant to include the audience in the confusion of dementia. Florian's changing subtle things in rooms, different paint hues, etc. The two scenes that were heartbreaking were Coleman's face while being stroked by her father near the end. And Hopkins last five minutes, probably the finest acting ever captured on film.

I just watched The Father, and everything Zeller said about the use of production set to tell the story - I felt it. Certain scenes I thought I was watching a horror movie.
