Stephen Colbert, thank you for giving Anthony time to talk and not only allowing him like 2 minutes! He deserves the respect you showed him.
This! When Hopkins is talking, you shut up and listen.
Also when he dances Salsa on Insta 😄♥️
That's exactly what I was thinking... so many talk show hosts would have felt compelled to talk over Hopkins. Steve knows to shut the hell up.
I found it disrespectful to constantly call him Tony, several times in a single sentence. They aren't on the same level of experience, age, talent, or skill.
Couldn't have said it better Peggy.
I needed this after watching The Father, just to prove to myself that Anthony still is all there. He of course is, but it’s a testament to the acting and the film that it could make me doubt like that.
Same!!
Anthony Hopkins is just about the best actor that this world has to offer.
ditto
That's what Carol Burnett said on her Q&A on her show decades ago.
You are so right
He is the best.Easy.
He is the best living actor without a doubt.
Anthony Hopkins is the best living actor 100%
Agreed.
Also, "The Father" is a brilliant movie. Just watched it. My favorite this Oscars. But it won`t win couse is too depressive and not "woke".
The Best and the goat
All the best actors aside from Marlon Brando are still alive
@@adagioelegy1949 Peter o Toole and Lawrence Olivier no more
The performance of Anthony hits really hard, especially that ending scene omg I was in bits.
The fact that he just refers back to the script and doesn’t have all this pomp and circumstance while discussing his approach to acting shows how truly talented he really is.
None of the Hollywood bs, a true actor who does it for the craft, not the lifestyle.
I interviewed Anthony Hopkins for The Wolfman and he started spouting off poetry and I had to kick myself to remind me "you need to talk about The Wolfman....you can't just listen to him say pretty things in that voice." It was amazing and he even wished my mother a Happy Thanksgiving. Just an amazing man.
I am in LOVE with The Wolfman. I watch it at least twice a month, absolutely heartbreaking. But oh my god is Mr. Hopkins phenomenal!

hahahaha yeah he seems to do that, love him
To be 83 and to have such an outlook on life and one's remaining years. Wow!
I looooooove when Stephen asks meaningful, honest and deeply intelligent questions about things he likes... this movie, by the way, is as good as he says.
I haven't paid more than $6 for a movie in over a year and I'm currently looking at how best to rent this. Will happily put up the $20 for rental to support this film ❤️
I love how Florian is just watching Anthony speak with such a look of adoration ❤️
When Tony Hopkins said he still plays piano made me so happy. He wrote a beautiful piece of music: "And the Waltz Goes On".
Did you see him play in the Two Popes? Stunning and inspiring!
He's a magnificent human being.
If you get on Instagram, he has several videos of him playing. It's lovely.
It's Sir Anthony Hopkins.
Fun fact: the pieces of music in the film were chosen by Hopkins himself. The character was even named Anthony because the writer had Hopkins (and only Hopkins) in mind for the role.
Stephen is right on all counts. "The Father" is heartbreaking. It is also profoundly disorienting and beautifully made, and Sir Anthony's performance is simply astonishing. I have no doubt, Anthony Hopkins is our greatest actor today.
Anthony Hopkins one of the all time greatest actors out there. His work is sublime.
I hate villains. I hate the dark side, but Hopkins con make even a cannibal endearing. He is a talent beyond measure.
@anthony hopkins you're welcome
This movie will be required to all my nursing staff once it can be streamed or bought on DVD. Many reasons to why but one thing stuck out. The entire movie you don’t know what is real. You experience it like he experiences his reality. By the last scene you are mentally exhausted and never really get a good resolution.
The end scene, if we saw it first, would be typical thing for my nurses. An old man regressing and broken. But when it’s last, you’ve been on the ride together you see a man who was fighting harder and stronger than any of us have to in our daily lives. He is losing his mind but his strength is extraordinary. It can help my staff give these patients the respect they deserve as they aren’t pathetic, they are merely exhausted after their daily long battle.
