Erase and Reset Mac to Original Factory Specs 2019 Guide, before selling or disposing your computer

- If you are selling or disposing of your Mac you will need to reset it back to factory specs and erase all of your personal data.
This method will allow to to reset you Mac back to the Original Mac OS X Operating System version that shipped with your computer.
That way, when you sell or give away your mac it will be in pristine condition with the exact operating system, it had when it left the factory.
Remember to BACK UP your data before you perform this procedure. It WILL destroy all the data on your Mac.

Yes, this worked straight away. MacBook Air 2011 now has Lion OSX, so now I’m loading Logic 9 onto it because that is the sweet spot of software and hardware unity. Thank you

My kid got a hand me down mac book from her aunt and she said she didn’t want it because she has her iPad and her school computer, so when we got the mac from my aunt they had my kids info set up already. But dads gonna use it now and I didn’t have a clue on how to reboot the system so I can just have my settings! This helped with ease! Best video I’ve seen

If I did a factory reset would I lose programs like Word? Acquired another iMac from a deceased aunt. So need to get around Apple ID and iTunes and other things. What would be the best way to go about this without messing things up? Or should I just call Apple and have then advise? It's a 2008 iMac desktop 27".Thanks.
A factory reset, would delete all of the software loaded. If you have the password to get into the Mac itself, you could set up a new account for the Mac for yourself through Users & Groups in the System Preferences. The you can enter your own Apple ID when using that account. You can also delete your Aunt's account from there when you're ready.

I am trying to reinstall after deleting it previously for a new owner for my laptop. Now I want to install the OS. It keeps on giving me error saying "an error occurred when preparing the installation".
Changed the date and time still nothing.
So I am trying to start from the beginning by erasing everything again. APFS is greyed out. When I choose Mac OS extended journaled, it gives me an error.
