- The 1997 Drivers' World Championship came down to Michael Schumacher vs. Jacques Villeneuve at the European Grand Prix. As the two competitors went wheel to wheel, this F1 Classic lived up to the hype at Jerez.
Full Race Highlights of the 1997 European Grand Prix of Formula One, finished with modern 2022 graphics, restored footage, and Murray Walker and Martin Brundle's commentary.

Schumacher still the goat
"that didn't work michael, you hit the wrong part of him my friend" always gets me lol. Brundle can be so sarky, but we love him for it

Schumacher was indeed a dirty driver. I never rooted for him because of that. I was so glad that Villeneuve won the championship that year. The podium celebration was great.
I always loved how Brundle roasted fake and woke celebrities on his grid walks, ridiculling them and showing the whole world they are there not for the sport but just to be seen, knowing BS about F1 at all.
He said what we were all thinking.
I was always a supporter of Schumacher until about 2002 when it became unbelievably boring

Such passion, as he said in the commentary, nearly 50 years at this point and still gleeful and delighted at the racing, what a treasure he was!
RIP Murray - his voice goes so well with the modern intro music , its incredible 😢
His voice always sounded like F1 car engines, it was perfect. It's been a long time since he was THE commentator for the F1, but I grew up listening to him, and so he'll always be number 1 for me. I do love Brundle and Crofty and they do a fantastic job as well. But it's still not quite as good as Murray Walker. RIP
Murray made everything sound so much more exciting even if it was a dull race.

Love that Schumachers move was so blatantly obvious that even in real time the announcers called bullshit. Not a single moment to think it was unintentional, just straight to "you hit the wrong part of him"

@@tantegreta yeah it was all over the place tbh, that shit absolutely wouldn't fly today though. I think after they gave The Michael the DSQ for the entire season, drivers started to sit up and listen.
Murray’s intro is so fantastic. Such genuine enthusiasm. He looooooved it.
I love how Brundle called out the deliberate attempt to slam into him instantly without waiting. Disgraceful.
This made me smile when I watched it live. It was payback for Schumacher’s psychotic move on Hill the previous year.
I assume you're actually talking about Adelaide 1994 and not something from the 1996 season, given that this clip is from the 1997 season?
@@FatHead1979 Yes, you’re right. I got my years mixed up. I’m old and it was a long time ago, but the moment was still easy to remember.
And wen hill hits Schumacher two times in 95 in Silverstone and monza... Watt you tell about it?
@@jacintoparrinha4957 Schumacher braked early in Silverstone, Hill braked too late at Monza. In Australia, Schumacher hits the wall, dives back across the racing line, then deliberately turns into Hill. He was a psychopath just like Senna.
Schumacher was clearly ahead by more than half a car length, so it was his corner, no matter what. Hill was simply impatient and went for a gap that any racing driver knew wasn't there when he was so far back. Assuming Schumacher did damage his car (which there is no conclusive proof of) and that that's what Hill thought (a statement he made in earlier interviews but that he later retracted), all he needed to do is wait for the next straight. All 3 incidents between Hill and Schumacher were clearly Hill's fault.
I still remember how my dad said after the Schumi-Villeuneuve collition that Mika would win his first GP and yelled me and my mom to watch the race to the end. I hadnt really watched F1 that closely before it, I do remember watching Nurburing GP before it where Mika got his first pole but unreliable Mercedes engine failed him yet again in the race....so it was really memorable when he took his first win in Jerez.
And afterwards in from first race of 1998 onwards Ive watced almost every race and got to witness Mika winning his both titles and ofc Kimi's memorable championship in 2007. Will be quite some time unfortunately for us Finns before there is new Mika or Kimi in F1. Bottas wasnt up for the job but perhaps one day we shall see Tuukka Taponen in F1 (he is currently diving in Italian F4 championship and is the 2nd best rookie this year there) and perhaps even Kimi's son Robin in more distant future in F1
I've got my eye on Taponen.
I watched that race live on TV. What a great moment to be a great moment to be a Canadian sports fan. Cool thing you did adding the graphics.

Slim, agressive, reving like crazy. Until 2004, when they got more and more wings and shit on sidepods, and weird front wings.
@@silvioantonio6952in my optinion 2006 was the last year with good aero... After that they mounted more and more flaps and wings on the cars. One of the ungliest things are the rim covers from 08-09... 🤢

some points of interest: theres 3 prost cars and only one benetton, Alesi drove for benetton that year. theres one sauber missing and that would be norberto fontana. ukyo katayama's minardi is missing.
I'd add that Berger is shown as finishing over 8 seconds behind the leaders but he's right on their tails.

There's an error. Alesi didn't drive for Prost then, but for Benetton.
And only the top6 is right by the finishing order, the rest is listed randomly :)
That's a typo of course, but "Micheal" Schumacher in the beginning part.
This just shows the sense of drama we have lost since the commentary of Murray Walker
I do prefer the simpler graphics of the 90s maybe I'm being nostalgic 😂

I was only like 11 years old at the time, so this is cool to watch. I didn't discover F1 until maybe 20-25 years ago. I remember being annoyed at Schumacher's dominance.
I was lucky enough to witness Schumi-Mika battles before Ferrari started to dominate, I began to watch F1 activelu (almost every race) from start of 1998 season. But ye unfortunately its been 1 team and driver domating more often than not in these 20-25 years than not, but atleast there has been some really exciting seasons here and there like 2003, 2005-2008, 2010, 2012 and 2021
As a fan of Mika Hakkinen from 2000, I can relate.

I think part of it is the tvs, often a 68cm cant display text super clearly, like it will have lots of pixel light leaking around each word, hard to read no chance listing more than a few things at once

It was a good time when there were no rules that today put an end to F1. On the track, the driver had the freedom to put others off the track, use the side lines to overtake, or cut the path. In that case, Michael Chumaker got it wrong.