Very true. I had cared for many dementia patients over the years and everyone of them deserve respect and caring. Families and care givers should see this movie.
That's something so profoundly truthful. We tend to forget that those people have been fighting dementia for ages, they've gone through hell and now they are just terribly exhausted. Yes, they lost their battle. But not before they put a fight. And the battle they lost is the battle everybody loses. There's no way of winning it.
“Her unbearable habit of laughing inanely.” Stopped me laughing dead in my tracks as well. God *damn* does he still have it.
Exactly! I haven't seen the film but that little line and his delivery gave me chills.
were you laughing just bcos the person on the screen was laughing? thats kinda demented
@@captainmercy87 Me too.
that scene had me 🙌🏾😳🙌🏾
Thank you for transcribing it. I’ve never heard that word before, I don’t think. I guess it means something bad.
I am continually surprised and impressed by Stephen's interviewing skills. He allows time and space for the guests to talk, asking insightful and thoughtful questions, and actively listening in order to ask or comment on the guest's response. Stephen also shows great respect for those he interviews. Well done.
I love Anthony Hopkins describing K. Hepburn’s advice. Great advice for a young actor.
Anthony's off the cuff impersonation of Hepburn was gold! 🏆
They are both so humble considering the masterpiece they have done
My mother has dementia. It's just so sad watching her confusion. She was once so vibrant and alive. Today she is just a shell. Wish there was a cure for this terrible condition. This film is heartbreaking and real. Hopkins deserves an Oscar!
My mom too. I have a hard time being around her because she’s so changed.
@@dyanspeaks6010 I can relate my Mother too. And it is hard to see her disappear before my eyes and turn into someone I don't know anymore. She is not cruel or angry just different, then she gets moments of clarity like the sun coming out from behind a cloud and tells you she loves you. It's all worth it then, all the empathetic pain I feel of witnessing the slow loss of herself, it leaves me drained, hence reluctance to visit. But I will go because I love her. :(
Both my parents had it. My advice: love and embrace them for what and who they are *now*, not simply remembering the past. Because eventually she will be fully restored and THEN some ...and you will be together. There’s no ‘darkness’ at the end, only LIFE. Nothing slips away, nothing is truly lost. That is only termporary....God gets us all in the end.
For me it’s my father. It’s not the confusion in his eyes that get me, it’s the fear in his eyes that I find heart breaking
One of the greatest actors ever. Living legend.
No words, just thank you Florian and Anthony
I just watched the movie yesterday. Its on my all time top 5 list and Anthony Hopkins performance is the best ive ever seen in a motion picture. Thank you for this masterpiece. Without Anthony Hopkins it wouldn't be soo great.
My dad passed away from multiple sclerosis. It’s painful seeing your own parent falling And dying of a terrible illness it’s heartbreaking he had so much joy in life growing up . I take life each day at a time.
Sorry to hear that
I am very sorry for your loss but happy you have found solace in the joy your father experienced during his life.
Wishing you and your father well.
So sorry for your loss. ❤️
Florian Zeller is obviously on the path to a great career. Intelligent, charismatic and a wonderful spirit. Who doesn't adore Anthony Hopkins?
I just realised that I live in mortal fear of the world losing Sir Anthony Hopkins😶
😭😔
That's how it felt watching this movie...
Spoiler alert;
A truly amazing film, super intelligent and clever. The creeping changes to the set, the main characters being played by more than one actor to add to Tony's confusion. Olivia Coleman is just as good as his long suffering daughter at her wits end. The final scene where Tony has regressed to being a young child just wanting his mum was one of the most powerful scenes I've ever seen.
Sir Hopkins is a consummate professional- he clearly works very hard at his craft. Respect.
Thanks for all the love and support. I am blown away by the love from you all. I know these are hard times but with love and faith we shall all see the light again 🥰❤️❤️. Love you 🤗.
