  • Today I got a Chinese pressure point massage, which is based around the principles of Chinese medicine and is basically a deep tissue massage at Chinese acupuncture points, or “xuewei” 穴位. It was extremely intense and painful but it actually felt really good afterward. If you’re interested you can go to Liangtse Wellness, a top Chinese spa in NYC, to check it out: liangtse.us/

    I had horrid carpal tunnel years ago. I had a friend who lived on an Ashram outside of town with her mom. My parents never really liked me going there because it was home to a small local cult but the folks there all seemed so interesting and nice. One day I told my parents I was going to go because my friends mother was going to tutor me in algebra and they agreed. I went we did my lesson and after we were done studying my friends mom made us lunch. My wrist was hurting after writing all the math problems and her mom noticed and asked what was wrong. I told her about my diagnosis and that my doctor said I needed an operation. She suddenly grabs my arm, pulls it toward her and put her finger into a spot on my wrist so hard I screamed. She was a tiny lady and it felt like her whole body weight was on that one spot even though it was just her finger. It lasted a while and I was thinking the whole time omg my dad was right these people are nuts! I should never have come here to this weird commune! She finally let go and said it would be better. I was like yeah okay lady, ouch. We ate and I went home.
    Anyways I passed my test and my wrist never hurt again and I never needed that operation.

    I have a lot of deep tissue sports massages and after the first couple I started stretching like crazy so it would hurt less. It was quite interesting to see the overlap between what I medicinally believe in (nerves, muscle knots, toxins) and the traditional stuff (energy etc) overlapping into very similar results in how its done.

    • @Amrylin1337
      @Amrylin1337 Před 2 lety +1

      It's good you said "believe". Although it's odd to "believe" in things that don't exist. Especially observably. Knots don't exist. Toxins somehow released through massage don't exist (wouldn't you be in poor health if they did? Spoiler alert, all mystics tell people they have toxins to get rid of). Energy really has no evidence whatsoever. I imagine you'd enjoy one of those reiki no touch massages where they move your chi around while collecting your paycheck too?

    I would actually love to try this. I've been exposed to myofacial/trigger point massages and they hurt but afterwards it's relieving. I do systema and Russian massage, haven't tried a stick massage but I've had someone stand on my calves and back. The one thing he should have done to bear the pain was breathing. Inhaling and exhaling to relax as much as possible and reduce the tension. That would have helped him and the Dr, because during most of the massage, he and his body were very tense and fighting the pain rather than accepting it.

    I've had this done, and while it is quite painful, you do feel a lot better afterwards when you'd swear you can touch your elbows together behind your back. It increases your range of motion and breaks up restrictive scar tissue. In America it's called nmt, trigger point, deep tissue, or sports/medical massage therapy. Good for weightlifters or people recovering from back surgery.

    As deep tissue massage therapist, I would do a lot more warm up with Ari so he can get used to my touch and energy. Then great sink in to the trigger points rather than barreling in there from the jump. That's how I was trained. But this is a different culture and school of thought so if you like this you go there. If you don't, you go elsewhere. But, for someone as jumpy and giggly as Ari, I'd definitely start out slower. And I'd make sure to tell him to go to Walmart and spend $10-$15 on a roller so he can get himself used to the pressure on all those tender spots. It's not supposed to be a test of pain endurance.

    OMG I miss having these massages! They are great and not painful for me. I would describe it as isolated intense pressure, with release. I have never seen someone react this way to these massages. I can understand that it can catch someone off guard if they’ve never been massaged, or been aware of trigger points on their own bodies before. But to this extent…. This was def something. Great video, but def makes me miss my old masseur. There are no massage locations in my current town. Im not a badass or anything, I just think maybe I understand going in, that I will feel relief afterward so Im able to refocus??? Curious to know if anyone else also enjoys these massages?
