What if it doesn't have an erase option when you get too the Macintosh HD option?? I can verify disk or repair disk but erase isn't an option. I've made it to 2:01 unable to do that step. HELP!

After I have press the Power+Option button, I do not see the Recovery HD icon..only Macintosh HD. and when i press Macintosh HD…it restart my Mac back to the desktop. Please help…thank you

Having same issue.
This factory reset worked great. But you must erase and delete your documents folder and your recent activity after the reset is complete. These files are still active and on the computer. Thanks for this great tutorial,.
when i get to the installation part it says to sign in with my apple ID but when I do that it just says. This item is temporarily unavailable...any ideas?

To those who doesnt see recovery HD, when its time to shut down your mac, and you turn it back on, its NOT ONLY Command and power button. Its Command+ R button+ power button. Once it makes a noise or you see the white screen when it turns on, let go of the power button but KEEP ON HOLDING the command+ r. You have to wait for the apple logo to load before you let go of it. You only let go of Command+R when the recovery loads. Then you can follow the steps.

Same thing happened to me . I called apple and they told me to add in the original Apple ID that was put on before.i did that and it worked !!

What if it just image with the old username and not RECOVERY HD

It didn't work for me. After erasing the disk, I got stuck on installing OS (Apple couldn't verify eligibility of my Mac. Really Apple?). I ended up with the Internet Recovery: command - option/alt - R on a restart. What is important in this process, is that you have to be connected to Internet with a cable.
I need help. I bought the Macbook Pro several years ago and I have recently restored due to errors and lags, as well as frequent freezes. After I erased my data, I went to reinstall Mac OS X, but when I logged into my App Store account it said I hadn't purchased Mountain Lion. Now I can't reboot it and I cannot buy the Mountain Lion OS X, since it isn't available on the App Store anymore.
Anyone know the solution to this problem?

You blew right by how to get it to connect to wifi in the beginning. Why didn't you show how you did that? Around 1:14 mark, you skip it, and its critical!
When i try to reinstall os x it wont verify my eligibility… when i bought it off offer up it wasnt locked i could do whatever i wanted i thought until I tried to go to the App store and it said there was an i cloud account on it already. It had been dropped so the casing is kind of messed up but screen isnt cracked and it worked fine. Well it was their daughter’s and found it in their storage unit. She didn’t want it so they put it on offer up. I bought it l tried to do this now camt do anything because it wont let me. I tried the control s thing and it says there is a lock on the computer

it's a fugitive. sometimes they do that. when they eventually get caught they face harsh sentencing from the cloud judges..

While starting up hold cmd+r the whole time until the recovery window starts. Skip the option button or don't hold the power button the whole time.

Hi! I'm a complete technophobe and everything with more than one button confuses me. But even for a person like me, your tutorial was very comprehensible! Thanks! I do have one question though: before I start erasing everything: is a regular time machine back up sufficient to recover all my files on the HD? Or if not, what kind of backup do I need to make? Also I want to install an older version (I have Yosemite, but my 6 year old MacBook can't handle that version anymore and it's painfully slow). Is this possible? Please help me, I'm hopeless 😂!

After the reboot how long should this step take? I just replaced the HDD with a 1tb SSD, done everything up until 3:18, it rebooted, shows the apply and the spinning waiting symbol and it doesn't seem to be getting past that stage. Any ideas? I don't ever seem to get to the installation part, the spinning icon just keeps spinning. How long should it spin?