Thanks for always looking up to me through my posts, feel free to write to me via hopkinsanthony159@gmail.com
Florian may not be well known in US but he is incredibly intelligent artist, from his books to plays and now the film. He is one of the rare talents who managed to break into English speaking world. The world is richer for it!
His wife is very famous because she was/is the main character on a show during 16 or 17 seasons.
I'm happy that they are happy.
I love Colbert the best when he shows how ridiculously smart he is. You can't help but stop and take in every word and you can also tell the guests appreciate those really intelligent questions as well.
He’s such a legend ❣️
God I love this man! Stephen and Anthony, thank you Stephen for calling him welsh and not just saying British ❤️
There you are Lucy!!!
Thanks for all the love and support. I am blown away by the love from you all. I know these are hard times but with love and faith we shall all see the light again 🥰❤️❤️. Love you 🤗.
This movie was very touching. Anthony Hopkins was phenomenal and this has to be one of the best performances I have ever seen.
OMG, Anthony! Your candor about play acting (deceiving us into believing we're experiencing reality) in mesmerizing contrast to the mystery of it, is another masterpiece.
What a pleasure of an interview. Lovely.
I could listen to Sir Anthony Hopkins for hours on end!! What a wonderful man! Great interview!!
Such a beautiful transformation when Sir Anthony was asked about his first film. Lovely of Stephen to finish the conversation with that question so Sir Anthony can shine freely with all his light, wonderful as he is.
Anthony still has it !!
Just love what he does !!
As a practilar nurse who's working with eldery who have Alzheimer I'm really interested in seeing this
I'm scanning back and forth to where it mentions which 'on demand' service it presents on. Do you know? I can't find it.
I'm a now fatherless daughter - I have a feeling that watching this film might be one of the most profound experiences of my life! And, Anthony Hopkins - he just keeps getting better and better doesn't he. Wow - he still crackles!
@@batintheattic7293 Really don't know. I live in Finland so it's different for me also
My mom has Dementia so I don't think I can 🙁
@@ROBYNMARKOW Understandable
I'll be really interested to know what you tink about how true is the movie in representing daily life for the elderly as well as the carers. I just watched the movie and it is like Stephen says, heartbreaking but beautiful. Very recommended.
It's been a long time since I've wanted to see a movie. Especially this type of movie. I like a movie to transport me somewhere amazing, a movie that makes me say, "wwowww!"
I don't like drama. If I wanted drama, I'd go visit my family.
I want to see this!
Everyone forgets about his splendid performance in The Elephantman. A touching, caring role, with real feeling for the title character, when mostly everyone else sees him as no more than a circus freak.
Another movie, you can pick up on DVD, Titus, from Shakespeare, Titus Andronicus.'Shakespeare's not usually my bag, it's a bit overlong tbh, but Hopkins performance alone makes it well worth while.
Anthony Hopkins so unique and assertive in his point of view. The movie was great. 💕

Brilliant and delightful minds all three living blissfully and purposefully. I hope he wins the Oscar. He deserves it, truly the best performance by far by an actor this year.
"I was always obsessed with the wind and the rain, leaves and the trees.."
Me too Anthony, me too x
Agreed, probably the greatest performance in recent times, and from an 83 year old genius. Inspired beyond measure. His piano playing is killin' too.
This must be the most serious and beautiful discussion on television. Thank you.
This is a brilliant film, and it deserves every Oscar. I wept, I laughed, and I remembered my parents...one cannot ask for more from a movie.

Was quite stunned seeing this movie. Anthony is the G.O.A.T!
This is by far one of the best movies I’ve been seen in these past years. Well done Florian and Anthony Hopkins.
Wow 🤯 I will treasure this for the rest of my days: Anthony Hopkins' anecdotes and impressions of Peter O'Toole and Katherine Hepburn 👏🏽
I love the "fragrance of mortality"!
Anthony Hopkins is one of my favorite actors, very dedicated to his craft, and a wonderful Human Being! Thank you, Stephen, for sharing him on t.v., well on CZcams, for me.
Sir Hopkins is a Global Treasure ✨
Sir Anthony Hopkins will always be One of the Greatest EVER! Much Love and Respect and May God Bless you with Many many MANY MORE HEALTHY ENTERTAINING YEARS.

In my eyes, The Father is the best, most impressive and most affecting movie of the year, by far.
I wish Hopkins would deservedly win (Stephen is correct in saying that this is his greatest performance) but unfortunately I doubt anyone has a shot against Chadwick Boseman this year.
I just finished up binge watching _Westworld_ and Sir Anthony was definitely the star of the series. How that man can speak with that voice, ever so slightly cock his head, raise an eyebrow a millimeter and crook a slight smile for emphasis in one scene is more than most actors achieve in a career.
If you haven't watched it already, have a look at the Nerdwriter episode where he breaks down Hopkins' performance in one of his Westworld scenes.
He’s so good that just his tweet video late last year about his sobriety anniversary was more moving than almost any performance I’ve seen in recent memory.
Anthony Hopkins stories helped me decide to stay-quit drinking this year after 19 years of drowning myself. One of the All Time Greatest Actors. I still have fond memories of a date to see 2006's "Bobby" in downtown Reno. I didn't exactly hit it off with the girl, but we both really enjoyed the movie. Not sure why the critics didn't seem to enjoy it. Kneeways, thanks for the excellent interview of an inspiring legend.
I'm really glad you managed to stop drinking 🤗🤗Congratulations.🥳 And much courage on your road to recovery 👍🙏
@@kiha6702 Amen to that! Well done.
Even with the glitchy video the audio was clear. Profound interview, thank you. 💙
Anthony Hopkins 👀
Florian Zeller 👀
Stephen Colbert 👀
I love how Hopkins uses his blinking as a rhythm in his performance. He’ll switch beats on a dime with perfect control. All in the eyes.
Sir Anthony Hopkins is as brilliantly sharp and witty as Katharine Hepburn. You can't get enough of watching them talking about life. Their wisdom goes beyond any limits.
Mr Stevenson was the name of his character in Remains of the Day.. such a great movie! Loved The Father.. such a fantastic actor.

Sir Anthony Hopkins is one of the most profound human beings to have ever walked this planet.
I just love ❤️ this man, Sir Anthony Hopkins.
I know I'm going to cry for real when I see this movie.
oh yes you will. But it's amazing nevertheless.
The character he played in The edge will always be the character with the greatest message. His greatest acting May lie in other roles but the edge is a masterwork to humanism.
Bravo stephen! You brought something out of Anthony Hopkins we don’t always get the chance to witness. Fantastic interview.
He's one of the greatest actors of all time
Anthony Hopkins ! One of the all time greatest and greatest living actor. ❤️
I was literally wincing in pain watching the final scenes of The Father. Devastating acting.
My father had Alzheimer’s. Watching a parent I cared about deteriorate and suffer as he did, while my abusive and uncaring mother did what she could to “hurry along” the process to get his money and benefits faster, made me sick, made me cry, and made me feel horrible and guilty that I could not do more. Dad’s last smile to me, as he somehow recognized me before he died, made me realize that no matter how much the part of the brain death occurring in that part that remembers and knows, there is a part somewhere that has the memory of love and knowing of the person’s child. I will never forget my dad’s smile of recognition and love. And I will never be able to watch a movie about anyone suffering from Any kind of dementia if I can help it, as it’s just to painful!
I feel your pain about your Mother, and am so glad for you that your Dad recognised you and could clearly sense your bond. Sending you love and hugs.
I fully appreciate your choice not to watch the film, i too wondered if it was a good idea. I have read several reviews from others who have experienced the trauma first hand like us, the same gut wrenching sadness of watching the deterioration. They mentioned that watching the perspective of ‘The Father’ actually gave them a telling and relatable experience that somehow offered some peace from the trauma. People really do need to see this film about reality. I hope that he gets an Oscar.
@@ravedandall I found the film deeply disturbing, but in a way cathartic and certainly brilliant. I think the film will mean the most to people with personal experience of this sort of thing, but not everyone will be able to deal with it. I would encourage people to give it a try though if they think they can handle the subject matter. And Hopkins deserves an Oscar for this portrayal more than most people who have won an Oscar before, but he's sadly not favored to win to the (potential) disgrace of the Academy.
A monstrous daddy ... Mr. Hopkins sharp as usual. If only I could give you a hug. Thank you to him because during this pandemic he made us laugh. Infinite gratitude🙏
Steven could you maybe have Sir Anthony Hopkins back on the show ? We so love to listen to his experiences, his amazing life story’s.Please,Try !👍🏻

Absolutely amazing movie, acting, script and production design. My favorite movie from last year. And I agree when I saw it I thought the same “Best acting I’ve seen the last 10 years” he absolutely deserved the Oscar. 👍🏻👍🏻 great show Stephen
This movie is the best I have seen in a very long time
Now they both were awarded Oscars for their work on this great film. Well done!
Excellent interview with the best actor out there! I love his acting since I was very young and i've first seen The silence of the lambs. Thank you Mr. Hopkins! Ty Mr. Zeller for giving us the chance to see him shine again! Ty Mr Colbert, I've just seen the movie and wanted to see an interview about it. Very very nice!
Thank you Sir Hopkins.... you are among the gifts the cosmos has bestowed upon human kind... carry on Sir... 👏🏿👏🏻👏🏾👏👏🏼🖖🏽
Anthony Hopkins....what a wonderful treat. Thank you Stephen.
This was really an excellent interview. 3 stellar minds, meaningful questions, thoughtful answers, and they genuinely took the time to listen to each other. I mean, Sir Anthony Hopkins.. Just an incredibly talented, absolutely amazing, lovely soul. And sometimes, just sometimes, he likes to headbang!! 🤘
I did know Anthony Hopkins is a great actor, but he also seems to be a really really great person. Moving answers to great questions!
Academy, please understand that by giving the Oscar to Chadwick Boseman out of sentimentality, you're not honoring him, you are disrespecting his legacy. You wouldn't want your tombstone to say that you invented or discovered something that you didn't because that would be undeserving and disrespectful to your first and foremost. There are plenty of other ways to honor Chadwick, and he will forever live in our hearts as one of the greatest actors of all time. But this year it is Sir Anthony Hopkins who gave the best Lead Actor performance and Chadwick would be the first to graciously admit that himself if he were alive now and were able to see the magnificent film that The Father was. Please don't let the great 90+ year old tradition of rewarding the best achievements in movie history fail on April 25th. Do the right thing. Do the noble thing. That's what Chadwick would want you to do, too.
I would pay to listen to Anthony Hopkins reading the telephone directory.

We read this one poem in class last semester (can’t remember the one) and I legit imagined him reading it. And then in class, when we finished studying the poem, our prof played an audio recording of the poem...and it was read by Anthony Hopkins. Best class ever.

Devastating and extraordinary film!
Anthony Hopkins is remarkable.
Stephen: "How come your characters always seem in control of their situation or themselves?"
Anthony: "I read the script and learn my lines."
What an absolute legend.
That's up there with "why don't you try acting"
"I'm a very good actor, Stephen."
-Anthony's answer to the first question, paraphrased.
At first glance, but I also heard, "I just prepped. You could do it, too."
FAIL
He's not even wrong.
I love Anthony Hopkins, he is the greatest actor in my book! "What one man can do another can do!"
Only Colbert could make the transition from silly Chris Evan's penis jokes to a moving, eloquent interview with Anthony Hopkins.
I've been watching movies for sixty years and I've seen a lot of great acting. What Hopkins achieved in this film is transcendental. His last five minutes are acting at its finest. The entire screenplay is sublime in that it involves the observer in the confusion of the character. Stephen's right. The best performance I've ever seen. Olivia Coleman was superb!
